Chapter 58

FIFTY-EIGHT

HARLEY

Savannah is sleeping in the passenger seat as I pull up outside of her building, and I take a second to just breathe the moment in. Things have been crazy, and there’s a lot of shit I wished had happened differently, but this moment? This moment right now makes everything seem almost worth it.

I pull out my phone and send a text to Logan, telling him to meet me at Sav’s place. He responds right away with a thumbs-up emoji, and I heave a sigh.

I don’t know what he’s been working on, which is why I want him to meet us. We need to know what the fuck is going on and figure a way out of this for my girl.

I reach out and tuck a stray piece of her hair behind her ear, letting my fingers gently trail over her cheek. She’s so beautiful, and I’m a lucky son of a bitch

But I want more. I want all of her.

And that starts with sorting out the situation with her father.

Savannah is special. She’s always been someone I was drawn to, and whether it was under the pretenses of hating her or before that, when I was pestering her constantly, it doesn’t matter. I’ve always wanted her, and I still do.

I don’t think it’s going to stop any time soon.

I’m in too deep with her.

I see Logan’s car pull into the parking lot and gently tap Savannah on the shoulder. “Wake up, Sav.”

She blinks her eyes open and looks around blearily. “We’re back?”

I nod. “We’re back, and Logan’s here. I think it’s about time we learn what he’s been working on, huh?”

It seems to take her a moment to process my words, but when it does, she sits upright. “He’s here?”

I tilt my head towards the windscreen, where I can see the man in question getting out of his car.

Savannah undoes her seatbelt before flinging the door open and bolting from the car, hurrying toward Logan.

There’s no embrace today, she just grins in a carefree way I haven’t seen on her face for so long.

At least, not directed at me.

I’d be jealous if I wasn’t so happy about her finally allowing people close to her.

I follow after her, nodding to Logan as we head up to Savannah’s dorm. Things would be a hell of a lot easier if she would just stay with us, but once my girl’s mind is made up on something, there’s no changing it.

We reach her floor, and she unlocks the door before letting us inside. We’re all silent as we each take a seat, but when Savannah tentatively sits down next to me, I realize she’s gotta be uncomfortable as hell.

“I guess you wanna know what I’ve been working on, huh?” Logan asks Sav with a sigh, and she nods.

He takes a deep breath, as though bracing for something and it’s a weird sight. I’ve never seen him so unsure of himself, it’s fucking weird.

“Things with your father are far worse than I originally thought, and the deeper I looked, the more horrifying it got. He’s not only got friends in high places, but he has his hands in almost every horrible thing you can imagine. Drugs, guns, people—he’s involved in all of it.”

I watch as Savannah takes in this information, but she doesn’t look shocked. Disgusted? Yes. But not shocked.

“You already knew?” I ask her.

She slowly nods before leaning to the side, grabbing the folder my mom gave her from down the side of her seat.

“There are things in here which alluded to it, but I didn’t know for sure, and I don’t know all of the details.

He’s threatened to sell me before, but I thought it was just a threat, I didn’t realize it was an actual possibility…

” She trails off, and I have to clench my fists to avoid jumping up and punching something.

Christ, I really fucking hate the man she calls a father.

What sort of piece of shit not only gets involved in that type of thing but also threatens to sell his own daughter?

His own flesh and blood? It’s sickening.

Vile. Something I didn’t think actually happened in real life. Clearly, I was wrong.

So damn wrong.

“So, what do we do?” I ask Logan, trying to focus on what can be done about this shit instead of spiraling about all of the shit I can’t control.

He exhales slowly and leans forward in his seat.

“About the entire operation he’s a part of?

Not much right now. It’s too big to take care of in one step, and the entire thing is like a Hydra—cut off the head, and it grows right back.

The thing is, your dad isn’t the head, Sav.

He’s just one of many who contribute, which is why I’ve tried to hold off on doing anything with your father.

“I’ve been keeping an eye on all of his electronics, and there’s someone watching him day to day, but I didn’t think he would send someone after you the way he did.

I’m sorry you got hurt, but I think we know enough now to be able to deal with your father and take the whole thing down.

We just need a few weeks to finalize everything before we can move forward. ”

What the…

“Why do you sound like you’re in the Mafia or something?”

Logan snorts. “Or something,” he mutters under his breath and goes to stand. “It would be a lot safer for you to stay with us, but I know you won’t go for it, so I’ve upgraded your locks and put some security measures in place.”

He leaves, and I turn toward Savannah, who’s staring shellshocked at the seat Logan was just occupying.

“Hey, you okay?”

She slowly turns to face me and blinks a couple of times. “Did you understand any of that? What’s he planning on doing? And why did he keep saying we? And who does he have watching my father?”

I slide closer to her and tug her toward me, enveloping her with my arms. I press a kiss to her hair and murmur, “Honestly? I have no idea, and I don’t really think I want the answers.

I trust Logan to know what he’s doing, so I think we should let him do whatever he needs and hope that soon, everything will get better. ”

“I really hope so.”

Me too baby, me too.
