Volume 1 Chapter 32 - City of Silver Wings

The city of Aelbourne shimmered beneath the morning sun — a jewel of white stone and blue banners nestled within golden plains.

Its towers rose like spears of light, connected by bridges that glowed faintly with mana veins, and airships drifted lazily between them like silver birds.

Cindy and Puff stood before the massive gate, blending seamlessly among the crowd of adventurers and merchants waiting to enter.

For the first time since awakening in this world, Cindy looked entirely human — her wings hidden, her aura suppressed by her new Transformation skill.

She wore a light traveling cloak, a simple tunic, and boots she'd bought from passing traders.

Her silver hair glimmered in the sunlight, drawing a few admiring glances despite her attempt to stay unnoticed.

Beside her, Puff trotted confidently, now disguised as a small, blue-haired child with faint animal-like ears — the perfect image of a magical familiar.

"Remember," Cindy whispered, "don't talk too much. Familiars aren't supposed to argue with their masters."

Puff smirked. "Oh? And what if my master is wrong?"

She gave him a playful look. "Then my familiar will go hungry tonight."

He crossed his arms. "Point taken."

The Gate of Aelbourne

The guards at the gate wore polished armor etched with faint runes that glowed blue when touched by magic.

Each traveler stepped forward, placing their hand on a crystal slab for inspection. The crystal shimmered faintly — checking for curses, illusions, or demonic energy.

Cindy took a quiet breath and stepped forward. Her hand touched the slab — cool, smooth, humming softly.

[System: Transformation Aura Stable.]

[No irregular mana detected.]

The crystal glowed a calm green.

The guard nodded approvingly. "All clear, miss. Welcome to Aelbourne."

Then he tilted his head toward Puff. "And this little one?"

Cindy smiled politely. "My familiar."

Puff bowed with exaggerated grace. "At your service."

The guard chuckled. "Well-behaved one, isn't he? You're lucky."

"Oh, you have no idea," Cindy said under her breath.

They passed through the gate as the wind brushed softly against her cloak — carrying with it the scents of spice, steel, and mana.

The Heart of the Capital

Inside, the world exploded with color and life.

The streets were lined with stalls selling glowing fruits, enchanted fabrics, and potions that fizzed like starlight.

Magical carriages rolled by, drawn by shimmering beasts.

Children chased floating light orbs, laughing as they danced through the air.

Cindy's eyes widened in awe. "It's... beautiful."

Puff grinned. "Now this is civilization!"

They wandered through the main square — Silverwind Plaza, where a massive fountain stood at its center. The water didn't fall — it spiraled upward, forming wings made of mist.

Cindy couldn't look away. The sculpture depicted a goddess of wind, her wings outstretched protectively over the city.

Puff noticed her expression. "Looks familiar, doesn't it?"

Cindy smiled softly. "Maybe just coincidence."

But deep inside, something stirred — a faint hum, the same resonance she'd felt in the ruins of Soleris.

?

Exploring the Market District

They moved deeper into the Market District, where adventurers haggled for gear and travelers filled the inns.

Cindy stopped at a potion stall, examining a vial of liquid light.

The shopkeeper — a cheerful woman with goggles — noticed her curiosity. "You new around here?"

"Yes," Cindy replied with a polite smile. "Just arrived today."

"Well, welcome! That's a minor light potion. Good for caves or late-night reading. Won't help if you get bitten by a slime, though," the woman joked.

Puff tugged on Cindy's sleeve. "Ask about snacks."

She sighed. "Later, Puff."

They continued walking, passing blacksmiths hammering enchanted blades, mages trading spell scrolls, and even a tamer offering wyvern eggs for auction.

For Cindy, it was overwhelming — and wonderful.

She had treated people once as a nurse in her old world, but now she walked among warriors, wizards, and adventurers in a living world of magic.

?

Rest at the Fountain

As the afternoon sun dipped lower, Cindy sat on the fountain's edge, taking a sip of water from her flask.

Puff munched happily on a skewer of grilled fruit. "So... what's next, Master Cindy?"

She giggled. "Don't call me that."

He smirked. "Fine. Lady Butterfly?"

"Even worse."

She looked around, her eyes soft. "Next, we find the Adventurer's Guild. I want to learn how things work here — how people live, what dangers exist, how I can help."

Puff swallowed the last of his snack. "You sound like your nurse self again."

Cindy smiled faintly. "Maybe that part of me never left."

?

Nightfall over Aelbourne

As twilight descended, lanterns lit up across the city — glowing softly with stored mana.

The wind carried laughter, music, and the distant hum of airships docking for the night.

Cindy leaned against the railing overlooking the lower district. "It feels alive — like the whole city breathes."

Puff nodded. "Yeah. And now, we finally have a place to belong."

Cindy smiled, her eyes reflecting the stars. "For now."
