Chapter 57 Demitri
DEMITRI
It’s been a little over a week since we rescued the girls.
Bill stopped by the day after we got back, just to do a quick check-in on Nyx.
He told her he didn’t want to see her back at the station until after the new year.
He needed time to find her a new partner, since Jack has been MIA since just before she was taken.
We have informed Bill, off the record, that Jack was related to Nick.
Also that he was involved in the girl’s kidnapping and has been taken care of.
To the rest of the world, he is missing, and the station is on the lookout for him.
The girls have spent a lot of time in the last week, curled up on the couch together watching rom-com movies.
Callum has been at their beck and call. I know he’s doing it more for Kyra’s benefit, but Graham and myself have been busy trying to get the business back in order.
Everything fell apart while Nyx was gone.
There was nothing being completed outside of surviving and finding all the information we could.
We have been in non-stop meetings with clients and businesses whose contracts have been pushed aside, trying to kiss ass and appease them. Cal is going to be joining the team once we feel safe enough to leave the girls alone. Right now his job is to bring a level of comfort for us and them alike.
Now that everything feels back to normal, or at least as normal as it can, today is Thanksgiving.
The entire gang is coming over today for dinner.
David, Jason, and Alyra are coming from Devil Dogs.
Usually, Bill and Cathy have Nyx over for the holiday’s but they understand that Nyx does not feel comfortable leaving the safety bubble we have built here for her.
The only people coming are the people closest to us.
Graham’s family will probably stop by for a little bit.
And, well, my family hasn’t talked to me much in years.
They blame me for not coming home as soon as they found Stasi’s body.
As if picking up and leaving a deployment is as easy as coming home from vacation early.
After going through my to-do list for this morning in my head, I roll over and wrap my arms around Nyx.
Nuzzling my face into the space between her neck and shoulder, inhaling her scent.
She sleepily snuggles back against me. Her head is currently resting on Graham’s chest, but I wrap my arm around her waist and drag her over to me.
“Good morning, Sweet Girl.” I whisper in her ear.
“I don’t know how sweet I am, Dee.” She smirks while rolling over to run her hand down my chest. “Do you want me to show you how bad I can be?”
I will say this about Nyx, after she returns, she is definitely not hiding herself from us. She is not the shy girl that she was before she was taken. I have to hope that she realizes how lucky she was to have us on her side and is not denying her attraction anymore.
“Little Fox, I have to go downstairs and get things going for dinner.”
She lets out the cutest huff before rolling back over to try and snuggle into Graham again. Before she can make it across the giant bed, I grab her and bring her back to me. Peppering her neck with kisses and nips, she squirms and giggles. I know my beard is tickling her neck.
She pulls away from my grasp and stares directly into my soul before her lips crash into mine.
She was very concerned about being able to handle our touches after everything.
I have not noticed her hesitating at all, and she is always initiating touches and kissing.
She rolls me over onto my back to climb on top, taking over the kiss.
“Well, good morning, you two.” Graham groans out and Nyx grinds down on my lap.
Fuck me. I need to get up before this turns into the whole morning.
Who the fuck am I right now? I have never been the type to turn down sex to go cook a huge family meal.
I pull Nyx off my lap, sitting her down on the bed between Graham and I.
Nyx lets out a huff knowing that I am not giving in to her advances right now.
“I am going to go make some breakfast.” I quickly climb out of bed and grab my t-shirt before leaving the bedroom while arranging my dick in my shorts.
This girl will be the death of my productivity.
On my way down the stairs, I hear her let out a loud porn-like moan, just trying to tease me.
I roll my eyes and head for the kitchen.
I can hear laughter coming from the dining room.
We have never used this room, but with the huge group of us, Nyx decided it was the best time to use the dining room.
I am in the kitchen finishing up the last few touches on dinner.
Nyx is playing the perfect host, helping me to haul things out to the table and making sure that our guests have everything they could need.
Walking to the table with a platter full of turkey in my hands, I join all my friends in the dining room.
They are full of chatter about anything and everything.
Multiple conversations being had throughout the room.
David, Jason, and Cal are talking about the Lion’s game from this afternoon.
Aly, Nyx, and Kyra have become the cutest little trio since their rescue.
It sounds like they are talking about the latest trashy reality TV show they are all watching together.
Bill and Cathy are just sitting back watching everything happening.
His face today is nothing like the hard police captain's face we normally deal with.
“Dinner is served.” I talk just loud enough to be heard over all the voices.
Everyone settles in and starts filling their plates.
Dinner has all the fixings. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and we cannot forget the sweet potatoes.
Bottles of wine line the table in various levels of emptiness.
Everyone starts to dig in and passes dishes to one another.
Now that everyone has plates full of food, Nyx stands up before digging into her plate herself.
“Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I just want to take a moment to thank every single person at this table for everything they have done for me. Not only did most of you sitting here help rescue Kyra and myself, but you have also supported me in many more ways than one. I cannot wait to be able to celebrate more holidays with you guys.” She finishes her little speech before sitting down and taking the biggest bite of food.
Nyx washes it down with a large swallow of wine with a soft smile on her face.
Resting my hand on her leg, I give it a little squeeze.
Just letting her know that I am always there to support her and love her.
Leaning over and brushing her long dark locks away from her ear to have a clear shot to whisper to her.
“I love you, Little Fox.” A blush lines her cheeks before she gives me her heart-stopping smile.
Nothing but pure joy radiating off of her.
We all eat in comfortable quietness. Small conversations pop up randomly between mouthfuls of food. I do have to say I did a pretty damn good job at this meal. I am lost in my own thoughts about ways to keep Nyx safe in the future when Bill speaks up.
“I am so thankful to have you home, Nyx. While we know this threat has been resolved,” His eyes glance between Graham and I and we give a slight nod of our heads. “But what will we do to safeguard against losing you again for two weeks?”
“Bill, what do you mean? Are we expecting more people to appear out of thin air to snatch me and Kyra up again?” She has a confused look on her face.
“Little Witch-,” Graham tries to speak up, but she cuts him off.
“No, I will not live in constant fear of another freak trying to rip me off the street. Nope, not happening. I will wait to go back to work like you all suggested, but I will go back to living my life as soon as possible.” Her voice says at this moment there is no room for negotiations, or even further talks.
“Fine.” Bill spits out with a touch of anger lacing his words. “Can we at least have the guys install a tracker under your flesh to satisfy our own fears?” He is trying so hard to keep his calm and to acknowledge that she wants her freedom, but we also need a little peace of mind.
“I am open to that idea, as long as it is only used for safety purposes. If I find out any of you,” her eyes turn to look at Graham.
“And I mean any of you are using it to follow me around just for fun, I will take a knife and cut it out of my own damn flesh. Do you understand me?” This was not the time I thought this conversation was going to be had, but at least Bill took the brunt of her anger and she cannot get mad at us for it.
Even though we definitely thought about it.
Everyone finishes dinner with quiet conversations amongst themselves, and I just absorb every moment I can with the family I have built with my best friend.
I know that Nyx is happy with us and loves us, but I am starting to wonder how everything with the three of us will work long term.
The doorbell rings, and Graham jumps up from the table to go answer the door with a huge smile on his face. I hear his mom’s voice first.
“Where are my other two sons?” Her voice is full of happiness at seeing her oldest.
“Two sons? What do you mean by two?” Callum calls out before rising from the table himself.
She laughs as she walks into the dining room and looks around.
Her smile always brings such warmth to any room she is in.
Graham and Callum definitely get their looks from their mom, all golden hair and tan skin.
I am of absolutely no relation, but their dad looks like he could be more related to me than the beach bum appearances of the other three.
“There’s my other boy.” She walks over to me, and I stand to give her a hug. She knows my relationship with my family is strained at best, and she always treats me just like another son. “You look so happy. You all do. What is going on?”
“Mom, I want you to meet Nyx.” Graham spits out before snatching Nyx up from her seat to place her by his family. She has a mouth full of sweet potatoes, and she just laughs before swallowing quickly.
“Hello, Mrs. Hutchinson.” She sticks her hand out while still trying to finish her bit of food.
“Oh, don’t be silly, dear.” Before Nyx knows what hits her, she is wrapped up in Graham’s mom’s arms. “I am Amanda, or you can also call me Mom. Demitri usually does.”
“Amanda, it is.” Nyx giggles, and my heart flutters in my chest. That is a sound I could definitely get used to.
“This is my husband Ben.” Amanda takes a step back and makes room for Nyx to greet Graham’s dad.
“It is so nice to meet the woman who has stolen these stubborn boys' hearts.” He also wrapped her up in a hug and then continued the introductions for everyone else in the room.
We all settled into the living room for coffee and a delicious apple pie that Amanda had brought over. I could get used to calling all these people my family.
