Chapter 5 Dropping the Best Man
That night, I leaned against Gu Chaonan watching a horror movie.
The plot was too boring. Neither of us was really into it.
I wasn't sure if I should tell him now.
Gu Chaonan suddenly spoke.
"Better not let Xie Yiheng be our best man."
I inexplicably felt relieved.
I asked him, "Why?"
Gu Chaonan nuzzled my neck with his nose.
"He's injured. It's inconvenient. The omen isn't great either. It might jinx our perfect love."
I looked at him in surprise. "You're that superstitious?"
He neither confirmed nor denied.
"Intuition."
"And the way he looks at you is a little off. I hope I'm overthinking it. Otherwise this friendship is done."
I blankly pulled my gaze away.
As expected, better to wait until after the Wedding.
Gu Chaonan lived abroad long-term.
Coming back this once, of course there would be dinners with friends.
I didn't want to see Xie Yiheng and their mutual friends.
I basically never went.
Actually, barely anyone knew about our marriage back then.
Neither of us liked crowds. We went straight on a honeymoon—basically a travel Wedding.
We never showed our faces on social media. It was almost like a secret marriage.
After turning him down too many times, Gu Chaonan clung to me pitifully.
"Wife, just come with me once. Otherwise I'm so pathetic."
I raised a brow. "Not afraid of me running into Xie Yiheng?"
"I didn't invite him. These are my high school friends. They don't know him."
I couldn't stand that puppy look and agreed anyway.
In the private room, they were all strangers.
I relaxed.
I listened to them tell a lot of embarrassing stories about Gu Chaonan.
The atmosphere was warm and cheerful.
Until Xie Yiheng pushed the door open.
Shen Leyue followed behind him, as if she hadn't managed to stop him.
