Volume 3 Chapter 2 - The Tide of Undra
The world burned.
From the mouth of Mount Valgon, the corrupted flame spilled outward in rivers of molten destruction. Trees turned to ash before the fire even touched them, and the clouds themselves glowed a sinister red.
At the heart of this inferno stood Cindy and Puff, the wind swirling violently around them, their forms glowing with spirit light. Above, the massive, radiant silhouette of Undra, the Primordial Water Spirit, loomed like a moving ocean given form.
"The corruption has spread deep," Undra's voice rumbled, echoing through the sky like the crashing of waves.
"This fragment carries the hatred of ages."
Cindy's butterfly wings shimmered as she raised her staff, wind and water mana weaving together around her in spiraling currents. "Then we'll cleanse it," she said. "We can't let Ignis's rage consume the world."
?
The Battle of Fire and Water
The corrupted fragment emerged fully from the volcano — a serpent of flame and magma, its body stretching across the sky. It hissed, molten eyes burning with madness.
"You... wind and water... you defy me?"
The fire serpent reared back and spewed a torrent of molten flame.
Cindy thrust her staff forward, shouting, "Tempest Barrier!"
A spiraling wall of wind formed before her, deflecting the fire — but barely. The sheer force of the serpent's attack cracked the earth, and the air burned with heat.
"Puff, flank left!" she commanded.
"On it!" The hare warrior dashed forward, his armor gleaming. He leapt from stone to stone, slashing through the smaller flame creatures spilling from the serpent's body. His sword glowed blue, infused with water mana from Undra's blessing. Each strike extinguished waves of corrupted embers.
Meanwhile, Undra raised one of its colossal flippers, summoning a tidal wave that towered above the mountain.
"Tide of Purification!"
The wave crashed down, swallowing the serpent in roaring foam. Steam exploded into the air, and for a moment, it seemed the fire would die.
But then, the serpent roared again — louder, stronger.
"I AM FIRE! I DO NOT DIE!"
The magma beneath the mountain erupted in answer, pushing back Undra's waters. Lava veins split across the valley, glowing like molten scars.
Cindy gritted her teeth. "He's drawing mana from the planet's core! It's endless!"
?
Awakening of the Stormheart
Cindy's wings flared open, radiant blue and gold. The wind screamed around her, forming a vortex that reached the heavens.
"Spirit of Air... lend me strength..."
Her body shone with light as a system window appeared before her:
[New Skill Unlocked: Spirit Convergence – Stormheart Manifestation]
Fuse with elemental mana to invoke temporary spirit form.
"Let's finish this!" she cried.
Her form lifted into the air, merging with streams of wind and water mana from Undra. Her hair glowed like silver mist, her eyes shining with ethereal light. For a brief moment, Cindy's presence rivaled even that of a lesser spirit.
She pointed her staff at the flaming serpent. "Tempest Torrent!"
A massive spiral of wind and water shot forward, tearing through the serpent's chest. Steam exploded outward as its molten scales shattered.
Undra's voice thundered above her.
"NOW, CHILD OF WIND — STRIKE ITS CORE!"
?
The Core of Corruption
Through the explosion of steam and ash, Cindy saw it — a burning orb embedded in the serpent's chest, pulsing with corrupted fire. The Fragment Core of Ignis.
She flew forward, wings blazing, and thrust her staff into the core.
"Spirit Seal: Azure Gale!"
The orb cracked — but resisted, burning her hands. Pain seared through her arms, and the serpent shrieked, its flames flaring violently.
Puff leapt onto its back, driving his blade deep into its neck. "Cindy! Now!"
She screamed, forcing more mana into the seal. The winds howled, and the light of Undra enveloped her.
"Be still, corrupted flame — and sleep once more!"
The serpent let out one final, ear-splitting roar before its body collapsed, molten fire turning to harmless mist. The core shattered, its fragments scattering into glowing embers that fell gently to the ground like fireflies.
?
Aftermath
Silence.
Only the sound of water dripping from Undra's form filled the air.
The great spirit lowered its colossal head to face Cindy, who now floated weakly above the scorched land, her wings dimming. Puff caught her as she began to fall.
Undra's eyes glowed softly.
"Well done, Child of Wind... and faithful hare. You have cleansed the fragment. Yet this is only the beginning."
Cindy looked up, exhausted but determined. "You mean... there are more?"
"Indeed. The fire was divided long ago. Each fragment holds a piece of Ignis's wrath. When all awaken, the true Primordial Fire will rise once more."
Cindy's hand clenched weakly around her staff. "Then we'll stop them all."
Undra's massive form began to fade, returning to the spirit realm.
"When the tide calls again, I shall return. Until then, wind and water must stand together."
And with a final rumble like the retreating ocean, the spirit vanished, leaving the air calm — but heavy with warning.
Cindy and Puff stood amid the cooled battlefield, steam curling around them. The once-scorched earth was now blanketed in a thin film of shimmering blue mist — the Tears of Undra, a mark of purification.
Puff glanced at the horizon. "Think this is over?"
Cindy looked west, where faint embers still glowed beneath the horizon.
"No," she said softly. "This was only one flame among many."
