Chapter 18 Taken Before the Wedding
The day before the Wedding, I went to the salon I had booked long ago for a manicure and SPA.
Gu Chaonan had originally meant to come with me.
Something came up at the last minute that he had to handle.
When I stepped into the elevator, an uneasy feeling rose in my chest for no reason.
I was about to call and tell him to be careful.
Ding. The floor arrived.
I looked up, and my pupils shrank.
A cloth with a sharp, irritating smell was pressed over my mouth and nose.
Everything went black. I lost consciousness.
When I woke with a splitting headache, a strange ceiling filled my vision.
Then came the sound of the door opening.
I let out a silent sigh.
"Awake?"
"Hungry? I'll make you your favorite Omurice."
That familiar, gentle voice.
For a moment I almost drifted.
The clink of chains snapped me back.
I looked down at my ankle.
Cotton was wrapped on the inside, as if he was afraid of hurting me.
I tugged at the corner of my mouth in a cold sneer.
"Xie Yiheng, people's likes change. I stopped liking Omurice a long time ago."
He had grown terribly thin.
Those eyes that always held a soft spring-water smile were empty now.
Xie Yiheng stiffened for only a second, then curved his lips.
"It doesn't matter. Whatever you want to eat, I'll make it for you."
Exhaustion washed over me.
We had parted on good terms. Why did it have to come to this?
"What exactly do you want?"
Xie Yiheng's voice was very light.
"I'm only taking back what belongs to me."
I frowned. Something about his state felt deeply wrong.
"How long do you think you can keep me locked up?"
"A bride goes missing for no reason. Won't they call the police? Xie Yiheng, it's not too late to turn back."
We stared at each other across the space.
Xie Yiheng suddenly let out a laugh.
"A Yu, everything in this world is fake. Only you are real."
"No one will find us."
He walked closer, dropped to one knee, and looked up at me.
His eyes brightened with a raw, hungry look.
"We'll love each other and stay together here for the rest of our lives."
My heart nearly stopped.
A long time passed before I found my voice again.
"What do you know?"
