Chapter 3 Taking Mianmian
When I had packed everything and was ready to leave, Mianmian suddenly hopped out.
It was a pet rabbit Zhou Yang had given me.
Every time I was sad or hurt, it stayed by my side. It was the family that comforted me.
It had always been quiet and gentle, staying obediently in its cage, never crying or making a fuss.
Just like I used to be.
Maybe it sensed I was leaving. It crouched on my feet, a small fluffy ball, its lips nipping at my toes.
In this house, it seemed only Mianmian still wanted me to stay.
I picked it up anyway.
Zhou Yang happened to come out of the bathroom, toweling his wet hair. Water slid down his chest to his abs.
The man in front of me still looked cold and distant, his face closed off.
It was that untouchable look of his that had once hooked me for a lifetime.
From then on, he alone filled my heart.
"I'm taking Mianmian with me. Do you have a problem with that?"
He said nothing. He glanced at the suitcase by my hand, sat on the sofa, and lit a cigarette.
"Suit yourself."
At the door, he asked me again.
"Are you still going to Ruoyu's birthday party?"
Ruoyu's birthday was also my birthday.
But he never remembered. Neither did my mother.
In their worlds, they each had people they devoted themselves to protecting.
And I was just a disposable passerby in their eyes, not worth a second look.
"Isn't it better if I don't go? After all, you and Ruoyu are the Match Made In Heaven the media writes about—the perfect pair.
"And I'm just an ordinary, jealous shrew who can only throw useless tantrums. The eyesore standing in the way of your 'happy ending'!"
He still said nothing, just kept blowing smoke rings.
Only when his eyes caught the Divorce Agreement on the coffee table did he freeze for a barely noticeable second.
Until I walked out the front door, he never said another word.
