Chapter 17 Blood in the Water

After the words left my mouth, the thought only settled harder in me.

Through countless sleepless nights, I turned it over again and again in my head.

Why had Wen Yu suddenly transferred to our school?

Why had her family never shown up even once?

Why had she forced herself closer to me when she clearly did not like me?

Yes.

I had seen what Wen Yu looked like when she loved me.

So I knew it clearly.

At the start, she had not liked me.

Her approach had felt more like she was finishing some kind of task.

I had seen her face full of resistance after being rejected.

I had also seen her flushed and shouting from the edge of the court.

She smiled at me, yet her eyes were full of despair.

Back then I had not understood.

Curiosity was where the fall began.

I never expected I would truly fall for her.

When did she start being truly happy?

It was when I said, "Just be yourself. I like that a lot."

What I liked was the real her.

That day Wen Yu held me and cried for a long time.

She kept repeating thank you over and over.

As if I had saved her life.

My eyelid twitched.

Whenever I tried to think back on Wen Yu's background and where she came from, a fog filled my mind and sent me off course.

Instinct told me there was only one way to prove the guess.

I lay down in a bathtub filled with water.

The sharp blade caught the reflection of my eyes, shot through with red veins.

Right then, excitement made them look almost bright.

I cut open my wrist without hesitation.

A wide wash of bright red spread through the water.

In the moment I hovered near death, a nearly inaudible sigh rose in my mind.

If only I had known sooner, why go through any of it in the first place?
