10. Ronnie
Ronnie
I woke up sore as hell. Nobody had ever put it on me that good before. When I got back home last night, it was after two in the morning. I didn’t even take a shower, just went straight to bed.
Now, I’m on my way to the studio with food for Sin.
After the night we had, I figured I’ll give us a try and see where it takes me.
I think he meant it when he said that he liked me.
I also got the information he needed for the dude.
I’m not sure what he needed the address for.
My guess is he probably already had it and lost it.
When I turned the corner, the first thing I spotted is a security guard standing at the door.
As I got closer, I knew somebody was inside recording.
The music could be heard from down the hall.
Balancing the food in one hand and my satchel in the other, I struggled to open the door.
The guard just stood there like a statue, as if he doesn’t see me fighting to hold everything up.
As soon as my hand touched the doorknob, it was pulled open.
“Shit!” I muttered, jumping back.
A head peeked around, and I noticed hazel eyes immediately.
“Damn. That’s my fault, Ms. Lady.” Reese’s axe cologne invaded my nose when he came to stand in front of me.
“You hurt?” He scanned my body for bruises, then turned toward the security dude with a frown.
“Why the fuck you ain’t help her,” he yelled at him.
I knew he was only concerned for me.
“I’m fine.” I balanced the bag on my shoulder. “Is Sin inside?”
“Uh, nah, he ain’t make it in yet. It’s just me recording.” Reese rubbed the back of his neck.
“Oh!” I looked down at the time. It was well past eight in the morning. Even though Sin didn’t give me a time to come by, I thought he’d be here by now.
“You can wait inside if you want to. I was finna send my driver for some food.” I got this for Sin, but ain’t no need for it to go to waste.
“I brought some. You can get this.”
“Nah, Ms. Lady. Ain’t that for Sincere?” he asked with his head tilted to the side. When I nodded, he added, “I’mma send my driver. It’s all good.”
I reached out to stop him before he could walk away.“I want you to have it, but I do wanna wait. If it ain’t no trouble.”
“Not at all.” He opened the door, letting me walk in first. The smell of smoke hit my nose immediately as I tried looking around the fog.
“Yeah, I had some weed this morning,” he admitted when he noticed me fanning the air. “I’m usually here by myself at this time of day. Sin doesn’t come until one.” Reese sat in the black leather chair at the mixer. “He told you to come this early?”
He sat back, spreading his legs to get more comfortable. He had on gray joggers, a plain black t-shirt, and Jordan slides. Real hood nigga shit.
“No, I just assumed he would be here. I thought rappers lived in the studio,” I joked and his smile lit up the room. “Some of us do.”
Reese turned around to face the equipment. “I’m working on something. Tell me what you think.”
The speakers drowned his voice out once the music began to play.
Crossing one leg over the other, I sat back to listen.
It sounded good, but what surprised me is that its not the typical stuff Reese usually rapped about, and Sin wasn’t on it.
The song played well over five minutes, and I was so into it that I wanted him to play it again.
“I didn’t know you could sing like that,” I observed once he lowered the volume. Twisting around, he relaxed his elbows on his knees.
“I do alright.” He tried to play it coolly. “Being signed to BCE, they know what they want you to sing and what they don’t.” He reached for the bag of food on the table.
“You know, legally they can’t...” I paused, seeing the smirk on his face.
“Why you looking at me like that?” I asked shyly, looking down at my hands.
“Once a lawyer, always a lawyer, huh?” he teased, digging into the Styrofoam container.
I held back a smile.
“Sorry, sometimes I can’t help it.” He looked at me with an amused look.
“Nah, do you,” he expressed, putting a spoonful of grits in his mouth. As he ate, I took out my phone to check for any messages. I know I have a few meetings to go to later with the owner of BCE, Beast. Other than that, I’ll probably have dinner with my best friend.
“You got this from JoJo’s Soul Food, didn’t you?” Reese’s voice brought me back to the present. It took a second for me to understand his question.
Once I got it, I giggled into my hand. “Yeah, I get that every morning on the way to work.”
He nodded in agreement. “Me too. That’s where I was sending the driver.”
“For real?” I smiled. Sitting my bag down, I took off my jacket. I’m not sure if it’s from the temperature in the room, but it’s getting a little hot in here.
“Hell yeah. The smothered pork chops be on point!” We shared a laugh.
“You got a pretty smile, Ms. Lady. You should do it more often.” I ran my eyes over his face while he watched me with a grin.
“Thank you.” I blushed like a schoolgirl.
Reese makes me feel uneasy, in a good way tho. His arm stretched out to grab a soda from the mini fridge. I watched him pop the top, then take a sip. My eyes zoomed in on his Adam’s apple as he swallowed.
Clearing my throat, I squeezed my legs closed. Ronnie, get it together!
“You got in touch with Sin yet?” My eyes widened.
“Uh, no. I ain’t even tell him I was waiting.” I went to pull up his number.
“No need. He’s already here.” Reese put the last scoop of food into his mouth then closed the container.
My eyebrows knitted together in confusion.
I was about to ask how Reese knew that until I heard laughing from behind the door.
A second later, he walked in with a group of people.
I gasped, seeing one girl on each side of him.
It ain’t even been twenty-four hours since we started talking, and Sin was already breaking my heart.
