Chapter 39
Levi
“You’re buying me flowers now?” I give her a crooked smile, looking down at her standing in my doorway, holding a white bouquet between us.
“Well, someone I love once told me that lilies mean forgiveness and although you said you forgave me, it’s important to me that you know I’m serious about asking you for it.”
A lump forms in my throat and I swiftly clear it, tamping down my emotions. “Smart man,” I tease, smirking.
“I never said anything about the person being a man,” she claims, not able to keep a straight face.
Laughing, I pick her up and spin her around, taking her inside with me and kicking the door shut. “Now you’re in trouble.”
“Levi, the flowers,” she squeals.
Moving back enough to remove the floral barrier between us, I set them on the table and swing her right back into my chest. “No more flowers. Just me and you.”
My palm goes to her cheek, and my thumb glides over her full lips a moment before my mouth crashes down on hers. The laughter instantly dissipates, replaced with pure desire. Her mouth falls open with a breathy moan and my tongue immediately sweeps inside, tangling with hers.
We quickly get lost in each other. My hands roam, gliding over her clothes, her pert nipples straining to break through. Our mouths move in tandem kissing, licking, nibbling, and sucking.
Her hand skates over my chest, down to my hard cock, pushing against the zipper of my jeans, desperate to escape.
Her phone rings, and she breaks the kiss, reaching for it. Inhaling her floral scent, I press my face into her neck as she answers. “Hello?” Pausing, she listens to the caller, while my tongue licks behind her ear.
Grinning, she leans away from me, attempting to focus on the call. “Okay. That’s perfect. Thanks!” Disconnecting her phone, she puts it in her pocket and playfully swats at me, giggling. “That was my brother.”
“Oh, sorry, about that.” I kiss her on the neck again.
She laughs. “No, you’re not, but I’m still making you stop.”
Straightening, I look down at her, my eyebrows drawn together in disbelief. “Seriously?”
“Yeah, I told you, I have plans for our date tonight,” she informs me.
“Can’t we just stay in?”
“No, and we have to go or else we’re going to be late.”
A groan leaves my lips. “Okay. Then, since I know you’re looking forward to this, let’s go before I beg you to change your mind.”
She laughs. “I promise you’ll have fun.”
“I’ll be with you, I know I will.”
“That sounds like one of your lines, Mr. Brennan.”
Chuckling, I claim, “You are absolutely the only person I would say that to.” Until we have kids–the thought crosses my mind before I can stop it, but it doesn’t make me shy away.
“Come on, Levi, let’s go.”
I slide into the passenger seat of Layla’s car, her scent wrapping around me like a glove. “Damn, it smells good in here. It’s a cute car.”
She side-eyes me as she pulls onto the road. “Cute?” I chuckle in response. “I forgot you’ve never been in my car. It makes you look small,” she teases.
Shaking my head in amusement, I inquire, “So where are we headed?”
“You’ll find out when we get there.”
Grinning, I relax back in the seat, enjoying the sound of her singing along with the radio.
A half-hour later, she’s driving into the pro ice hockey arena, the billboard announcing tonight’s game.

“We’re going to a hockey game?”
Shrugging, she explains, “Yeah, I figured you never get to sit and watch a game unless you’re working. I thought it would be fun to go to a game where you can enjoy it without having any pressure and it’s truly time off together.”
My heart clenches. “I can’t believe you thought of this. Do you even know if I like hockey?”
She parks the car and looks at me, suddenly nervous. “It was either this or basketball.”
My head falls back in laughter. Reaching for her, I palm her neck, my thumb caressing her jaw near her ear. “Yes, I like hockey. This was so damn sweet, Layla. I fucking love you. Doing this,” I gesture to the arena behind us. “This is awesome.”
“So does that mean you really do forgive me?”
Dropping my forehead to hers, I keep my grip on her neck, exhaling a harsh breath.
“You did not have to do something like this, Layla. I forgave you already. Just knowing you were genuinely regretful and you love me, that was more than enough.” Taking a deep breath, I attempt to process my thoughts. “Let’s make a promise to each other.”
“Okay,” she whispers.
“From now on, let’s do things for each other because we want to.”
“Does that mean I’m not getting any more flowers?” she jokes.
Chuckling, I reply, “You’ll have so many you can start your own flower shop if you want. I love buying you flowers.” Tipping my chin, I kiss her hard. “Let’s do things because we love each other.”
“Levi, I do love you.”
“I know, baby, and that’s all I need.”
Kissing her again, our mouths move together soft and slow.
My tongue juts out, licking the seam of her lips, keeping our kiss tender and light.
Breathless, we break our kiss. “Should we go to the game before it’s over, or do you just want to make out in the parking lot all night? I’m up for either.”
She snorts, blushing as she falls back in her seat looking sexy as fuck. Making out anywhere sounds damn perfect. “Let’s go watch a hockey game.”
