Chapter 25

Bean caught sleep on the flight and woke to find they were only fifteen minutes from touchdown. They were headed to Spain. The guy they’d arrested had booked a flight to Madrid. From that information, they found the man’s contact.

Hopefully, this was the end of the line, and they wouldn’t find yet another person or group behind them. They needed to cut off the funding and shut the person or group down.

They were dressed in civilian clothes and were trying to look as normal as possible. They would split up, traveling to the location in groups of two or three, convening once they arrived.

Chase addressed them minutes before landing. “This guy is probably armed. We don’t know how many people will be at his house. It’s large, with six bedrooms, and there is a wall around the property. We can’t draw attention to our activity. So everything has to go down quietly.”

“Got it,” Keel said.

Chase raised his eyebrows. “I’m not worried about you.” Chase turned to Stanley. “Take it down a notch.”

Stanley rolled his eyes. “Just because that one thing.”

They all chuckled. Stanley could be dramatic, but he worked hard. The guy would be solid on this mission.

Bean checked his bag and his pockets. He was going with Mick, taking public transportation.

The plane landed and pulled over to the private plane terminal. If they had more time, they would have flown commercial, but they needed to find this guy before the man they’d arrested in the USA informed his contacts that they were onto him.

Luckily, they landed two hours before the guy they’d arrested was supposed to get in. He’d been set for a plane change in Amsterdam, so they were able to catch up. Somehow it was all working out.

He and Keel took off, catching a bus first, then transferring to a tram. No one acted odd, and no one clocked them as military. They were about five minutes out from their final stop when Chase texted him.

We’ve arrived. Two guards are at the front of the house, and Stanley is going to the back. Will inform when I have more info.

“Looks like we’ll be informed before we get there,” Keel said.

He nodded. “That’s good.”

“You sure about Garnet?”

“Absolutely, she’s good. No way is she involved in this.”

“No, I meant relationship-wise. You good with getting into a relationship with her?”

A smile spread over her face. “Oh, yeah, I’m sure.”

“Good. I hope she’s a good one.”

“She is.” He hadn’t known her long, but he knew she was perfect for him. “She’s solid like Ansley, smart, too. I’m lucky to have found her.”

“Gotta say I didn’t trust Ansley at first, I guess it’s my nature.”

“We’ve learned not to trust people. It’s understandable.”

Keel chuckled, then pointed to the display screen. “Looks like this is our stop. Then it’s a three-minute walk.”

“Let’s roll.” He pushed thoughts of Garnet from his mind and focused on their task. They had to get this guy without causing a scene. If it all ran smoothly, they’d end up with the guy in their custody and not in Spanish police custody.

Bean stepped out to the street, his head on a swivel as he studied the area. No one followed them off the train. He checked again when they were half a block down the street. They were in the clear.

He and Keel were headed into the back of the property. They turned and were on the road behind the house in less than a minute. The area was still clear. Everything seemed to be running in their favor.

The wall at the back of the property was seven feet high and smooth. He guessed normal people would have a hard time scaling it, but he and Keel were over the wall in seconds.

They moved fast and silently to the back of the house. They had their earpieces in and could hear each other now. Stanley and Chase had taken care of the two guards and were about to enter the front, and Mick, Scott, and Link were at the side door, having encountered no resistance.

Keel used a pick to open the back door. “We’re in,” he whispered.

“We’re in,” Stanley said over coms.

“In,” Scott whispered.

No alarm sounded, and Bean wondered if this was a setup. Did the guy know they were onto him? Stanley and Scott stayed downstairs, Mick was deleting the security video footage, and the rest of them headed up.

Bean moved down the hall, stopping at the one room with the closed door. Link was right behind him.

“Ready?” Bean asked.

Link tapped his back, indicating that he was ready to go. Bean turned the handle and stepped into the room. He took in the area fast. The man on the bed moved to grab something off the nightstand.

It only took Bean a second to make out the gun. He rushed the man, hitting his arm seconds after he picked up the gun. The guy cried out and dropped the weapon.

Bean punched the guy, trying to keep him down. A struggle ensued, along with bucking hips, trying to throw Bean off. It took a moment, but Bean had one of the guy’s arms pinned, but the guy was still struggling hard.

He glanced over to Link, about to ask for help, when he saw his buddy was struggling with another guy. Bean threw another punch, before turning the man over, and getting control. He pulled out the zip cuffs and applied them before turning to Link.

Bean came to a full stop when he saw that the guy Link was fighting with had a grenade in his hand.

The dude was trying to pull the pin. That would ruin everything if a grenade went off in the house.

An explosion would alert the cops to their presence.

Also, it could possibly kill them and the guys they were trying to capture.

Bean closed the distance and pinned the guy’s hand that had the grenade against the wall.

The man let go of the grenade, and it dropped and rolled under the dresser before he could catch it.

Bean dove for the grenade, thinking he could toss it out the window before it blew.

Things were about to get a whole hell of a lot more exciting.
