Volume 1 Chapter 26 - The Wind That Heals
Morning sunlight poured over the rooftops of Velna, turning the dew on cobblestones into scattered diamonds.
Merchants opened their stalls, laughter and chatter filling the streets as children chased a stray dog near the fountain.
Cindy sat by a fruit cart, sipping warm milk from a wooden cup.
Her small hood hid her delicate wings, but her eyes sparkled with quiet joy as she watched the town wake up.
Puff, sitting beside her on the crate, swung his little legs idly. "Kinda cozy, huh?"
Cindy smiled. "Yeah. For once, it feels like... we belong."
?
The Incident
The peaceful hum shattered with a scream.
"Somebody! Help! An adventurer collapsed!"
People rushed toward the square.
Cindy's head snapped up instantly, instincts honed from her days as a nurse taking over before she could think.
Without a word, she ran.
In the middle of the cobblestone plaza lay a young man in torn armor, blood soaking through his sleeve. His face was pale, breaths shallow.
A merchant hovered nearby in panic. "He just— fell! He said something about monsters from the north ridge— then fainted!"
Cindy's hands trembled.
Her heart pounded, and for a brief second, she saw another image — white hospital walls, the beeping of a monitor, her own voice shouting for a stretcher.
"Step back," she said softly. "Please."
The crowd hesitated, murmuring. She knelt beside the man, pulling back her hood slightly.
?
The Nurse Within
"Puff," she whispered. "Cover me."
The small humanoid hare nodded and moved in front of her, spreading his small arms as if shielding her from view.
Cindy placed her hands over the man's chest. Her palms glowed faintly as she whispered, "Gentle Breeze."
The wind stirred — softly at first, then wrapping the man in a shimmering current of light.
Dust rose in tiny spirals as the magic seeped into his wounds, closing gashes and steadying his breathing.
The crowd fell silent.
The man's color slowly returned, his breaths deepening.
Cindy smiled faintly. "You're okay now..."
But as the light faded, a familiar chime echoed.

And another sound — softer, deeper.
[Title Resonance Activated: Healer of Winds]
The Wind answers your compassion.
A swirl of pale blue petals lifted around her like dancing feathers.
?
Recognition
Gasps spread through the crowd.
"The wind... it's glowing."
"She's... she's healing him with magic?"
"Wait— that light! That's the butterfly spirit's aura!"
Cindy froze. Her hood slipped further, and a glimpse of her luminous wings shimmered under the morning light.
Her heart skipped.
For a moment, fear gripped her — the same fear of being hunted, misunderstood, captured.
But then she looked down at the man's face — alive, breathing, safe.
And she knew she wouldn't have done anything differently.
Puff reached for her hand gently. "Cindy..."
She looked around at the wide-eyed villagers and took a deep breath.
"I'm not a spirit," she said softly. "Just... someone who wants to help."
?
The Grateful Stranger
The man stirred, blinking weakly. "You... saved me?"
Cindy smiled. "Don't move too much. You lost a lot of blood."
He stared at her in disbelief. "The wind... it carried warmth. I thought I was dying, but then—"
Puff interrupted with a grin. "You're fine now. My mom's the best healer around."
Cindy blinked. "Puff!"
The man chuckled faintly. "Then I owe your 'mom' my life."
Cindy laughed softly, embarrassed, and shook her head. "Just rest. You're safe now."
?
The Wind's Blessing
The townsfolk's expressions slowly shifted from shock... to awe.
A child whispered, "She made him better..."
Then another voice: "Maybe she's not a curse... maybe she's a blessing."
The crowd parted, not with fear, but reverence.
The same baker woman from before placed a hand on Cindy's shoulder. "Thank you, dear. Whatever you are... thank you."
Cindy's chest tightened, her eyes glistening. "I'm just... doing what I can."
The wind stirred again, lifting strands of her hair — gentle, approving, alive.

Aftermath
Later that day, as the sun began to set, Cindy and Puff sat on the hillside overlooking Velna.
The breeze was warm, carrying laughter and music from the town below.
Puff looked up at her. "So much for keeping a low profile."
Cindy smiled faintly. "Yeah... I guess I'm not very good at hiding."
He tilted his small head. "Do you regret it?"
She looked at her hands — the same hands that once tended to human lives in another world.
"Not for a second," she whispered.

The sun dipped behind the mountains, and fireflies began to glow in the meadow.
Cindy stood, spreading her small luminous wings as the wind rose gently to greet her.
"Let's keep moving forward," she said softly. "Even if the world watches... I'll heal whoever needs me."
Puff smiled. "Then let's make sure they remember the butterfly who saved lives, not the monster they feared."
Cindy laughed lightly, the sound carrying on the wind like a melody.
Above them, the sky shimmered — the winds of this world whispering their thanks.
