14. Savvy

Chapter 14

Savvy

28 Weeks

“ W ho the hell do we need to protect ourselves from, MJ?” I question her as I start grabbing the few knives I can find here in the kitchen. The chef brings her own, and they have removed almost anything that could be used to arm myself with since I got more freedom in the house.

“We need to move now, and you can ask questions later.” She grabs a knife from me and moves to the freezer, opening it and going in. She pops back out within thirty seconds holding a very large gun, handing it to me.

“Knives are my thing, apparently you can shoot according to Sin.” MJ smiles at me as she grabs my arm pulling me out of the kitchen into the mudroom, and out the back door.

“I shoot shot guns and handguns, not military grade weapons!” I hush shout at her as she pulls me into the mudroom, looking out the window only slightly pulling the curtains back.

“If you can shoot one gun you can shoot any! Hell, should make you an even better shot!” She whispers back at me cool as a cucumber, smiling like this is fun. She isn’t even breathing hard. I feel like my heart is about to pop out of my chest when she whispers loudly, “Now!” She grabs my hand, and we rush out the backdoor staying close to the house until we see there are no guards back here .

“Slow down, I can’t move that fast anymore.” I plead once we are out far enough away from the house that darkness covers us completely.

“Sorry! Shit I forgot! We should be good now!” MJ chirps as she lets go of my hand and starts skipping.

“How are you so calm and happy when we just had to basically run for our lives.” I ask breathlessly, stopping to catch my breath for a second.

“Because Alec is coming to get us! I think I may actually love him.” She sounds almost giddy.

“Who should we be afraid of MJ? Alec asked about me. Why? Does he know who I am?” I ask hoping that he will return me to Christian and not be taking me to some asshole willing to pay for a pregnant woman...

“If my plan worked, he knows exactly who you are and who you should be with. I’m thinking that he is coming to rescue us both. My own knight in shining armor! Can you imagine? Come on let’s get inside the barn, just don’t turn any lights on!” She rushes us into the barn and upstairs to the loft where she pulls me behind hay bales to sit where we can still see if anyone comes in. Once we get situated where I can prop the gun up to be able to shoot from a sitting position, I look it over figuring out where the safety is and what I need to do to actually shoot it. It’s not much different than the guns I used to shoot milk jugs and pop bottles in the pasture with my brother and his friends.

We sit there waiting for something to happen, but nothing does. My hands are shaking as I think of the possibilities of how this night could turn out.

“Will Alec take me back to Sin?” I finally asked her.

“Savvy….” Her voice is cut off by the barn door being opened abruptly into the tin wall making a horrific loud bang. I aim for the guys chest, but my finger slips on the trigger when I lose my balance, and the gun starts shooting, I knock it over, startled that that’s all it took .

“Savvy, please tell me you just shot me!” I hear Sins voice and tears begin to fall. I get to my feet and down the stairs to him as fast as I can with MJ’s help. He is lying on the ground laughing, holding his shoulder when I finally get to him.

“Oh my God, Sin. I’m so sorry! Are you okay? I didn’t know it was you!” I fall to my knees as he sits up and I can’t believe it’s really him. He opens his arms, wincing as I throw myself into them and let the tears fall. He grunts on impact but holds me tight.

“Fuck,” a tall, blonde, buff guy dressed in all black comes in and MJ runs to him, jumping in his arms. He looks her over making sure she is okay before turning to us.

“You okay Sin?” he asks, still laughing at the fact that one of us shot him.

“Just a flesh wound, I’ll live.” He grumbles, still not letting me go. He holds me there and I let it sink in that he really is here. I take in a deep breath, letting the smell of my Sin wash over me.

“Come on, we need to get out of here and get you to our doctor to get checked out, both of you.” Alec says, as he and MJ help us up. We head back to the house, and I can’t help but feel like I’m in a dream I will be waking up from any second.

We get to an SUV towards the back of a line of vans. I stop Sin and turn back towards the house. “There is something that I need to go back in for.” I turn back towards the house, but Sin has an iron grip on me not letting me go. I wince at the pain just his touch against my bruised skin causes but try not to show it.

“You are not going back in there.” Sin holds onto me like I’m going to disappear, and if I’m being honest, I’m thankful because I’m waiting for him to disappear like he always does just before I wake up.

“Come with me, please, I can’t leave it here!” I practically beg. Sin gives in, looking at me like I’m nuts, shaking his head, but we move towards the house as another guy in all black comes out with Scarlett, acting as if she is a victim. I guess she is, but now she is my victim .

“That one doesn’t get special treatment, she is not of saint blood, and needs to be sent home or put to death, your choice, but she is poisonous.” I tell the guy I assume is a Saint. I see the surprise in his eyes, at my harshness.

“She isn’t a good person, do whatever you want with her.” Sin backs me up.

I get to the stairs and hesitate, remembering the day I woke up here and fought, just to lose so much. I can’t look Sin in the eye. He knows. I know he knows because of the way he has been looking at me since he found me in the barn. Like I’m broken. He has never looked at me that way before.

“I just want to get my journal.” I tell him, so he will stop looking at me like I’m about to break.

“You kept a journal?” He asks as we get to my room. I open the dark green door and hesitate, my legs not allowing me to go in. I can’t make myself move. I’m just stuck in place.

“Where is it?” He asks, as dozens of men move past us to search the next room.

“Under my pillow.”

Sin runs into the room and comes back out with a note. He hands it to me as he shakes his head letting out a breath.

Don’t worry Savannah, I have your journal, I will make sure you and baby Kohl are with me by the time you give birth. Keep him safe sweetheart.

Love, Max

I wad the piece of paper up, throwing it down as a tear slips out. “Did you get him?” I ask, hoping with everything in me that this is really over.

“No. He and Fiona fled their stockyards and Fiona made it here, but Max is nowhere to be found. My guess, he is running. Don’t worry angel, he won’t get far. We did get Mark and Fiona. I will keep them for you until you are ready. We will get him though.” Sin pulls me close to him and for the first time in a long time, even with the pain, I feel safe.

SIN

“Wake up angel, we’re home. The girls are dying to see you, but it’s late. If you want to take tonight, everyone will understand.”

“No, I want to see the girls. How are they?” Savvy tries to sit up, but winces, sitting back quickly.

“What’s wrong angel? Are you hurt?” I try to look her over, but she pulls away from me quickly, putting up her hands. Alec wanted her checked out, but MJ said to let her sleep and wouldn’t let anyone else near her.

“No, no, no, I’m fine, just tired. Belly gets in the way now.” She looks down and won’t look back up.

“Savvy,” I reach out to touch her, but she slaps my hand away.

“I’m sorry, I just want to go in our home and see our friends. I need to know this isn’t a dream.” She finally looks up as tears spill over.

“Whatever you need, angel.” I open the door and put my hand out to help Savvy out of the SUV, but she doesn’t take it, she just looks at it, backing away from the door moving herself as far away from me as she can.

She starts crying and hyperventilating, “I knew this wasn’t real, it never is. I swear I could smell you this time, I could feel you. Make it stop. I can’t do this anymore, please.” She crumbles, curling up on the seat sobbing as she hugs her belly.

“Savvy, angel, listen to the sound of my voice.” I pull her bracelet out of my pocket and hold it out to her. “Look, angel, it’s real, always and forever, remember? You’re home. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. Please let me help you.” I get in the SUV on my knees, and softly touch her arm. She jerks, startled, but doesn’t push me away. She raises her head, opening her eyes, realizing that I really am right next to her. She reaches her hand up and takes the bracelet, giving me a small smile. She looks at her arm and then back to me. She pinches it and gasps, realizing it hurts. She almost laughs, then slaps the shit out of herself. She bursts out laughing as she clutches her bracelet to her chest.

“It’s real, you haven’t disappeared yet. Your shoulder is wrapped up because I shot you!” Her eyes get big again as she points at my shoulder. “I’m home, you’re here, Kohl is safe.” Tears continue to fall, but she seems better.

“It’s real,” I give her the best smile I can, considering what she just did to herself.

“Come on, Cami is dying to introduce you to your God daughter.” I saw the light spark back in her eyes for just a second mentioning her friends, but her flame ignites hearing about Morgan Rose and her best friend.

I let her get out of the SUV on her own. She is keeping her distance from me and won’t look at me. Hopefully she will talk to her friends. I won’t push her to tell me, but I need to know what else will trigger her. I don’t want to be the cause of her fear. My heart can’t take it.

We don’t even make it to the stairs in the courtyard before the girls hit Savvy like a ton of bricks.

“Savvy!” Cami yells as she hands baby Morgan to Charlie and runs until the two collide. Mia and Abby are close behind her. She hugs them all, and I see the pain she is in with every touch. They all let the tears of joy fall as they just enjoy the moment. I let them fall knowing she is still hurting even though she is home. I didn’t get to her before they broke her.

“I’ve missed you all so much. I was so worried I was going to wake up one day and have one of you as a bunkmate. Wait, where is Jill?” Savvy stops everyone abruptly as her smile fades completely. “Where the fuck is that bitch? I’m gonna kill her!” She looks at all of us as we stop at the mention of her name, and I realize she knows .

“She is in a cell in the caves.” Joe responds first. Savvy whips her head to Joe as tears fill her eyes.

“I’m so sorry for what she did to you, to all of us. It’s your call Joe, I won’t touch her until you give the okay.” She looks him in the eyes as tears fall.

“I uh, don’t care. Do what you want with her, she was never truly mine.” Joe sighs as he looks down. I know he is hurting in the worst way possible.

“Not tonight. Tonight, I want to sit with my family and get to know our little Morgan Rose. This is what I need right now.” Savvy looks around the courtyard and stops.

“Sin, where is MJ?” she asks as her eyes go wide at the realization of something.

“She is safe with Alec, we dropped them off on the way home, she didn’t want to wake you. Said you haven’t been sleeping.” I try to explain, but she is shaking her head.

“She can’t stay with Alec, it’s against the rules, before their wedding. Saints can’t take their covenant home while she is underage; she will be tarnished in the Saints eyes. She needs to come here until the wedding.” She is practically frantic.

I take out my phone and call Alec,

“That was fast. Thought you would be enjoying your time with your wife.” Alec answers.

“Savvy is saying that MJ can’t stay with you before the wedding, is that true?”

“It’s a technicality that gets overlooked from time to time. It shouldn’t be a problem given the circumstances. The rules for MJ are different because she is a Saints orphan. Her guardian is about to be locked up and now she is my responsibility.”

“But she could be tarnished, meaning you wouldn’t be able to marry her?” I ask, not knowing what all this means. Savvy looks like she is ready to scream at Alec as she takes my phone from me.

“You bring MJ here now! If she gets tarnished, I will fucking kill you. Don’t fuck it up for her because you can’t wait a few months to get your dick wet. If you love her, you will bring her here, and let us help plan your wedding. She deserves this time to get to just be a girl for the first time in her life and you aren’t going to take it away from her!” Savvy yells at him, not letting him get a word in, then hangs up, and hands the phone back to me smiling. How does she know all this?

“They should be here within the hour. Now give me that baby.” Savvy can’t hold her excitement as she holds out her arms to Charlie as fresh tears fall down her face. We all look at each other, but Cami just rolls her eyes and takes Morgan from Charlie, kissing baby Morgans cheek as she hands her to Savvy.

“That’s better.” Cami says softly as she steps back looking at Savvy holding her beautiful daughter for the first time.

“What’s better?” Mia asks.

“Her aura. She is going to be okay.” Cami replies as she looks at her best friend with wonder and happiness.
