Chapter 26

Bean put his hand on the grenade, thinking he was being an idiot, when he noticed that the pin hadn’t been pulled. Maybe he’d seen that the pin was still in place, and that was why he dove for it.

He hadn’t even thought about it. He’d just wanted to save his friends.

“Got it.” Bean’s voice shook as he spoke. “We’re safe.”

Link punched the man hard, knocking him out. “This fucker here was about to kill us all.”

“We need to check all the rooms. They tried to explode a grenade,” Bean said.

“Shit,” Chase said over coms.

After getting the two men under control, Bean began checking the upstairs. Stanley joined him. They made quick work of the rooms and the attic. There wasn’t anyone else in the house with them.

Chase and Scott had placed the two guards in the closet to get them out of the way. He and Link were bringing down the two men they’d captured.

This wasn’t as messy as it could have been, but it wasn’t very clean, either. They could have easily died. This type of mission kept his blood flowing. He wouldn’t say he loved missions like this, but they kept his life exciting.

Chase stood in the center of the entryway, looking at the men they’d captured. “We have four. We need to check their vehicles and see if we have room to transport them.”

“I’ll look in the garage,” Keel said.

Bean was glad they had captured these guys. Now they had to find all the information about these men and what they were doing.

“I’ll search for computers,” Bean said.

Mick nodded. “I’ll go with you and search for files.”

“Grab anything you think we need,” Chase called after them.

Bean waved his hand above his head. “Got it.”

There were four computers in the office, and he grabbed all of them, knowing someone could sort through them, eventually.

He searched the desk for passwords and found an index card in one of the drawers that had random words splashed on both sides of the card.

Mick had two boxes of paperwork. It seemed like they were ready to go.

“We cleaned the office out,” Mick said.

Bean nodded. “I think so.”

Scott spoke over coms. “I found a laptop upstairs. I’m bringing it.”

Now they had five computers, a few phones, and two boxes of computers. They would find whatever they needed in this.

Keel found a van and a sedan in the garage.

They split the people and stuff between the vehicles, and they took off to the airport.

They were allowed to drive onto the tarmac and load the plane.

The four prisoners were strapped to the seats, and no one asked them any questions.

They were headed to Stuttgart with the computers and the captives.

The flight took about four hours, and when they landed, they handed the four people off to a group of Deltas who were in the country while they took a moment to grab food and freshen up before they started interrogating them.

Bean showered and ate some food, but then he was ready to go at it with the computers.

He used the words on the index card as passwords, finding success at the third word he entered.

In the computer, he found the full-length videos of Garnet’s three speeches.

The man in the States had filmed all three of her sessions.

They needed to do better security at those conferences.

Someone must have had some type of smart glasses that had been snuck into the session that allowed them to film all the content.

He started writing notes about what he’d found. Mick came into the room where he was working and looked over his shoulder.

“That’s Garnet, right?”

“Yes. Her three sessions were recorded. They were on this computer. It’s the only one I’ve cracked open. The password was on the index card.”

Mick shook his head. “Seriously, people are so freaking lazy and stupid about their passwords. You can’t put passwords on papers in your own desk.”

“Yeah, he probably didn’t expect anyone to break in and take his computers. He did have security guards.”

“Those guards are going to be pissed.”

Bean nodded. “Yeah. They’ll never know we’re military, though.”

“I’m going to take this computer and work on it,” Mick said.

He nodded. “Cool. Sounds good.”

In twenty minutes, the guys were in the room with him, and the security on all the computers had been beaten.

They’d found bank accounts, addresses, and a list of people involved.

At least there were only five people involved, and they had three people in custody.

The other two people would be easy to pick up.

Based on the information on the computers, the guards had no clue what was going on.

They’d have to get confirmation in the interrogation, but he figured the guards would give up everything they knew fast and not fight them.

The other two men wouldn’t be cooperative. They’d try to hide the truth for as long as possible because they were in loads of trouble.

The guy back in the States probably wouldn’t tell the truth, either. He just needed to make sure there wasn’t someone else out there waiting to take Garnet and try to force her to do something she wouldn’t ever do.

They took a moment and watched Garnet’s presentation to figure out what these guys had built their belief on. She swore she’d never said anything about the truth, but something had made these men think it was possible. He and his team needed to know what they were up against.
