Chapter 93
LUCY
Ileft April’s Coffee Shop discouraged and disgusted.
April had gotten the best of me. There was zero doubt about that. My plan to stash my phone and try to get her to admit to something was a non-starter. She found my phone within seconds.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I’d waited to walk in until she used the bathroom. What was she supposed to think?
No, it hadn’t been my greatest idea, but I didn’t know how else to get her on a recording. Shit, why hadn’t I just started recording and left the phone in my jeans?
Would that have even picked up voices? I guess it didn’t matter.
And to end our conversation, she delivered the knockout blow, referencing a four-leaf clover. At first, I thought maybe it was just random that she brought it up, until she referenced getting it as a tattoo. Then there was no doubt.
This was the inside joke of all inside jokes. Eddie had a tattoo of a four-leaf clover on the right side of his belly button.
So, April had been sleeping with Eddie.
Not that I was in the least bit surprised. Since Poppi Grace had called me, I’d suspected that Eddie had met a woman at Hotel Pico. After she described his hair as all messed up and his shirt half-buttoned, what else was I supposed to think?
I thought I hated Remington Patton.
April Devers was manifesting a hate far surpassing anything I’d ever felt.
