Chapter 46

Chapter Forty-Six

Zack

I’m listening to the conversation Samantha's friend is having with Grandfather about Patricia—arguing if the pack is entitled to kill her or not—when something shimmers next to me. Gasping, I look at the thing when he changes forms to human.

A tall, muscular man sits on the ground next to me. His green eyes glimmer in contrast to his ginger hair and pale skin. There’s something in him that demands attention and I run my eyes over his face again, counting the golden freckles on his cheeks and nose.

Distracted, I glance over at Grandfather when his tone turns cold. Shit, what did I miss? Samantha’s friend is waving her arms widely and shaking her head. Grandfather frowns and looks at Patricia and then at Samantha.

“Shift!” the thing barks and my wolf pulls back immediately. I lose track of the conversation going around me and turn without thought. What the hell?

“Blood,” he rumbles.

“What?” I gasp and try to shake my head to clear it.

“She wants your blood.”

“What?” I repeat, not comprehending his meaning.

“My mate. She wants your blood, says she needs it, so get to it.”

This time, the shocked “What?” comes from Santiago. The man looks ready to knock our heads together. I get a feeling he could do it too, despite the bruises and cuts he’s sporting.

“My mate”—he points at Samantha—“says she wants your blood.” He points at me. When I don’t move fast enough, he barks, “Give it to her!”

“She can’t drink from him.” Santiago gasps.

“She’s getting your blood through him.” The thing points at Rafael. “So I don’t see the problem.” His brow furrows for a second, then a growl that should not come out of a man fills the air. “She’s hungry. Feed her!”

My hand lifts toward Santiago’s mouth before I have even time to think.

My wolf growls but is not pushing forward.

In fact, he seems to be eager to feed Samantha, despite the thing’s orders.

Santiago looks at me and I nod. If it will help Samantha, I will do it.

Besides, I already fed him once. There are so many lines already crossed that one more won’t matter much.

Santiago still hesitates for a moment, but then his fangs sink into my wrist. I expect a pinch of pain like last time, but there’s only soft pleasure as he pulls on my blood.

I lock my eyes on Samantha when my dick starts to get hard.

I’m sitting naked in a clearing full of wolves and signs of battle, my woman is battered in front of my eyes, and my dick doesn’t care.

With every pull Santiago takes, it throbs.

Fuck.

Then Samantha’s gaze turns to me and I blink.

Is she blushing? Color rises on her chest and cheeks, and she looks hungrily at my naked chest and then lower.

Her jaw flexes around Rafael’s wrist, making the vampire moan.

I think he bites harder on Santiago, who in turn sucks in a mouthful of my blood and I have to do my best not to spill on the ground.

So not the time and place.

The thing is rumbling and smoothing his fingers over Samantha’s matted hair. She’s not flinching away from him and the tenderness in his gaze throws me for a loop. He looks at her like she’s the only thing that matters. Like she is a treasure. His treasure.

My wolf's hackles rise, but he holds back when Samantha almost imperceptibly nuzzles into his caress. What the hell? Santiago sucks more of my blood and I get lost in the haze of pleasure.

“That’s enough,” the thing says and taps his finger on Samantha’s nose.

She frowns at him but slowly releases her fangs from Rafael. He growls, Santiago rumbles, and my wolf howls his protest.

“I—”

The thing cuts Samantha off. “Your men need to stock up and you need to digest what you took, my mate.”

“Fuck off,” Samantha snarls weakly, then she slaps a hand over her mouth.

The thing smiles knowingly. “They’ll feed you again soon.”

I want to argue, but Santiago seems to somewhat agree with the thing since he releases my wrist and licks the wounds closed. Rafael does the same for Santiago and all of us look around with bewildered eyes as the rest of the world slowly starts to seep back in.

A vicious howl breaks through the air and I curse. Henry is here.
