Chapter 45 Demitri

DEMITRI

The drive to the station goes by quickly.

I watch Bill run in, and it takes him roughly ten minutes to drop the notes off to the lab for any information.

Now we are following behind his cop car to the little trailer park that Kyra lives in with Mike, her idiot fiancée.

I’ve never met the guy, but the stories I have heard aren’t winning him any awards.

“Didn’t Nyx pick up Kyra the day they disappeared?” Graham questions.

“I thought so. I didn’t see Kyra’s Jeep downtown that day.” We had Nyx’s car towed back to the house after we discovered their phones on the ground at the river walk on that day from hell.

“Weird, okay. Let’s get this over with.” I turn around to face Cal.

“You are not going to like this guy, but you have to keep your cool. Once we get the girls back, we can do whatever we can to keep him away from her, but for now, and until she makes the choice, you have to let him keep breathing.” Giving him a small lecture.

He takes a deep breath, centering himself, and nods his head.

“Alright, let’s go meet the dick.” He swings his door open and climbs out of the backseat of my truck.

Bill opens his door and gets out of the car just ahead of us.

He nods his head and walks up the porch to the door.

We follow suit like three towering security guards behind him.

Bill isn’t small by any means. He definitely hits around six foot but we still tower over him.

I look over and the Hutchinson brothers have their arms crossed over their chests, with the biggest asshole looks on their faces.

I slap Graham upside his head. “Knock that shit off. He’s going to be on the defensive with that look on both y'all's faces.” They both instantly drop their arms and try to fix their resting dick faces.

I can feel the boards underneath my feet give way under all of our weight, and I just hope we don’t fall through.

“If she stays here, I am fixing this damn deck.” Cal leans over his brother and whispers to me. I give him a single nod of my head before the door opens with a groan.

“What the fuck do you want?” Mike spits out before he realizes Bill is in uniform. “You find my bitch dead somewhere? She’s been gone for a few days, though. Someone finally got rid of her annoying ass.”

My stomach drops out of my ass, and I reach behind Graham to grab hold of Cal’s hoodie. The rage is glowing in his eyes. I give him a subtle shake of my head and mimic a deep breath. I watch him breathe and relax just a smidge, but he’s ready to punch this ass.

“Are you Michael Ashman?” Bill is trying to keep himself professional. Still trying to play the good police captain he is.

“Who’s askin‘?” There is definitely an odor emanating from the man in front of us. Standing there in a holey white tank top, and his sweatpants appearing to be stretched to the limit around his beer gut.

“My name is Captain Bill Montgomery, from the Detroit City Police Department. These guys,” he steps to the side to point to the three of us. “Are Demitri Meadows, Graham and Callum Hutchinson. They run Devil Dog Security. We are here to inquire about Kyra Stevens. She is your fiancée, correct?”

“I suppose she is my fiancée, but I haven't seen the broad in a few days though so I’m not sure what is going on with us.” Fuck this man is a work of art. My rage is simmering at the surface. How does anyone talk about that ray of sunshine like that?

I can see Cal, he is vibrating with rage. He keeps balling his fists at his side. His jaw is locked down so hard I can hear his teeth grinding together. Even Graham is fidgeting with anger. He is the cool, calm, and collected of the three of us. So, if he is pissed, it’s a big fucking deal.

“So what can I do for you?” Mike spits out with a sneer. “I’m not letting you in my house without a warrant.”

“Mr. Ashman, we aren’t here to search your house. We wanted to let you know Kyra has been reported as missing with Miss Bennett. Are you familiar with Nyx Bennett?”

“Unfortunately, that whore has probably taken Kyra to convince her to leave me.” His response has my vision going dark. I feel like I am watching from another body as I take the few steps toward Mike and my fist flies through the air, and connects with his nose.

“Mr. Meadows!” Bill yells. Fuck, what the hell just happened? I look at the ground and Mike is laying there, out cold.

“I am sorry, sir. I don’t know what came over me.” I can barely get out.

“You’re fine, Demitri. You did what every single one of us wanted to do. We will just make it known that nothing happened here.”

“Ugh, what the hell happened?” Mike groans from the doorway as he pulls himself up using the door frame.

“The stress of your missing fiancée caused you to pass out, Mr. Ashman, and you fell right on your face. It’s ok, we will let you go, and process everything.

” Bill says with a smirk. “We will be in touch. I’ll be sending a detective over to question you in a bit, in hopes to find the girls. Thank you for your time.”

Bill turns and walks down the rickety stairs, and his three angry shadows follow down to our cars. He looks back at the door Mike was standing in and makes sure the door is closed.

“Alright, boys,” his voice is low. “Well, that was awful. Do you guys want to head to the station and meet with a detective to have another set of legal eyes on this?”

“I guess more bodies couldn’t hurt.” I respond as I shake out my fist.

“Let’s head down and I’ll get my best detective on the case.” Murmurs of agreement come out from all of us, and we climb in the truck.
