Epilogue
PAXTON
“You may kiss your bride.” I leaned forward planting my lips on Yani’s sealing our marriage. The day had finally arrived after two years of us planning and going through our own chaos of life.
The twins were born, and our family was finally a blended one.
My people forgave her and welcomed her with open arms. I knew they would because of how they spoke about her during our time apart.
The only person who took their time coming around was Josiaha.
He felt like she didn’t suffer enough but they had the best relationship now.
“I love you, Paxton.” Her smile went from ear to ear.
“I love you too beautiful. You ready to jump this broom with me?”
“I been ready.”
We joined hands and took that leap. Our guests cheered for us giving us a round of applause. It was a joyous moment for us both. We both lost someone we thought we’d be able to do this with, but now that I did it with her, I didn’t care for anyone else, not even the past.
As we trailed down the aisle, our little one’s teetered behind us. Brendon held his sister’s hands as they made it down as well. We weren’t going on a private honeymoon. This was something we were doing as a family. I needed them by my side at all times.
“Baby are we really going to leave everyone to fend for themselves?” Yani asked as we hopped in the back of the limo.
“You damn right. They gon’ be eating, drinking, and dancing for free. What they need us there for?”
“Dad, I think Laura pooped.” Brendon handed her over with his face screwed-up.
It was a good thing we had all of our bags packed and placed in the limo. There was a diaper bag for both girls under the bar. I took her and began to change her diaper.
Brendon calling me dad was something he did on his own.
We were out at the county fair and when he introduced us to his friends, he claimed me then.
It warmed my heart because I knew how he felt about Trust and the bond they shared.
I never questioned him on it either. If that was what he felt comfortable with then I wasn’t going to change it.
“This was your idea, remember that.”
“Baby hush. We’ll have our time to vacation alone but this ain’t it. We just became one legally. This needed to be shared with all of us. Plus, we been cooped up in OKC for years. Let’s just have some time out the country. I’m just curious to see how they’re going to do on the jet.”
“Brendon will be fine, but those girls have your blood so…”
“What that mean?”
“Mrs. Henrietta told me how you were active as a child and how she always had to give your ass melatonin just to calm down.”
“Pure child abuse,” I said while shaking my head. “Anyway, they’ll be straight. I got snacks, tv’s, and all that other shit on there for them. The flight is like sixteen hours or something like that.”
“Sixteen? Paxton where are we going?”
“Dubai for two weeks and then Morocco for another. We won’t be home for about a month or so.”
“What are we supposed to do for a month?”
“When it comes to you, Brendon, Laura, and Lorielle, I’ll give y’all the world, so why not start there. I made a promise to keep y’all safe and happy. I can’t do that if y’all not with me. Therefore, I don’t give a fuck what we do, as long as we’re together.”
She never got her emotions under control after the girls. She still cried about everything. I just looked at her as her eyes carried so much love for me. I didn’t know I could be happy with someone who wasn’t Thalia, but meeting Yani made me realize I was happy with comfortability.
We were once in the same position just different timing. We found real love and happiness within a matter of weeks. I knew she wasn’t going anywhere, especially with me providing her with the security she longed for in a relationship.
The setback we experienced was our setup for this comeback that allowed us to love with no limitations. Where we started wasn’t how we were ending and for that I would forever love her.
