Chapter 23 #3

“Secret knock,” I reply and close the door.

“Follow me, stay behind,” Karl instructs and I nod. I’m letting him guide me since I have no idea what I’m doing, and Karl is our best chance of success. “Vimu?” Karl calls when he points a gun at him, I shoot him. He’s the spy. He has to be. One of Karl’s trusted.

“Sorry-”

“It’s ok, you did what I didn’t have the guts to,” Karl says and gestures for me to follow him. I can still see Vimu’s brown hair soaked in blood and pink matter coming out of his head. His brain…

Thud.

I look around while walking to the house's entry door. When Karl is standing at the front door, I hear a shot. A shot that hits Karl’s left leg. His muscles contract, but he opens the door and shoots his attacker in the head.

“Aim for the head, don’t hesitate,” Karl directs and I nod as we get out of the house and see our guards fighting each other, bodies falling to the ground.

The body count is rising by the minute. I look around and I don’t know who to shoot.

Karl gets me back inside. “New tactic, we stay near the office’s door and hold the fort. ”

“How do we know who to shoot?” I ask Karl, he does something on his phone before answering.

“Guards were warned they’ll be killed if they come near the house, only attackers will walk through that door, stay away from the windows!

” Karl exclaims positioning me behind one of the chairs of the living room.

“Hunker down, only peek to shoot,” Karl says and I nod, knowing I’m out of line and beyond lucky for being in action.

Karl must be desperate. And that is not a good sign.

I listen to the screams outside and shots and then it all stops. My phone buzzes and I look at it seeing Karl forwarded a message to me.

Kit: Enemies have been taken down and their leader is in the cave.

I don’t know who’s Kit, but Karl puts his gun down, still holding it, just not ready to shoot. “Should we trust him?” I ask Karl and he nods. “Are you sure?”

“He’s my son,” Karl says and I just nod going towards the office. I knock on the door, our usual four times knock in a certain rhythm and Maya opens it.

“Thank God you’re ok!” Maya exclaims hugging me. “Is everything-”

“Everything is fine. The attackers were taken down,” I say not revealing anything about Kit. The fact that he’s Karl’s son is a secret I think he hasn’t even told Dominik. “Karl was shot. Can you take him to the infirmary, Sammy?”

“He won’t let me, it better be you,” Sammy advises and I hug her briefly, before getting back to the office door.

“Stay with my father, please,” I request looking at Maya and Sammy, only leaving after both of them assented.

“Karl come on, let’s get you to the-”

“Don’t have time-,” he starts but is interrupted by Dominik’s car parking outside. I run and hug Dominik, before I ask for Aiden; Damian and Rian are already taking him to the infirmary.

“Are you hurt?” I ask Dominik checking his clothes for blood, and I find some near his collarbone.

“I’m fine, it’s not mine, ma Vie. How’s your father? Karl told me about everything,” Dominik says and only then do I notice Karl also heard the corrupt guard’s words.

“Karl had to knock him out, but I think there was no damage,” I say and Josh looks at me, “Can you take Dad to the infirmary just in case?”

“Why did you knock him out?” Josh asks but thankfully Sammy comes to the rescue.

“She had to. Come on, I’ll take you to him,” Sammy says and Josh moves with his nonchalant vibe that makes you want to hurt him, just so you can get a reaction from him.

“I don’t need an escort-”

“Too bad, you have one,” Sammy states entering the house with Josh beside her. Dominik touches my hand, my right hand, a gun falls to the ground from my left hand. Why was I still holding it?

“What’s the gun for?” Dominik asks, lifting my chin with his hand so that I’m facing him.

“My father was in danger, I didn’t have a choice,” I say and stop when Dominik falls to one knee. “Let’s get you inside. You need to rest.”

“I got him!” Marcus exclaims, putting Dominik’s arm around his shoulder supporting most of Dominik’s weight.

Marcus is a big puff guy so it’s no struggle.

I follow them and thank Marcus when he helps Dominik sit on our room’s bed.

Marcus lets me inside and closes the door behind him when walking out.

“Are you ok?” I ask Dominik, he doesn’t reply. “Should I call a doctor?”

“I’m fine. I just don’t understand... how did I let this happen?-”

“You can’t foresee and control everything. That’s impossible. And no one died. You saved Aiden, and Karl is just hurt on his leg,” I say having no clue of the severity of Aiden’s and Karl’s injuries.

“I hope you’re right,” Dominik says tapping his finger on the bed beneath him.

“Want a bath?” I ask moving to the bathroom to turn on the air conditioner, clueless about what to do.

“I got it,” Dominik says and I let him pass by my side, tapping on his leg and closing the bathroom door behind him. “Tell me if you need anything,” I scream at the door to no response.
