Chapter 43
MADDOX
As soon as the call ended, I received another text from Joslyn saying that Ronan was taking her to a cabin north of the compound.
I ran out of the front door of the cabin, knowing full well everyone had already left for the main building.
Ronan had fucking suggested to Bonnie the night before that she offer an early afternoon meal because everyone would be hung over.
I should have known, Ronan wouldn’t have thought of that on his own without a reason.
I ran to the main building because Joslyn had taken the golf cart earlier.
I needed to get to a vehicle and get to Joslyn but if what Ronan said was true then I needed to warn everyone so they could secure the compound and get people into the bunkers.
Ronan didn’t have the balls to actually hurt her—at least he better not. For everyone’s sake. As soon as I ran through the back door of the solarium, everyone’s attention shifted to me. Oscar was on his feet and by my side before I could get a word out.
“Ronan kidnapped Joslyn. He said that he did it to save her because there is a large group of rogue vampires on their way here to take her and destroy this place.”
“What?! He kidnapped her to protect her, but he knew about the incoming attack!? That shit don’t make no fucking sense.” Oscar was turning red and the beast within was rippling at the surface.
“That is what he said when Joslyn finally convinced him to call me. When he hung up, Joslyn messaged me to tell me he said he was taking her north to a cabin nearby. I have to go get her, but I don’t know what is coming—if anything.”
“We can get everyone into the bunkers under the compound and then get a car and go get Joslyn.”
“We have to make sure everyone is safe first. Joslyn would never forgive me if I let people die. I never thought this motherfucker would go this far. I would put nothing past him at this point. I mean, he fucking took her!”
Oscar turned to address the room that contained mostly cryptids.
“I want all humans to immediately go to the bunker that is located under the cabins! There is another bunker under this main building, but we need to evacuate.”
Everyone got up from their chairs and the individuals that weren’t as durable headed out the back door toward the cabins. The rest left the room with haste to alert others within the building.

Half an hour later I met Oscar back in the lobby. “Is everyone out of the building? I heard from Joslyn again. He turned off the main road onto a trail about thirty minutes up the road.”
“Almost, they started on the top floor and worked their way down not leaving a soul behind.”
“Good. As soon as everyone is out…”
There was a loud grinding sound and then without warning a large, armored truck drove through the front of the building and into the lobby. When the dust started to settle, I could see there was no one in the vehicle.
“RUN!!!!!” I was too late. The last thing I remember was being blown across the room and a loud ringing.
