Chapter 10

Later that night in the hotel room, we left the curtains open to the silver glow of the moon. It painted the contours of Sarah’s curves, highlighting her exquisite peaks and valleys that rivaled the mountain splendor we’d seen earlier today.

“God, Sarah, you are so wet for me,” I rasped as I sank into her depths inch by inch. Her back arched as she received me, hips finding a rhythm against my thrusts.

The volume of her moans rose as my speed and depth intensified. But I wasn’t ready for her to lose control yet. I wanted us to do it together. Needed it to be us together.

I leaned down, resting my weight on top of her, slowing my motion.

My decision was met with a soft whimper. “I’m so close, James…”

My teeth nipped her earlobe before I whispered, "No, wait for me, baby."

"I'm trying..." She groaned as I began to thrust again, deeper, faster.

“Oh, fuck, Sarah…” My arms wrapped around her as her pussy clenched my throbbing cock. I wouldn’t be long, but I still needed her to hold back.

As her hips picked up their rhythm, I admonished her again, “Wait for me.”

She made this so difficult, the way she writhed against me, desperation driving the movement of her hips and her hands roaming across my back, down to my ass, squeezing me as if she could take me even deeper. I was as deep as I could go, and my balls ached with my need for release.

I just wanted to savor every single moment until we both tumbled over the edge together. I didn’t know why it was so important, but it was, and I could tell she had taken up the mantle as well. She wanted this as much as I did.

And then, it was time. The moment neither of us could hold back any longer.

She began to shudder beneath me as I whispered, "Now, baby, come with me.”

Those spasms carried me over the edge as I rocked back and forth on the pendulum between pleasure and ecstasy.

I stayed there, collapsed on top of her until my cock was so sensitive, I had to pull it out. She giggled, something about my seed dripping out of her. But I didn’t want to lose the solemnity of the moment, sealing the promise we made to each other today.

She’d held my hand, with spires of red rocks reaching toward the heavens as our witnesses, and said, “My very wise mother once told me, ‘Love is that condition wherein another person’s happiness is essential to your own.’ I want to make you happy, James—because your happiness is my happiness. I promise to never stop trying.”

I’d wrapped my arms around her and thought about letting my lips seal my promise on my behalf, but Sarah loved words as much as she loved kisses, and she needed both.

So, I stroked my hand down her cheek and said, “I promise to always be honest with you, Sarah. And I will never let you wonder how I feel about you. You drive me absolutely wild. You’re a goddess, and you wanna hang out with a simple-minded soldier like me? It’s mind-blowing, really.”

“You’re definitely not simple-minded, and you’re so much more than a soldier, James.” She’d laughed softly and squeezed my cheek.

“Doubt anything else about me will matter once I get to Afghanistan.” I sighed, watching the sun sink lower, ready to spill its blood all over the mountains. “I’m gonna miss you so much, Sarah.”

“I’m going to miss you too.” She blinked, fighting more tears.

I pressed a soft kiss to her lips. “I want to make you another promise, Dr. Sarah Lynde.”

“And what’s that, Lieutenant James McAllister?”

“I’ll come back to you. And before you know it, we’ll be climbing mountains together again.”
