Volume 1 Chapter 9 - Farewell Beneath the Great Tree

Morning dew glistened like scattered gems on the forest leaves.

Soft rays of sunlight filtered through the ancient branches of the Elder Tree, painting golden patterns across the mossy ground.

The gentle wind carried the scent of blooming flowers — the forest was at peace again.

Cindy perched on a vine near the Elder Tree's roots, her newly evolved wings reflecting the morning light like stained glass. Puff sat beside her, nibbling on a tiny fruit, his silver fur gleaming faintly.

It had been a few days since they defeated the corrupted wolf. The forest healed quickly — new sprouts replacing wilted ones, and mana flowing freely again.

Yet Cindy's heart felt both light and heavy.

She looked up at the towering Elder Tree, whose enormous trunk reached high into the clouds.

"I guess... it's almost time," she whispered.

The Elder's Blessing

The ground hummed softly, and a familiar, ancient voice resonated through the roots and leaves.

"You have grown strong, little butterfly."

Cindy smiled warmly. "Elder Tree, it's because of you. You taught me so much... about this world, about mana, and about myself."

The great tree's branches swayed gently, like a slow nod.

"You were reborn fragile, yet your spirit carried courage greater than many. You protected this grove not as a warrior, but as one who understands life's value."

The words washed over her like a warm embrace.

Cindy bowed slightly in the air. "I just... didn't want to see anything else suffer."

Puff squeaked proudly beside her, as if to say, me too!

The Elder Tree's chuckle echoed like rustling leaves.

"Indeed. And because of that heart, the winds favor you, and the earth listens to your companion. You both are ready to see the wider world."

Cindy tilted her head. "Ready? You mean... leave the grove?"

"Yes, child. The forest no longer needs guarding. The corruption will not return for a long while. Beyond these woods, the world of humans, spirits, and beasts awaits. You will find danger—but also purpose."

Cindy's wings drooped slightly. She had known this was coming, yet hearing it still made her chest ache.

"This grove has been our home. I don't know if I'm ready to leave it."

"Home," the Elder Tree whispered, "is not only a place. It is the warmth you carry wherever you go."

The words sank deep into Cindy's heart. She looked down at Puff, who met her gaze and nodded softly.

She smiled, her eyes shimmering. "You're right, Elder Tree. I want to see more of this world. I want to learn... and help, if I can."

The Gift of Parting

The Elder Tree's roots glowed faintly, and a seed — round and golden — sprouted from the earth before them.

"Then take this. A seed of my essence. Should you find a land wounded by darkness, plant it. It will call forth life once more."

Cindy fluttered forward, landing on the seed gently. "I'll treasure it. Thank you."

"You have already given this forest more than you know, child of wind. Let your wings carry hope wherever they go."

A breeze swirled through the clearing — soft, yet filled with power. It circled Cindy and Puff like a blessing.

The petals lifted into the air, shimmering around them in a slow spiral of light.

Puff stood tall, his silver horn glowing faintly in response. Cindy could feel it — the Elder Tree's mana, warm and ancient, flowing through her wings.

"Go, little ones," the Elder Tree murmured. "The world awaits your flutter and your courage."

The First Step Beyond

Cindy turned one last time to look at the grove. Every leaf seemed to shimmer with life, every flower nodding gently in the breeze.

She whispered softly, "Goodbye... and thank you for everything."

Puff gave a little hop and squeak of farewell.

Then, spreading her brilliant wings wide, Cindy took to the air. The wind responded instantly, lifting her higher, carrying her above the canopy.

From above, the forest stretched endlessly beneath her — a sea of green dotted with rivers and meadows. Far to the horizon, mountains shimmered, and faint lights marked the distant realm of humans.

Her heart fluttered with awe. "It's so big... so beautiful..."

Puff bounded from rock to rock below, following her shadow with cheerful energy.

The wind wrapped around them both, playful and warm, as if promising to watch over their journey.

Cindy laughed softly. "Let's go, Puff. Our adventure begins now."

The silver hare squeaked in agreement, and together, the two companions disappeared beyond the grove — toward a world full of mystery, magic, and endless skies.
