Chapter 6

Chapter Six

Samantha

My stomach growling wakes me up. I’m curled against Rafael’s chest, and blearily, I rub at my eyes. Then my brain registers that Rafael is in my bed. A shriek escapes me and I jerk away.

“Shh, darling. Everything is all right.” He runs a hand over my back soothingly. He’s still wearing the same clothes as earlier, but his hair is way more mussed up and there’s a bit of drool on his shirt.

“How the hell did you get in here?” I snap and rub at my eyes again, making sure that I’m not dreaming.

“I got a key,” he replies.

“Uh-huh.” I huff and climb out of the bed, too frazzled to dig deeper into that statement. Or into the fact that I don’t absolutely hate his high-handed ways. Hunger gnaws at my insides, and visions of triple cheeseburgers and pizza float around my head.

“Going somewhere?” he asks.

“Toilet, hallway, kitchen.” I detail my plan to him. He sits up and lifts a brow at my snappy tone. “I’m hangry.”

“I can see that,” he deadpans and I punch his shoulder.

“Ass.”

“You got one of those too.”

“Stop being funny. If you want to help, go order some triple cheeseburgers with extra fries and onion rings. And a banana milkshake and a Coke. And ask if they still have cheesecake left. The number is on the fridge.”

“Anything else?”

I think about it a moment, but then shake my head. “Nope. Large milkshake, mind you.”

“Yes ma’am.” He salutes with a grin, and I roll my eyes as I head toward the toilet. Impossible vampire. What the fuck is he even doing here?

I splash cold water on my face and brush my teeth, since I was too tired to do it earlier. That makes me feel almost human. Rafael is gone from the bedroom when I get back, and I find myself pulling out the comfy—but sexy—maxi dress with long sleeves out of the closet.

Quickly, I change into it and stick my feet into my slippers. The mirror assures me that I actually look pretty okay, all things considered. There’s color in my cheeks, my eyes are clear, my hair is behaving for once, and my boobs look splendid in this dress.

Now I need to gorge myself on all things unhealthy and I can call this a good day.

The low murmur of Rafael’s voice carries from the kitchen and I head over just as he hangs up.

“Your order will be delivered in twenty minutes,” he says when he notices me in the doorway.

“That’s fast. Usually it takes closer to an hour this late in the evening. Is it evening?”

“Yes, it is. And I guess we got lucky.” Rafael’s eyes twinkle and a smile tugs at the corner of his mouth.

I narrow my eyes. “What did you do?”

“Who says I did anything?”

“I do. Nate’s never delivers that fast.”

Rafael shrugs, still pulling off an innocent air. “They were willing to bump your order to the top of the list.”

“How did you manage that?” I narrow my eyes at him.

“I told them I have a hangry woman in the apartment and the man on the line was very understanding.”

“No, you didn’t!” I gasp.

“I did… and then I offered 500 as a tip if the food gets here in twenty minutes and his understanding converted into action.”

“Rafael!”

“What?”

“That’s bribery. It’s ridiculous.”

“So? It worked. You are hungry. I made sure you get the food fast and while it’s still hot.”

“I will pay for it myself.”

“No, you won’t,” he growls.

“Yes, I will.”

“Samantha.”

“Rafael.”

“Stop fighting with me just because you are hungry.”

“I’m not fighting with you.” I stomp my foot and his eyes widen as he takes in Roger and Ralph, then there is a definite quiver in his lips. I guess he missed them earlier. “Stop laughing,” I huff.

“Cute.” He’s unable to keep the chuckle out of his voice.

“Yeah, so? You got a problem?”

He moves faster than my eyes can follow and cages me against the wall. “So, they are adorable and make me want to kiss you.”

“Weirdo,” I mutter and then rise to meet his lips. My nipples harden at the contact, and I can’t resist the temptation to cup my breasts and gently roll them through the fabric.

Rafael’s gaze drops down and his fangs shoot out. The sight of them turns me on. I love knowing I have some effect on him. I roll my nipples again.

“Take them out and do that again.” His voice goes husky and I dip my hand down the neckline, grateful for the stretchy fabric, and lift my breast to his view. Pinching the nipple wrings a small whimper from the back of my throat. I want his fingers to replace mine.

“Other one.” Rafael’s eyes are glued to my chest and I follow his order, bringing the other breast out and playing with the nipple until it aches.

“Rafael,” I plead and he moves, clearing the table and lifting me onto it. I lean back onto my hands and push my chest up, wordlessly begging him to touch me.

“Such beautiful breasts.” He drops kisses all over them but ignores my nipples.

“Stop teasing.” I moan and he chuckles.

His arm wraps around my back as he eases me down and then leans in, his lips closing around my nipple and nipping hard.

My back arches in relief and need. He switches between my breasts and each tug sends small shocks to my clit.

The pleasure chases away the remnant aches and drowsiness until I’m as turned on as the night before.

Rafael reads my body with ease and pulls back to gather the hem of my dress into his hands and lifts it around my waist.

“No panties,” he murmurs and my thighs clench together in anticipation. “Spread your legs, Samantha.”

I do, without hesitation, and he smiles.

“Needy, so needy.”

“Just shut up and get your mouth on my pussy.”

“I do love how impatience drives you to talk dirty.”

“Rafael!”

He takes my hands and places them on my breasts and then takes a seat between my legs, like a man preparing to feast.

“Play with your breasts,” he says but doesn’t wait for me to obey. His mouth is all over my pussy and I scream the moment his tongue hits my clit. I come so swiftly it boggles my mind.

“Holy fuck.” I gasp for air and look down at him. There’s tenderness on his face as he kisses my thighs.

“Your body is still overly sensitive from everything,” he murmurs and pulls my dress down after one last lick at my pussy.

The doorbell ringing distracts me from my afterglow and I blink. The bell rings again and I glance at the clock. Was that really twenty minutes already?

Rafael gets up, kisses the tip of my nose, and heads for the door while I try to even out my breathing. I’m still lying on the table when he returns with the food.

“Gimme, gimme, gimme,” I say as I sit up and snatch the bag from him. The scent of grease and salt has my mouth watering and I stuff the first fry into my mouth and groan.

Rafael leans against the counter and watches me like I’m a specimen in a zoo. I don’t care. The burger drips sauce all over my fingers and I lick them clean before going for more. Somewhere in the middle, I dig into the other pack and pull out the ice-cold cola and sigh. Heaven.

I’m halfway done with my milkshake and purring in bliss when he comes closer and clears the trash away. There is a weird expression on his face that I can’t figure out, so I lift my eyebrow.

Rafael takes a seat opposite me and silently waits for me to finish my milkshake. When I put the cup down, he still doesn’t say anything.

“That was good,” I say just to break the silence.

“Not hungry anymore?”

“Nope.” I shake my head.

“Good.” His expression turns grim. “No one who’s trying to lose weight eats like that. Yet, you’ve lost some. Your friend was worried, truly worried. You came to the Lair looking for me, determined to fuck. What’s going on, Samantha?”

“Nothing. Can’t a girl get laid every once in a while, without it being the end of the world?” I snap.

Disappointment flashes across his face before it turns stony. Rafael crosses his arms over his chest and looks like he’s going to sit there until I come clean.

I huff. “I just had a few crappy days and wanted to have some fun. Is that so wrong?”

“No, there is nothing wrong with that. But that’s not all. I know you, Samantha, and you have never shown up at the Lair without underwear, no matter how crappy your day has been.”

I wrinkle my nose. “How would you know if I had underwear on or not?”

“I could compel the truth out of you.”

Yeah, that’s a nope. Compelling doesn’t work on me, thanks to the original lump in my brain. Or that’s the working theory Thea and I came up with. Since nothing else made sense.

The company I work for specializes in hazardous cleaning services. Things like accidents and crime scenes. There was a vampire on one of the sites we were contracted to clean. A gruesome murder; lots of blood left after the body had been taken away.

The vampire had beautiful blond hair that was streaked in blood, a cocktail dress—also drenched in blood—and she was just hanging around, looking smug.

Her compulsion for us to forget she was ever there didn’t sink in.

Everyone else in my crew treated her like air, and thankfully, some part of my survival instinct kicked in and I pretended not to see her either.

I don’t think my life expectancy would be very long if the knowledge that compulsion doesn’t work on me came out. It doesn’t matter much now, though.

“You can try,” I say and narrow my eyes at him. Now it’s interest that flashes in his eyes. They lock with mine and intensity bleeds into them. After a moment, I roll my eyes, get down from the table, and go dump the cup in the trash too.

“That’s very interesting,” Rafael says right behind me and I give out a little shriek. Damn him for moving so fast and quietly. “Now let’s try this again.” He spins me around and takes hold of my chin. “What’s going on, Samantha?” His eyes bore into mine, intense and determined.

“I told you, nothing that concerns you.”

“Everything you do concerns me.”

“You are not my boyfriend. It was just sex.”

“I may not be your boyfriend, yet, but it wasn’t just sex. Stop avoiding and tell me the truth.”

“The truth is I wanted to have sex with you.” I’m getting frustrated. Why is he pushing this?
