Chapter 45
FORTY-FIVE
HARLEY
“Fuck off,” I mutter as something lands on my back. I tilt my head to the side and see one of those fuckers tossed a fucking pillow at me. “What do you want?” I ask, not knowing who it is but not caring enough to check.
“You’re a miserable little fuck, and it’s pissing me off.”
I sigh. “What do you want from me, Cole?”
“I want you to stop being a mopey little bitch and bring the old Harley back. I’m sick of having to tell the girls you’re okay and don’t need an intervention.”
The girls, because we have those now.
Living with us, I mean. I don’t have a girl, not like Cole and Noah do. No, I royally fucked that up years ago, and now I’m dealing with the consequences.
Reaping what I sowed.
Being bitched by karma.
Whatever.
“I’m fine.”
“You’re not fine.”
I jump up from the sofa I’ve been lying on to glare at my best friend—who will be my ex-best friend if he keeps going—and snarl, “I said I’m fucking fine.”
He stares at me, silent and unmoving, before tilting his head in a single nod and then leaves the room.
Thank fuck.
It’s been three days since I’ve seen Savannah, since she left me lying there, naked and bleeding on the gym floor.
Well, I guess I wasn’t actually bleeding, but it sure as fuck felt like I was as I watched her run away from me, when she couldn’t even fucking look at me.
She despises me so much, she wouldn’t even turn my way before she fled the scene, leaving me to wonder what I did wrong again and how I’m going to fix it again.
I’ve come up with nothing because I realized that no matter how much I may want to fix things, that doesn’t mean she wants the same.
“I told you we should have done something sooner,” someone hisses, and I can’t help but groan.
Fuck, I should have known Cole wouldn’t just leave me alone. Only this is worse than just being interrogated by him because as I look over my shoulder, I see not only him, but the girls and Noah entering the room as well.
Fucking wonderful. Guess he didn’t plan on leaving me to wallow then.
Gracie comes and sits next to me, and I smile. “Hey, little sis,” I murmur, enjoying the smile that automatically lights up her face at my nickname.
“Hey, Harley,” she says and looks toward her boyfriend. Noah glances at me with a pointed look, and I just know what’s coming.
Goddammit.
“Harley…” Noah starts, and I sigh. “You gotta tell us what’s going on, because we’re worried, man. What the fuck happened?”
I really don’t want to get into it, but from the sound of his words, he’s completely clueless as to what’s been going on. I look toward Lana, since if anything, she’s probably the one who knows the most of all of them. Only, when my gaze meets hers, she subtly shakes her head.
Seriously?
None of them know?
Cole is standing next to Lana, looking at me with his head cocked as though he’s trying to figure out a complex equation. Obviously, he knows about me finding Savannah in the alley and what followed after that, but has he really not put the pieces together?
“He’s having girl problems,” Lana blurts, and I stare at her, a frown on my face.
“Oh, don’t look at me like that, it’s true. I swear, you’re both more clueless than I was when Cole and I started seeing each other. Why don’t you both just stop dancing around each other and actually talk?”
Now that’s a laugh, since she had no idea Cole was even into her, or that she was into him. It was like the blind leading the blind, and quite entertaining to watch.
“Maybe because she fucking hates me? Maybe she doesn’t want to speak to me? Maybe I’m giving her space, since it’s the least I can do, after everything?”
Lana scoffs. “Oh, please, that girl hates you as much as I hate Cole, and these days that isn’t a lot.” She turns and smirks at an affronted Cole before continuing. “You need to stop making assumptions and just talk to her.”
“I have no clue what’s happening right now, do you?” Gracie whispers loudly to Noah, and he shakes his head.
I close my eyes and rest my head against the back of the couch before pinching my nose between my fingers. “What’s happening is that Savannah and I have a past. A long, complicated past that I have no idea what to do with. I thought she didn’t want to speak to me, but Lana clearly doesn’t agree.”
I sit up and look around at everyone, taking in their varying expressions. “Any more questions, or will you leave me alone?”
Silence.
Complete and utter silence.
Good, maybe now they’ll finally leave me in peace so I can—
“You’re a fucking idiot, you know that?”
My head snaps to the side, and I find Logan standing in the doorway, a glower on his face. It’s not an uncommon expression for him, it’s just normally directed at everyone else and not any of us.
“I’m gonna be real honest with you, Harley.
You don’t deserve her, not in the slightest. That girl is so far out of your league, she may as well be on another goddamn planet, and yet here you are, moping around and feeling sorry for yourself when what you should be doing is going over there, getting on your knees and begging for her forgiveness after the shit you’ve put her through.
“I know you don’t know the entire story, but I promise, as soon as you do, you’re gonna realize I’m right.
Shit may be complicated, but it’s never gonna get uncomplicated if you don’t get off your ass and do something about it.
But I’m warning you now, if she ever cries because of you again, or ever looks unhappy because of something you did, then no matter how much history there is between the two of us, I won’t hesitate to make you regret it.
“Her dorm number is 12B. If you haven’t sorted this shit by the time I next see you, then we’ll be having a very different conversation.”
And then he walks out, leaving us all to stare after him in shock.
I… I…
“I think I need to go.”
