A Song

Hobbled for the Holidays

By Knox Hartley

This Christmas I asked Santa for someone sweet

And full of spice

Instead I’m stuck in a hotel suite

With my ankle packed in ice

Verse 2

It was a sled, red and bright

Made for Christmas wishes

And flying downhill on a wintry night

Hoping for Christmas kisses

Chorus

Instead I’m hobbled for the holidays

Paying for my lovesick haze

Wondering what Santa has against a cowboy

Asking for a little Christmas joy

Now everyone but me is rocking

Around the Christmas stocking

Drinking eggnog and making merry

While my ankle’s the color of a cranberry

Verse 3

We screamed and laughed

All the way down that hill

But at the bottom we crashed

Leaving me to pop a pill

Verse 4

Now she brings me coffee in bed

And keeps my ankle wrapped up tight

Calls me her cowboy and shakes her head

Before she kisses me goodnight

Final Chorus

Yeah, I’m hobbled for the holidays

Still lost in my lovesick haze

But maybe Santa knew this cowboy

Needed more than Christmas joy

Let everybody else keep rocking

Around the tree and Christmas stockings

I’d take that hill, that crash, that fall

To have her here—ankle and all

Tag

Yeah, I’d do the whole thing over again

If she’d be waiting at the end
