Chapter 34Cain

Chapter Thirty-Four

CAIN

I don’t know what I expected her to tell me, but it wasn’t that. I never want to hear my girl tell me she was assaulted ever again. I thought the rage I felt when I found out someone had broken into her place was bad, but that doesn’t even come close to what I feel right now. She doesn’t need to know this, but Scotch will be giving me that sick fuck’s address. There’s only one place in this world for child molesters, and that’s six feet under.

I watch as Evan climbs out of the bath before I wrap one of her big fluffy black towels around her—the kind I’m sure are in all the fancy hotels.

I love that she’s creating her own little slice of paradise. She might be a little slower to finish the house, but no corners will be cut. The more I’m around her, the more I want a spot in that little slice of paradise. I think that’s why I jumped on Hash wanting to fix the drywall. I want a part in creating that.

It’s just a bonus that she’s been living next door to me this entire time. Hell, I should have come over and asked for a cup of sugar months ago. I could have had this sweet piece in my life already. Dick bombs and all.

“What are you over there smirking about?” Evan asks while looking at me like I’m a little crazy as she dries herself off before slipping on an oversized tee that hits mid-thigh. She would look sexy as fuck in my tee. I need to remember to bring some over.

“Nothing, hellcat.” I smile softly at her. “Do you need to do anything else, or are you ready for bed?”

“I’m ready for bed,” she says before pulling the fluffy teal duvet back. If the guys could see me sleeping in this bed, they would be laughing their asses off. I’d never hear the end of it. “You ready for the meeting tomorrow?”

I knew this was bothering her. “Yeah.” I tuck my arm around her and pull her flush against my side, tucking her in. “I texted Hash to tell the guys we’re having church first thing in the morning. I want to go over the game plan with them. Figure out where I want everyone.”

“That will be good.” She lets out the cutest fucking yawn before nestling into my chest. “I just hope Storm doesn’t do anything stupid.”

“Me either, babe. But we’ll be ready if he does. I promise you that.” Her breathing has evened out, and I can tell she didn’t hear a word I said.

There’s nothing else I can do for the night, so I hug my girl a little tighter and pass out along with her.
