Chapter 6
One Year Later
“Are you sure about this, Mandy,” Jonathon asks.
“More sure than I’ve been about anything else ever,” I say with a smile.
He smiles and says, “I don’t mean getting married. I mean like this. You don’t want a big wedding?”
I shake my head and then lift myself up on my tiptoes to kiss him. I slip my hand down and close it over his crotch. I can feel him respond under his slacks. “I only care about a big wedding night,” I say with a giggle.
When I let go, he says, “What am I gonna do with you, Mandy?”
“Baby,” I say, “if you don’t know; I’m not going to have a big wedding night after all.” I burst out laughing at that. Maybe I’m nervous. Who knows? I feel giddy and happy, though, and that’s just fine with me.
“Oh,” he growls, “you better believe you’re going to have a big wedding night.” I feel a thrill but also a little burst of fear. Damn, I love that my man is scary. He leans over and says, “You might not be able to walk very well tomorrow, though.”
I can’t help but let a whimpering moan escape my mouth when he says that.
He offers me his arm, and I take it. We step through the door, and Elvis smiles at us. “Well, thank you very much,” he mumbles and does a gyrating kind of twist.
He keeps the accent all the way through the ceremony, and I find it pretty danged amazing that I manage to get through the whole thing without falling apart and just laughing like crazy. When he says, “You can kiss your burning love now,” I giggle. He says, “Come on, man, hurry up. It’s now or never. Her love won’t wait.”
Right then, I decide I’m going to have to get an Elvis greatest hits album.
The kiss is everything a girl dreams for it to be when she’s the bride and the groom is granted permission to kiss her. It’s elegant and sweet but it’s also passionate and powerful. I feel my body responding even as my heart responds. I feel filled up with emotion and happiness.
Yeah, okay. That’s an over the top and totally schoolgirl romantic thing to say. So, sue me. It’s how I feel, and that’s part of what makes this moment so perfect for me. It sort of feels like time just stops for a little bit as we kiss. It’s a beautiful feeling.
So, I step into the chapel unmarried and I step out as Mrs. Jonathon Golde. I also step out of the chapel an Elvis Presley fan. I guess that’s not as important as the first thing but I can tell you that I know Elvis is going to be a big part of the soundtrack to my life just because of how we ended up tying the knot. I like that, though. It’s kind of fun for me to realize Elvis is before Jonathon’s time just as much as he’s before my time.
I guess that helps with the whole age doesn’t matter thing, right?
The soundtrack to my life. It’s a wonderful thought.
“Are you happy Jon?” I ask once we’re outside of the chapel.
He looks at me with a little bit of concern on his face. “Are you?”
I giggle. “It’s not a trick question. I’m not trying to trap you, silly.”
He pulls me close and kisses my cheek. Into my ear, he whispers, “I can’t imagine being any happier than I am.”
I kind of melt against him for a little while. Finally, I say, “Let’s get to the room, baby.”
He laughs. “You don’t have to tell me twice.”
Well, I can tell you a whole lot but I’m only going to say two more things.
First, my wedding night is about the most perfect start to my new life. When I rest my head on his chest afterward, I know that happy ever after is in the cards for me.
The second thing I want to tell you is that if you’ve never made love to Elvis Presley music, you really need to give it a try.
