Chapter 46 Graham

GRAHAM

It’s been a week, a fucking week, and we have had zero leads. I have hunted down every single family member that might know anything about this asshole. No one knows a damn thing. It’s always the same thing.

“We haven’t talked to Nick since Nyx left.”

We break fingers, rip out teeth, and torture this asshole’s “friends” to the brink of death on more than one occasion.

We never get the information we need. The good thing is Demitri has taken some aggression out on a couple of the dick’s friends, but still fucking nothing.

He hasn’t been spotted around Detroit or the surrounding areas.

And I can’t find a cabin or anything in his name.

His family has a lake house up in the Tawas area, but it’s right on the main road and no one has been there since the weekend after Labor Day.

I can’t even find Julia and that bastard kid she had for him.

I’m not sure if he sent them off to another country or what.

But her family is looking for them, and they also haven’t seen Nick.

Captain Montgomery and the missing persons team cannot even find any leads.

I’m going absolutely stir-crazy. I need my Little Witch back in my arms. I am putting a damn tracker in that woman the minute she is back in my hands.

We have already replaced the punching bags in the gym more than once. Our guys are no longer willing to spar with us because they usually don’t walk away without injuries. David has a broken nose. He’s not mad at me, but still I don’t need to injure my men.

I hear the security unlock in my door before it flies open and crashes into the wall. Dee walks in, fury written all over his face. Well, it’s better than the shutdown and emotionless sack of a human he’s been the last couple of days.

We all have been pretty emotionless since visiting Mike. His attitude toward the woman he supposedly loves just shocked the hell out of us. We knew he was an abusive ass but damn, to see it in real life broke our hearts. Kyra is a sister to us now, and no one deserves to be talked about like that.

“Hey asshole, find anything?” If he could kill me with the look, he’s giving me, I’d be dead. I know he’s blaming me for not finding her yet.

“Nothing yet, nothing has seen him in the area. No traffic cams, no friends, or family.” To know she is in the hands of that psychopath is breaking my soul.

“How does he just ghost out? Someone has got to be helping him, but who?”

He flops onto my bed, fingers racking through the floppy hair on the top of his head.

He needed a haircut before she was taken, and in the week it’s only gotten longer.

He scoops Midnight into his arms to snuggle the one piece of Nyx we have left.

I’ll admit I’ve snuggled that cat wishing it was my Little Witch more than once since she’s been gone.

“That is what I am trying to figure out. I am going to see if I can hack into the MDOT cameras. I lost the car once they got on the highway, but MDOT should have something. It is the only lead I have left. I’m also going to try, and see if I can find some obscure family. They are the only options I have left.”

“Make it quick, Hutch. I am losing my mind. I don’t know how long I can survive without her. I lost Stasi, I can’t live with myself if I lost Nyx.” His voice is shaking, I’m almost positive he is crying, but I am not going to bring attention to it.

I pick my coffee cup up and realize it’s empty. Fuck. I set up my system to start the process of hacking into MDOT before I start my next cup of coffee. Sleep is for when she is back in my arms, or I’m dead. Either at this point would be acceptable.

I glance over at Dee, lying in my bed. His breathing has evened out, and a soft snore is coming from his throat. He is not okay right now. I know he’s probably blown through most of our ammo, he’s always in the gym. I couldn’t tell you the last time he’s gotten more than a twenty-minute power nap.

The system dings with an alert, letting me know I am in. I take a quick second to drape a blanket over Dee and then silence all of our phones before I hook my headphones up to my computer. He needs to sleep, and I don’t want to disturb him.

It takes three hours to follow the car north. The dumbass stays on 75 for as long as he can before he gets off near Standish. Classic, he’s got to have someone with a cabin up in these woods. At least we have a lead.

“Ugh, how long have I been out?” Dee sits up off my bed, rubbing at his eyes. His hair all mussed. If Nyx was here, she would totally appreciate his sleepy hotness. I sneak a quick photo to show her when we have her back.

“Roughly about three hours-.”

“What! You let me sleep for three fucking hours, Hutch. What the actual fuck?!”

“Dee chill, nothing has happened. I legit just found him getting off seventy-five in Standish. Like just a second before you woke up. You needed sleep. I don’t know the last time you slept more than maybe twenty minutes at a time.”

“Fine, what’s the plan?”

“Well, we need to try, and see where this Standish exit leads us. I’ll try running facial recognition for the three of them in all the major ‘Up North’ towns.”

“Find them, Hutch!” He storms out of the room. I know he’s heading to the gun safe to start preparing to head north. That asshole will search on foot if it comes to it.

Those three words rattle around in my head for hours while I set everything up to scan for any of their faces.

I know he won’t survive losing her, not after Stasi.

I don’t think I’ll survive losing her and Dee.

My door unlocks for the second time today.

Goddamn these assholes can’t let me work in peace.

In walks Callum, his scruff pretty much a beard from his normal clean shaven look. His hair is a mess, like he’s been tossing and turning in bed. Glancing at the clock on my monitor tells me it’s three in the morning. Fuck, when was the last time I slept?

“Dee said you had a lead?” Callum looks at me with hope in his eyes. Does he care for the girls more than I thought?

“We have a location. He got off seventy-five in Standish.” I watch his face drop. Dee’s excitement of a direction at least must have made him think we found him.

“That’s it? You know how much land is up there? Woods, state land, fucking two-track trails with off-grid cabins? FUCK!” His frustration oozes off him.

“Callum, what is going on? Why are you falling apart bro?” I leave my computer to run the programs, and I walk over to him.

He’s squatted down in front of my closed bedroom door, head in his hands, his body vibrating with rage and terror.

There is definitely something more than just his care for his future sister-in-law.

Yes, she will be his sister-in-law. Dee and I have already been talking to a jeweler about creating two rings that nest together.

“It’s Kyra. I don’t know what it is about her, but I know I want her in my life. I want to claim her, love her, take care of her, make her mine.”

“Aww, baby bro. Do you finally have feelings?” I try to lighten both our moods with a touch of brotherly teasing.

“Yes, dick. I didn’t realize how much I liked her around until she got kidnapped.” I am pretty sure he’s been obsessed since the Halloween bonfire, but I’ll leave him in his delusions.

“We will find them, and I will help you win her. You know she’s got a fiancée, right?”

“Ya, Nyx said he’s an asshole and is abusive, so we gotta convince her to leave him.”

“You have our help, and I’m sure Nyx would love to help.”

He stands up, and he's got a little more of a smile on his face. Cal walks over to where Midnight is still snuggled on my bed. And gives him a few scratches on his head before leaving. Midnight hasn’t really left my room since we brought him here. I’m pretty sure he’s just as sad as we are.

“Okay, Graham Hutchinson. Sit your ass down and find our women. You are the only one who can find them.” I give myself a little pep talk, brew some more coffee and get to work.
