27. Sutton
SUTTON
Catching Foster off guard, I see him glance over his shoulder as I open the shower door. It’s been a few weeks, and he has been patient while I kept him at bay. But time is what I needed, and the clock is now up. I’m ready to move on fully.
He isn’t sure what to say or do. He has been letting me lead, and even when I saw him struggle as we lay in bed together, he kept himself restrained.
“Foster, I want you,” I rasp as I join him under the spray of water.
No hesitation, no question, his hands frame my face, and his lips cover mine for a deep kiss, a welcoming reminder of how we fit perfectly. The flick of his tongue touches mine, a tease as he continues to kiss me reverently. There is no doubt about it. He’s been waiting.
Pulling away, he wipes my hair away from my face and holds my eyes captive. “Fuck, Sutton, I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you, too.”
“And I love you so fucking much.”
“I love you, too.”
Holding one another in an embrace, we stand under the warm water for what feels like minutes as we find peace in our reunion.
There is no point in playing coy, though.
We haven’t been intimate in weeks, and neither of us wants to prolong it.
The choice of the shower adds a little extra element as opposed to welcoming him inside me in the bed.
But I don’t care, and I won’t wait.
My hand slides between us to grip his cock. Immediately, he wraps his fingers around my wrist, his eyes blazing with heat, and his face clearly signaling that he now wants control.
“Don’t make me stop.” I pout, wanting the tip of Foster’s cock at my lips.
Foster smirks slyly. “As much as I love having you on your knees for me, not a fucking chance right now. You will stand and let me be the one on their knees.” He’s already stepping me back.
I’m a little bit annoyed I can’t lead us, but I know his thinking.
I’m heavily pregnant, and although I’m in top physical condition, he is a gentleman who ensures I stay comfortable.
The spray of water soaks my hair, and I wipe my face as he gets down on his knees, keeping one leg bent with his foot on the ground. He brings my foot to rest on his thigh, using him as a stool, and more importantly, ensuring I’m open for him.
My back rests against the cool stone of the shower wall, causing my nipples to peak from the cold.
With my body stable, I close my eyes as he begins to lick me.
I’m not going to complain about this change in scene.
I caress my breasts as he continues to lap me up, his tongue slipping inside me spontaneously between strokes.
The sound of running water mixes with my breathy gasps.
When I’m on the cusp of an orgasm, I rake my hands through his hair to hold on and lead him to the exact spot I like, encouraging the speed.
Then I shatter, completely shatter. My moan is loud, and when Foster pulls away, his smirk is cocky. He only aims to succeed, after all.
Giving myself a few beats, I steady my breathing. I’m about to turn around to plant my hands on the wall so he can enter me from behind, but he stops me.
“No, you don’t. You’re going to be late if you stay in here another minute.” Ugh, it’s a workday.
“But you still need to come,” I protest.
He rolls his eyes, humorously annoyed by my determination. “Later when we have more time and I can show you how I’ve missed you in bed. Go. I’ll take care of myself.”
I can’t help but laugh. “You know I like watching you when you make yourself come. There is something about the way you hold your cock.” I’m well aware my voice and facial expression are sultry.
He’s staying strong, though. “Go.”
Grumbling, I listen.
A few minutes later, I’m staring in the bathroom mirror, lining my eyes with a light pencil. The towel tied around my body doesn’t slip, and the matching one wrapped around my hair is perfectly tight.
Yawning, I take a pause in my makeup attempt.
“Four more days and then it’s the weekend,” I announce when I hear the shower door open from around the corner.
In the mirror, I see Foster appear from the steam, and he grabs a towel from the nearby hook.
Even though it’s routine when we get ready for work, my breath always catches when I see him emerge from the shower this way.
“If you’re counting days, that isn’t a good sign,” he reminds me as he sets the towel to hang on his hips.
“We both know why. At least, today I have the meeting.” I’ve come to accept that I can’t influence the result. It’s out of my hands. For our son, I can’t live on nerves.
He stalls. “You do. You know you can always…”
Rolling my eyes, I know the direction this conversation is going, causing me to return to my makeup efforts.
He walks to me, then kisses the curve of my shoulder. “You know you can go on maternity leave now if you want.”
I gawk at him through the mirror. “No, thank you. I will be working to the very last day, proving the point that I’ve done nothing wrong and my work is of a high standard.
I’m not someone who made a mistake and is hiding behind a pregnancy.
I will be back.” It always feels like I have a point to prove to everybody in the professional world.
Even though I would say I don’t give a damn and blaze trails, I’m out of my realm during this pregnancy.
Underlying sentiments of insecurity popped up.
People will look at me and see a mom, and not everyone will grasp that I work the same.
My career identity is about to be shaken.
“Just saying.”
Sighing, I turn into his arms, needing to take a moment. “It’s fine. I’ve been nervous about today, haven’t been sleeping well, and need to pee a lot.”
His fingers feather along the length of my arms while he peers down into my eyes. “I know. It’s been a struggle to get comfortable. Now that you will let me, I’ll give you orgasms every night to help you sleep. Are you positive you’re physically feeling okay?”
“Yeah. Only four weeks to go.”
“Exactly. After the meeting, I can talk to Celeste and Olivia to see about—”
My finger flies up to shush him, and I simultaneously grumble. “You will do no such thing. Work is work. Home is home. You will not interfere or play the Mr. CFO card. Although wildly hot, it will make things worse. We are already in a hole. I can handle it myself.”
“Okay,” he complies with a soft smile. “Anyway, I’ll get us a table at Noshy for tonight.”
My eyes light up, and all talk of physical misery is swept away. “Really?”
“Yep. When you let me use my connections, things happen,” he teases.
We made it our mission to try out new restaurants before our little boy comes. Even when we haven’t been intimate lately, we’ve still taken time to be together, because we’re aware that time for the two of us is limited before life changes.
“We’ll go only if the meeting is okay. I hope we can use your connections. This is why I love you.” I tie my arms around his neck. “You make my foodie dreams come true. Let’s order a lot so I can bring home a doggy bag. I won’t have to worry about dinner tomorrow when you go to San Diego for work.”
He clucks his tongue, and his eyes remain set on me. “Not going. I canceled it.”
“Oh? Since when?”
His smirk is smooth, maybe a little cocky. “Since thirty minutes ago, before you joined me in the shower. I had already emailed my assistant.”
Lines form on my head. “Why?”
His fingers cup my chin with the pad of his thumb, caressing my cheek. “Because I don’t want to travel if you’re not feeling 100% or if the meeting…” He doesn’t dare finish that sentence. “In fact, I will probably cancel all of my business trips for a while.”
My eyes pop out. “Foster,” I groan. “You can’t do that. You have people to yell at and numbers to crunch. Our relationship can’t get in the way.”
“Sutton, quiet. I can be Mr. Badass from my phone or desk. I don’t want to be away from you. The clock is ticking, and we need to enjoy this time of quiet and calm, and somebody has to massage your feet or be the punching bag while you toss and turn at night.”
Truthfully, a part of me blooms with happiness. I would much rather have him near. Anxiousness for the baby has been trickling into my daily life more and more.
Smiling, I bask in the arms of a man who only wants to take care of me. “Well, who can say no to foot massages?”
Leaning in, our lips meet for a tentative touch, but our warm kiss turns deeper, and I hum in the back of my throat as his mouth holds a strong command. It’s a struggle when we pull away.
His hand pats my ass. “Now move it along. We’re going to be late.”
I sigh playfully. “Okay, I shall obey. My husband did nab us reservations at Noshy, after all.”
Walking to the conference room with my laptop tucked under my arm, our baby boy is moving inside me to the point I’m not sure it’s normal.
A kick, then one that feels lower, another nearly stabs me.
I knew I shouldn’t have had a piece of carrot cake from the breakroom.
Sugar tends to make him go a little active. But I was stress eating.
I enter the room as though I’m distributing weight between the balls of my feet and my heels because I’m insistent that heels are needed in the office.
My redistribution of weight is an attempt to calm both the baby and me.
Managing to give an unwavering smile, I notice Celeste and Olivia looking at me peculiarly.
“Are you okay?” Olivia asks.
“Mmhmm.”
I swivel out the chair opposite Celeste, her face neutral with her hands folded on the table.
Olivia clears her throat. “I’m going to cut to the chase. You’re in the clear.”
A whoosh goes through me that the issue just popped away into oblivion. My sigh of relief fills the room.
“There is no reason for the bar association to be contacted, and as you and Foster already disclosed a while ago, the only issue was contracts you had both worked on together before you disclosed. The external party found that nothing was out of the ordinary, and any complaints are invalid. As far as I’m concerned, this issue is closed. ”
“I’m very… This is good news.”
Olivia smiles at me. “It is. I’m happy they wrapped this up before you go on leave in a few weeks.”
Nodding my head vigorously, I couldn’t agree more.
Olivia turns sharply to Celeste. “Well, with this confirmation, I’m sure work will continue as normal.” Her warning comes with a practiced poised face.
Celeste adjusts in her chair. “Of course.”
“I’m sure everything is fair,” I tell everyone to balance the energy between them.
“We should have a look at your workload.”
Olivia almost smacks the table. “Great. I’m sure you two will be a great team.
I’ll let you be. I want to chat with the team across the hall about some vacation days.
” She uses her feet to push back and rise, giving Celeste a pointed look before walking away.
She pauses at the door. “Contact me if you have any last-minute questions about the leave… either of you.” She smiles.
My attention diverts back to Celeste who has already buried her focus in her laptop. I open my own and skim my inbox for our email exchange.
“Contracts on the to-do list. Let’s see…” she announces cheerily and even seems authentic as she slides her laptop away. “You seem to be spitting them out at record speed.”
“Staying on top of everything is how I run things,” I remind her. “I have it planned so everything will be done and dusted before I leave.”
“I’m sure. With Adam back and us taking on an extra in-house lawyer, I’m sure we will be fine.”
I twitch a smile because I don’t enjoy the thought of somebody filling my role, even if temporarily. Another jab hits me within, and a chill comes to me. Okay, now the little guy is not cooperating. For ten minutes, I need to be focused.
Swallowing, I do my best to continue the conversation.
“Article 19 of the Tucks contract that they want us to sign was missing key verbiage, and I sent the points over yesterday. I’m assuming they will consult their own legal before coming back to us at the end of the week.
They need Haven Crossroads to start with their logistics in two months. Time isn’t on their side.”
“I trust you. When it’s ready to sign, let me know.” She shifts in her seat and observes me strangely. “I’m going to be honest. You look a little pale. Do you want a drink or something?” She sounds genuinely concerned.
Forcing myself to shake my head, I attempt my uneasy smile, but the pain that comes to me is a struggle to work through. It’s a cramp.
“If you say so. How about we go over the Dibbson contract real quick? Can you check with Hayes about it? You’re really good with that fine print.”
Nodding, I manage to make it through the next five minutes of conversation, surprised even by a few of her compliments. But then the pain happens again, and this time I can’t hide it.
My hand instinctively goes to hold my belly, and I gasp.
Celeste stands up, and her face fills with worry. “What’s wrong?”
Standing up, as the pain stays consistent but a little lighter, I notice something right away. A few drops of wetness between my legs, I can feel it through my leggings under my sweater dress.
“Fuck,” I curse to myself as the magnitude of where I am disappears.
“Sutton?”
Blowing out a breath to gather my bearings, my mind catches up, and I try to push panic to the side. “It’s the baby. I think he’s coming,” I admit, and instantly wonder why this keeps happening to me.
Life taking detours.
