Chapter 51

FIFTY-ONE

SAVANNAH

I sit on the couch and stare at the wall for what feels like forever. Harley left after what I said, a look of utter defeat on his face, but I didn’t do a single thing to stop him or make him feel better.

I couldn’t.

Harley acted as though everything is done, like the last few years were completely erased, and we’d gone back to how things were before everything went to shit.

But there’s no way that’s possible.

There’s too much history between us for things to ever work out, yet Harley has done a complete one-eighty in the way he’s treating me.

And I have no freaking idea how to feel about that.

I hate myself for still wanting him after all this time, but I can’t let myself act on those feelings. I’ve seen firsthand what it’s like to be on his bad side, and the thought of having to deal with that again makes me sick.

I don’t trust him enough not to break me.

Sure, it was me who betrayed his confidence in the beginning, and if anyone was to have trust issues, it should be him.

But I can’t help the way I feel, and I can’t help but wonder if one day he’ll wake up and realize I could have done things a hell of a lot differently.

That I could have changed the outcome for all of us by speaking up sooner.

That I’m weak and it shouldn’t have taken until now for me to see the truth behind my father’s threats.

I’m sure he’ll figure out soon enough that we’re better off apart.

Harley and I aren’t meant for each other, we never were, and I hope one day he’ll see that.
