Azeira
“I’m quitting Elite,” I confessed to Jatavia as we sat outside on her back patio.
Using her hand to shield her eyes from the sun, she glanced over at me with confusion on her face. “Why the hell would you do that?”
I sighed. “Besides the fact that I haven’t been able to work in months, I’m just not feeling it anymore.” I shrugged.
This time she sat up and turned her body to face me. “Does this have something to do with Kairus? Is he forcing you to do this?”
I shook my head. “No, this has nothing to do with him. I told you I’m just not feeling it. I saved up a good nest egg to get me by while I find something else. I needed to focus on getting back in school anyway, not dates.”
“But how are you gonna pay for school without Elite? I thought that was one of the main reasons you were doing it.”
Again I sighed. “It was, but I don’t know I just don’t want to date random men anymore. Even if it is fake.”
I had already paid for next semester when I paid for this one, which was a waste since I didn’t even finish it. I needed to figure out what my next move would be. There was only a month left of school when I was taken then finals. Since I didn’t get to finish, I didn’t know what was next for me. My life was so up in the air right now. I didn’t know if I was coming or going.
“Are you sure it’s not because of Kairus? I did some asking around about him, , and he’s a terrible guy. I heard he doesn’t hesitate to kill someone if they’re off by a dollar when it comes to paying back the money he’s owed. I don’t know how you got him to agree to keep you until your dad pays him back, but I think you should be more guarded. I mean, look at that guy with you, he’s scary as hell.” Her nose scrunched.
Crusher was my personal driver today. After visiting Jatavia I would go by my parents’ house. Thankfully Kairus had somewhat loosened the reins on me. He allowed me to visit my parents and best friend.
“He’s not that bad,” I defended.
Jatavia cut her eyes at me causing me to squirm.
“I’m serious! Kairus is just…misunderstood.” I bit into my bottom lip and avoided her eyes. I knew it didn’t make sense to her, and I wouldn’t betray Kairus’s trust by revealing his secrets, but I didn’t like the way Jatavia spoke about him.
“Are you kidding me? The guy is crazy! He needs to be in jail if I’m being honest.”
“Don’t say that.” I sat up straight and raked my fingers through my hair. A tightness formed in my chest at the thought. While I knew her words weren’t wrong, I tried to block out that part of Kairus. “Look, I know Kairus has his flaws, but he’s been through a lot. He just lives his life how he was raised. Once you get to know him he’s not that bad.”
Jatavia looked at me like I had grown two heads. “His ass done brainwashed you, hasn’t he?” Her brows furrowed. “It’s the dick, isn’t it?” She cocked her head to the side.
I snickered and waved her off. “No. I just… I understand him.” After Kairus made me stab my date that day I was sure I would never be able to accept him as he was. But after spending more time with him, noticing the little things he did to make me comfortable and the way he cared for me, I found myself growing fonder of him with each passing day.
“You’re trippin’.” She shook her head and leaned back in her seat. This time she grabbed her shades off the table between us and placed them on her face. “Just be careful, friend. I don’t want you to become his next victim. I’ll cut his ass.”
I choked out a laugh. “I’m good. There’s nothing to worry about.” Licking my lips, I sat back. “Now tell me what’s new with you. How’s Elite been?”
“Bye, Mommy. I’ll see you later.” I kissed my mom’s forehead and slowly backed out of the room. She had started her second round of chemo and had an appointment earlier today. The good thing was she only had to do a handful of treatments then she would be done. Her doctor was optimistic when it came to the results of the surgery.
Leaving the door cracked behind me, I prepared to leave when my dad came out of his office, surprising me by requesting I come and talk to him. He had managed to avoid me the whole time I was here. I didn’t think he was going to speak to me at all.
My dad walked around his desk and took a seat. I stayed standing by the door.
“Mom said the doctor said everything looks promising,” I started, attempting to clear the air.
While I’d always been closer to my mom, me and my dad always got along well too. He was my protector growing up and a wonderful provider. He treated me and my mom like queens and always showed up when it mattered. I hated the space the two of us were in currently.
“Yes. After these couple rounds of chemo he’s hopeful she’ll be cancer-free.”
I couldn’t help but grin. “Good.”
An awkward silence filled the room. It was never like this with us. The worst part was I doubted things with us would ever be the same. Not after he learned that I had been intimate with Kairus.
“I’ve almost got all the money to pay my debt.” His words caused me to snap my attention back to him.
“What?” I questioned with wide eyes. “How?”
It had only been a little over three months, I wasn’t sure how my dad managed to get a hundred thousand dollars so quickly.
He straightened in his seat. “The how doesn’t matter. In a couple more weeks I’ll have it all then you’ll be back home and away from that man.” Venom dripped from his voice as he spoke.
“I…” My mouth snapped closed. I wasn’t sure how I felt about my dad paying Kairus back. I mean, theoretically, I should be happy. I would gain my freedom back and be able to get on with my life. Go back to normal. Why did the thought of that make my chest ache and my stomach drop?
My dad squinted. “Are you not happy?”
Still tongue tied, I nodded and blinked slowly. My dad sighed and folded his hands on his desk.
“Look, I know the reason you’re in this situation is because of me and I hate that I got you caught up in my mess.” For the first time in a long time I saw regret in my dad’s eyes. “I’m sure you did what you had to do to make life bearable there.” His voice was now toneless. “Still, I’m working on making this right. Once I pay this debt back you won’t have to worry about that man ever again.”
Swallowing hard, I brought my bottom lip between my teeth.
“You didn’t do anything that’s gonna get you in trouble for the money, did you?” My dad had always been honorable. I knew he was desperate when it came to taking care of my mom and the household.
His eyes hardened. “I did what needed to be done.” Those words didn’t bring me comfort. My stomach churned and the lump in my throat grew.
“I should go,” I whispered, unable to form anything else.
He sighed. Defeat was written all over his face. “Just hang in there a little bit longer, okay? I’ma fix this.”
Stiffly, I nodded and gave him a tight smile.
“Love you, .”
Guilt filled me. “Love you too, Daddy.”
I left the room and leaned against the door after shutting it. My head dropped and I closed my eyes. I was torn. Going back to my life should bring me joy, but the thought of not being with Kairus anymore caused an empty feeling inside of me.
I snuggled under the throw blanket in the cozy chair in the library, sipping out of my teacup and reading a mystery I came across. The air was on full blast today, thanks to Lillian. I was sure she did it to spite me since I mentioned how I hated the cold. I had made a nice dent in the books here. There were a bunch of different genres and I found myself wanting to explore them all.
I was so lost in the book I was reading that the library doors being pushed open suddenly caused me to jump and drop the teacup. My eyes bucked looking down, noticing it had chipped. Flicking my attention up, I watched Kairus’s eyes wildly move around the room before landing on me.
“Kair—”
“Who told you to come in here!” he spat hurriedly.
“No one I—”
“This room’s off limits for a reason.”
My heart pounded so loudly I wondered if he could hear it. Swallowing hard, I lowered my book and slowly rose from the chair, moving the blanket off me.
“I stumbled in here one day and noticed the books. I didn’t think it would be an issue to read them,” I said in a small voice. My hands grew sweaty and my nerves were jerky. I was happy he was back, since I wasn’t expecting him until tomorrow, but I was also nervous. It had been awhile since I’d seen him like this.
His spine straightened and his eyes looked like two black holes. He stalked toward me, causing me to hold my breath and go still. “This room is off limits,” he growled.
“I—”
His hand went to my neck. “I didn’t show you this room for a reason.” I tucked my lips into my mouth. I didn’t want to say anything that would set him off.
“Who let you in here? Did you pick the lock?”
I shook my head quickly. “It was never locked,” I squeaked.
His eyes cut tighter and his nostrils flared.
I stumbled back when he pushed me, pressing my back against one of the bookshelves.
“Kairus, I didn’t know it was a big deal for me to be in here. I just saw the books and wanted to read, that’s it.” He scanned the room before his dark gaze landed back on me.
I didn’t know what the issue was with him and the library but now I wished I would have listened to Lillian when she told me not to come in here.
“You should have asked before coming in here.”
My breath was caught in my throat.
His hand on my neck tightened.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t think it was a big deal with me wanting to read.” I stared at him from under my lashes. He had my chin slightly tilted upward and his hand flexed around my neck.
“You didn’t see the big deal,” he gritted as his eyes darkened.
“I—” My mouth snapped shut when he pushed on my throat and moved his face closer to mine. His warm breath brushed across my face. My stomach stirred and I squirmed under him.
“Some things you don’t need to know. Don’t worry though, I’m about to teach you a lesson.”
I gasped when he reached for my shorts and yanked them down. I didn’t have any panties on under them.
“You’re walking around here while I’m gone with no panties on,” he growled. I jumped when he slapped my pussy and moaned.
He quickly worked himself out of his slacks. His dick stood at attention.
“Kairus, wait—” Before I could finish my sentence I was in the air and being lowered on his dick.
“Uh!” I moaned and my eyes rolled to the back of my head as he filled me. His strokes were rough and quick. I tried to speak, to tell him to slow down, but only moans escaped my mouth. The books shook around me as he pounded me into the shelves. One of my arms wrapped around his neck, while he held the other. He nuzzled his face into my neck and bit my skin.
“Beast,” I cried out, squeezing my pussy around him.
He pushed further into me. His tongue ran along my wound. The shelves dug into my back painfully, but I didn’t care. The pleasure Kairus was bringing me made the pain worth it.
“Who were you walking around with no panties for?” he grunted as he fucked me.
“You,” I whimpered.
“Lies! I wasn’t supposed to be here until tomorrow,” I whimpered when he shifted and found my spot. He abused it repeatedly, never letting up. Books fell around us, but neither of us cared. His body slapping against mine filled my ears along with my moans and his groans.
I tried to explain as my stomach tightened and my body quivered. My fingers sank into his back as I came. He squeezed my arm, fucking me through my orgasm.
“That’s it, give it all to me,” he murmured huskily, pumping in and out of me slower. He lowered his head and licked the side of my neck up to my ear. Beads of sweat from his face brushed across mine. It felt like lit fireworks exploded inside me as I came again.
Kairus moved us from the bookshelves back to where I was sitting. I whimpered when he lifted me off him and spun me around. My juices ran down my leg.
“Pick the book up,” he demanded; his dick pressed against my soaked entrance.
“What?” I strained to get out.
“Pick the book up.” He pushed inside me, just the tip. I went to push back on it, but he held me still.
“Kairus,” I pleaded.
“Pick it up!”
With shaky hands and heavy breaths, I slowly reached for the book. “Find the page where you left off.” More of him entered me.
I tried to concentrate, but it was hard with the lazy, teasing strokes he was giving me.
“Okay.”
“Now read it to me.” My eyes bucked when he pushed fully into me and pumped quicker. “Now.”
I wasn’t sure how he expected me to focus on anything but how he was fucking me, but I knew him. He was serious.
I swallowed hard and closed my eyes, taking a few deep shaky breaths, attempting to focus.
I picked up where I stopped once Kairus busted in the room. It was rough and a couple times he made me repeat the sentence when I stumbled. His strokes never lessened or ran off beat. It was sexy if I was being honest. Passion gushed up my spine. My body soared on a high like I had been dosed with the purest ecstasy money could buy.
Kairus grabbed me by the hair and pulled my head back. I dropped the book and squeezed my eyes shut.
“You did so good, now I’m gonna reward you,” he stated, his voice low and throaty.
I gripped the arm of the chair tightly feeling his dick swell inside me. My mouth parted and my eyes closed when I felt him release inside me. Clenching my walls, it wasn’t long before I was cumming with him.
Breathing heavily, my body sagged once he released me and pulled outta me. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Kairus because his moods seemed to change at the drop of a dime.
Neither of us spoke for a while, but I could hear him moving around behind me.
“This library belonged to my mother. She was sick and would come here for an escape.” I shot my eyes open and by the time I looked behind me he was gone. The last thing I expected was that confession. I didn’t know a lot about his mom, but his reaction made sense now. Suddenly I felt bad about coming in here as if I had contaminated some sacred space.
Slowly I rose from the chair and looked around. I couldn’t leave the room a mess like this, not after what I just learned.
It took a little bit for me to gather myself, but once I did, I cleaned up as much as I could and grabbed my shorts. Wincing at our mixed release sliding out of me, I bent down and picked the teacup up, examining it. There was a chip at the top, but it was still usable.
I left the library trying to decide if I wanted to go find Kairus or leave him be for now. His mom was something he didn’t really talk about, but it was easy to see the subject was off limits.
“I told you to stay outta that room. Maybe next time you’ll listen.” I glared at Lillian, not needing an “I told you so.” She headed for the front door, more than likely leaving for the day.
Deciding it would be best to give Kairus his space for now, I headed upstairs for my bedroom. I knew a conversation needed to be had. I just had to gather my thoughts before it happened.
