Volume 1 Chapter 15 - Festival of the Wind
The morning after the battle, Windrest Village glowed brighter than ever.
The skies were clear, the windmills spun gracefully, and laughter filled the air as villagers busied themselves preparing decorations and tables.
Word spread quickly — how the Butterfly Spirit and the Silver Hare had saved Windrest from a band of fifty marauders in the dead of night.
Cindy watched from atop the windmill as colorful ribbons fluttered in the morning breeze. The villagers moved like a sea of cheerful motion below — hammering, sweeping, hanging garlands of flowers across the streets.
She smiled softly. "They're really doing all this... for us?"
From beside her, Puff — now taller and more majestic in his new Verdant Silver Hare form — flicked his ears proudly.
"Of course they are," his voice echoed warmly through their telepathic link. "We're heroes, remember?"
Cindy giggled. "Heroes? That still feels strange to hear."
Puff grinned mentally. "You'll get used to it."

Windrest's Gratitude
By noon, the entire village had gathered in the square. A long table was set with freshly baked bread, roasted vegetables, and fruits from nearby orchards. Children ran about with wooden wind chimes, their laughter blending with the gentle hum of the wind.
The elder stood at the center, leaning on his staff. His eyes glowed with pride and warmth.
"Citizens of Windrest!" he called, voice carrying across the square. "Last night, we were tested — and because of these two, we stand unbroken!"
He turned toward Cindy and Puff, who hovered and sat at his side. "Let us give thanks to our protectors — the Spirit of the Tempest Sky and the Verdant Silver Hare!"
The villagers cheered loudly, their voices rising like music.
Cindy's wings glowed faintly, a bit embarrassed but deeply moved. "Ah, you don't have to—"
But before she could finish, a group of children ran up, each holding a garland of wildflowers.
"For Miss Butterfly!" said one, placing a wreath gently around her.
"And for Mister Puff!" another giggled, setting a smaller one on Puff's head.
Puff puffed out his chest proudly. "I look good in flowers," he said telepathically, and Cindy nearly burst out laughing.

A Feast and Friendship
As the celebration began, villagers approached one by one to thank them.
Farmers brought baskets of fruit and grain.
The blacksmith offered to craft them protective charms.
The herbalist Mira gave Cindy a pouch of glowing blue herbs.
"These help with mana recovery," Mira explained. "For the hero who commands the wind."
Cindy accepted it with a grateful smile. "Thank you. But truly, I'm just happy everyone's safe."
Later that afternoon, the feast began.
Cindy sat on a windowsill, watching as people ate, danced, and sang. The soft strumming of a lute filled the air, and the rhythm of drums followed the heartbeat of the wind.
Puff hopped onto the table and nibbled contentedly on roasted carrots. "Cindy, I think I'm in heaven."
Cindy laughed, eyes soft. "You said that the first time you saw a carrot patch."
"Yes, but this is heaven with seasoning."

A Heartfelt Moment
As the sun began to set, painting the sky in crimson and gold, the elder approached Cindy once more.
"You've done much for us, child of the wind," he said kindly. "But tell me... what is it you seek in this world?"
Cindy looked down for a moment, thoughtful.
"I'm not sure yet," she admitted. "I was... someone else before this life. Someone who tried to help others, even when it hurt. I think that part of me hasn't changed."
She looked toward the horizon, where the fields danced under the fading sun. "Maybe I'll keep traveling — to see what else this world holds, to help where I can."
The elder nodded, smiling. "Then may the winds guide your wings wherever you go."
He lifted his hand, and the villagers released hundreds of small wind lanterns into the air.
Cindy and Puff watched as they rose — glowing softly like stars against the twilight.
"Beautiful..." Cindy whispered.
"Yeah," Puff replied, his telepathic voice gentle. "It feels like they're thanking us with the sky itself."
?
Blessings of the Wind
The wind suddenly picked up, swirling gently around Cindy's wings.
Soft golden motes of light formed before her — the familiar shimmer of the system interface.

Cindy smiled in wonder. "Even the wind... is celebrating with us."
Puff flicked his ears. "Guess we really are part of this world now."
As the last lanterns floated upward, Cindy looked around the peaceful village — laughter echoing, music still playing softly — and her heart swelled with warmth.
She turned to Puff. "Let's remember this day, okay? Not as fighters, but as friends."
Puff nodded. "Always."
The wind danced around them once more — soft, tender, and free — carrying the scent of flowers and joy into the starlit night.
