I’ve found a supplier for the diapers: the Breton company that used to supply us at the maternity ward; I know they also make models for nursing homes.
As for the latex outfits, I’ve spotted a specialized site that makes them to measure—a German site, actually, since no French company operates in this niche.
That will likely be our only departure from our commitment to a short supply chain.
Gwendal is growing increasingly enthusiastic about this dairy diversification, though he is well aware they will need help—even though Louane has clearly defined their roles: he handles the "traditional" farm, while she manages the new herd.
Louane is proving to be full of initiative; she is drafting layout plans for the cellar that include individual stalls for each cow—a real luxury.
Added to this is a milking parlor capable of handling five cows at once, as well as a changing room for swapping their diapers three times a day.
She has planned for a gradual expansion of the herd; the fully fitted-out barn could, she believes, accommodate up to fifty cows.
As for staffing, Louane already has in mind at least three midwives who lost their jobs at the same time she did when the maternity ward closed.
They share Louane’s deep-seated anger at no longer being able to live in their own country—something they often discussed during work breaks.
She doesn't think it will be hard to convince them—or at least one of them, to start with—to join her and Gwendal in this new farming venture.
Things were taking shape, and Gwendal—a trained carpenter—had no trouble fitting out the cellar with the first five wooden stalls, as well as a changing area and a milking room.
After discussing it, the couple decided on a completely independent milking circuit for the new herd, along with a clearly separate storage area.
This entailed extra costs, but the young couple had savings from an inheritance Gwendal had received, and they didn't hesitate to invest the money in their production facilities.
Louane immediately thought of her cousin Lo?c, a sailing instructor in Saint-Gwénolé, to help spot their first cow among the throngs of his students.
He was let in on the plan and quickly got on board with the project.
By late July, Gwendal and Louane were ready to welcome their first cow.
It would be a Jersey—an English breed—named Sarah.
Lo?c provided Gwendal and Louane with candid photos of the sailing student, as well as the make and size of the wetsuit she wore for catamaran sailing.
This allowed Louane to order two latex suits in the colors characteristic of the English breed.
Lo?c had plenty of time to find out where the young Englishwoman was staying; she was on a language exchange with a French girl her own age, and both were vacationing at the French girl's parents' holiday home.
The Englishwoman, who was more athletic than her French counterpart, went for a solo jog along the coastal path every morning.
Lo?c would therefore have no trouble crossing paths with her during her morning run in the final days of her stay in Brittany.
A chloroform-soaked handkerchief pressed suddenly against the young Englishwoman’s face; she struggled in vain for about thirty seconds before falling into a deep sleep.
Lo?c carried her to his Volkswagen bus and laid her down in the back.
It is only a thirty-minute drive to Louane and Gwendal’s farm.
They receive the young Englishwoman, take her down to the cellar, and lay her on an adult-sized changing table; she remains completely limp and unconscious.
Louane tells Gwendal she will handle things now, as per their agreed-upon division of roles.
It is also a test to see if the system they devised holds up in practice.
Louane removes the young woman’s sneakers and socks; wasting no time on niceties, she picks up a pair of heavy-duty shears and begins cutting into Sarah’s T-shirt.
She does the same with her shorts. Next, she cuts the bra between the cups and at the straps before removing it, finishing with the panties, which join the shredded clothes at the foot of the changing table.
Louane prepares two thick, anatomically shaped diapers and places them inside a snap-fastened plastic cover.
She slides the assembly under Sarah’s buttocks, folds the diapers up, and snaps the plastic cover shut.
She checks the fit, ensuring the thick, absorbent layers are pressed firmly against the young woman’s crotch and buttocks.
This step isn't the hardest part; next comes the challenge of putting on the latex bodysuit.
Louane has chosen a material that is thin and stretchy yet tear-resistant to make the process easier.
She pulls the legs on first, enclosing Sarah’s feet in the suit’s built-in clog-shaped booties.
She manages to pull the suit up to the waist quite easily.
Pleased that she correctly accounted for the bulk of the diaper at the seat and crotch, Louane slips the arms on before turning Sarah over onto her stomach to fasten the suit.
She ultimately opted for a top-to-bottom zipper.
This would allow her to open the suit at Sarah’s backside without opening the top, and to remove the legs of the suit to change Sarah’s diaper.
The zipper extended down to the lower back, allowing the suit to be closed.
Louane then put on the hood—complete with horns and ears—before turning Sarah back onto her back and checking that the suit fit properly; it did.
She tested the front zipper, which ran down from the neck, to see if opening it would effectively expose her new cow’s udders; it did.
Satisfied, she zipped it back up, then secured Sarah’s wrists on either side of her head using handcuffs attached to the legs of the changing table.
She left the room, turning off the light behind her, and went back up to the living room, where Gwendal was waiting for her with some impatience.
Louane: “Everything is fine, whether it was the diaper or especially the latex suit that I had the most fears about. All we have to do now is turn on the computer and connect to the cameras in the basement to see if everything works as it did during the tests.”
Louane opens the laptop and connects to the network of cameras that Gwendal has installed in the different rooms and the cellar corridor.
She chooses the camera installed just above the changing table where Sarah is lying, tied up and asleep.
Difficult to estimate the time needed for her to come back to her senses, a priori still a good hour according to Louane's estimates.
Gwendal discovers Sarah in her English cow outfit.
Louane: “I correct you Gwendal, you have before your eyes Sarah your first Jersey cow”.
The couple has their eyes glued to the computer screen.
The camera images are very clear when Louane switches from one camera to another.
Louane is quite serene, Gwendal a little more tense.
Louane suggests that she go take care of her other cows, she will watch for Sarah to wake up and will call her companion when this is the case.
Gwendal has plenty of time to do her evening milking and come back to watch the first movements of her new cow.
She moves slightly before opening her eyes.
She quickly tries to get up but realizes that her arms are restrained, panic quickly shows on her face, she immediately screams for help, Louane is forced to turn down the sound on the computer.
Young Sarah struggles but her wrists are securely tied, she kicks her legs and raises her head to discover the incongruous outfit in which she finds herself.
Seeing that she continues to scream, Louane cuts the sound on the computer and with Gwendal they listen.
No noise reaches them from the cellar where Sarah is locked up.
They leave the living room and go out into the courtyard because the changing room is located under the farmyard.
Again no noise but it is true that the floor of the cellars is more than ten meters underground so there are more than 7.5 meters of earth between the ceiling of the cellars and ground level.
This thickness combined with the sound insulation in hemp panels installed by Gwendal forms a perfect acoustic screen.
However, it will have to be tested not on a single cow but on an entire herd in the long term.
Louane decides to let Sarah scream and tire out pulling on her bonds before going down to see her.
So she has dinner with Gwendal before going down to the cellar via the new access they have created.
They blocked the original access which led into the house to create a more discreet one which leads into the stable.
An electric hatch covered with two bales of straw controls access.
Once closed, the hatch is invisible. Gwendal has created a wide, practical and safe staircase given that Louane will now use this passage several times a day to take care of her livestock.
When Louane enters the changing room, Sarah is a little calmer but she immediately calls out to the young woman in English when she opens the door to the room.
Louane speaks English very well but refuses to answer.
She carefully walks around the changing table to avoid the kicking of the young cow's hind hooves and goes to unhook her halter hanging from the room partition.
She stands behind the cow and puts on the soft leather halter fitted with a wooden bit which she places in the cow's mouth before closing the halter on the neck.
The halter has a ring in the neck which allows you to attach a leather lanyard with a carabiner.
This is what Louane does. Once her cow is prepared, she detaches the handcuffs from the cow's front legs then grabs the lead rope and a long wooden stick with a leather strap.
She presses the pedal of the changing table and lowers it to ground level.
The young detached cow immediately tries to stand up, but that's without taking into account the pimples inside the hooves of its hind legs.
She lets out a cry of pain—muffled by the bit in her mouth—as the spikes make contact with the soles of her hooves, forcing her to drop to her knees; standing upright is impossible for her.
She finds herself on all fours on the room's wooden floor, right next to the changing table.
