Chapter 18 The Apology I Refused
By evening, Mu Jinci came straight to my apartment.
“What do you want?”
“Let’s talk.”
“I have nothing to say to you.” I tossed the trash bag into the bin and started walking away.
“Su Yueming!” Mu Jinci grabbed my sleeve. “Is it worth dragging this out over something so small? I know you’re upset that I’ve been close with Chen Yi. I’m sorry, okay?”
“Sorry?” The words exploded out of me. “We were married five years. You humiliated me for five years. Even during the divorce you acted like you had the upper hand. And now you show up with an apology?”
All the resentment I’d buried poured out. Mu Jinci froze, eyes wide.
After a long silence, she whispered, “Su Yueming… you don’t love me anymore?”
“I stopped loving you a long time ago.”
“No…” She shook her head. “That’s not true. You do love me.”
“I’ll say it one more time. I don’t love you. I don’t want you. Got it? If you understand, leave. I’m busy.”
I brushed past her. She caught my hand.
Her fingers trembled against mine.
I told myself it was nothing. I couldn’t imagine someone like Mu Jinci was shaking because of me.
“Can’t we… start over?”
I smiled coldly. “Did asking that make you feel guilty at all?”
She had no answer.
“I thought you’d never leave me.”
“Yeah. You were pretty confident.”
I walked away without looking back.
