Chapter Thirty
Ryker
F or days, I pored over every book the Scholars could find about the Rip and other realms. I would growl at them, and they would bring me more.
One book in particular seemed interesting, but it was mainly all myths. Myths often took inspiration from the world around us though. So perhaps there was some merit to it. It was a story about an adventure of passing through forgotten gates into other realms and discovering new creatures, people, and cultures. But none mentioned dark wielders. None mentioned what these forgotten gates were. I spent all that time researching for absolutely fucking nothing.
I was out of alternative solutions.
Hakoa had had some sort of fight with Malina and went back to Oryn. And thank the Gods because I didn’t need him getting in my way. Nikan and Malina had been away for the last couple of days on a Roav job. There was no one to talk me out of it. I would fly there instead of Traveling with Theron, who would just stop me.
I shut the heavy book in my hands with a deep thunk that echoed through the shelves. Glancing to the nearest wall, I noted the position of the sun. It was nearly dusk.
If I leave now, I can make it to the Rip by morning.
I took a deep breath, taking in the calming scent of the great library before I stood and made my way down the stairs of Morah with firm determination. I patted myself down, ensuring I had my knives as I hit the bottom level and headed straight out the large doors.
I’m coming, little gem.
Just as I cleared the last step onto the street, Nikan came galloping around the corner on a sweat covered horse and pulled to a halt directly in front of me then leapt off.
“Ryker,” Nikan panted. “You’re still here.”
“I was just leaving,” I said as I made to move around him.
“Wait,” he said hurriedly, holding up his hands.
“I’m done waiting,” I said in a low voice. I turned around and began removing my shirt to shift my wings.
“He’s back,” Nikan blurted.
My entire body froze before I slowly turned around to face him. From the concerned look on his face, I knew Nikan wasn’t lying. And I knew who he was before I even asked.
“Daegel.”
