9. Chapter 8
Crusher – Two Days Later
I grip my handlebars as I look in my mirror, eyeing the white van that has been following our group back from meeting the Dark Angels MC, suspicion building while my wife’s whisper echoes in my head.
The soft note of her voice that I missed so fucking much when she confirmed it was her on the other end of the phone.
The reason why Knuckles told me to knock my opponent out, that it was an emergency and fuck, so many emotions rushed through me hearing her voice, hearing that she called me after I exploded on her voicemail but then she hung up.
She heard that bitch call me baby, she heard that bitch throw herself at me and kiss me after she barged into the locker room.
She was eaves dropping and heard me speaking to my girl and she fucking ruined me finding my wife who has officially disconnected her old number.
“Brother, you’re going to kill her,” Blaze explains calmly, but makes no move to stop me, knowing if he had the chance, he’d fucking strangle her as well.
Roxy’s eyes tear up as she tries to claw at my hand around her neck, which makes me squeeze tighter, and my anger hazes over, even as we hear, “Has anyone seen Roxy, or has she whored herself out again because Crusher doesn’t want her? She has my keys.”
She warned me I’d regret shoving her away, and now, because of her, my wife won’t answer her phone. Blaze has tried calling her several fucking times, and the last time, her voicemail was disconnected.
This bitch is going to die!
“Roxy?” I hear shouted and I flare my nostrils as I shove her hard, causing her to fall onto her already swollen ankle and she cries out as she hits the floor, her hand going to the swelling before her eyes widen when I bend down and I threaten, “Get the fuck outta town, because if I ever see you again, then I’ll slit your fucking throat,” I curl my lip at her, “Tick tock bitch, because my knife is burning for your flesh!”
Her tears fall, and she stumbles, crying out as she tries to put pressure on her right foot before she runs away.
I should have fucking killed the bitch, I really fucking should have, and instead of going after her when Trick confirmed Alexiana’s phone had been disconnected, I got stuck on this fucking run, following behind like always, hating it.
It’s always going to be a reminder that I was never good enough for my dad, and fuck, even now, after all these years, it’s a hard pill to swallow.
When the little boy who grew up trying everything to please his father gets shoved to the side, it does something to you, it fucks you up. Unfortunately for me, it fucked me up to the point I cheated on my wife.
I eye the van again to see it’s gained on us, giving me the chance to see inside the cab, and I chuckle darkly seeing two skinny fuckers with cannon tattoos on their necks.
Well, Cage did say the Chargers have been quiet lately, since they helped that fucking fed kidnap Kodi.
Sighing, knowing I’m going to have to do something stupid to keep the gear that we’re bringing back with us safe. I press number two on my bike, something I haven’t done at all throughout Blaze taking over from my father and ringing echoes in my helmet.
“It’s about time you called, you know,” Blaze answers, “I miss my friend and honestly I’m fed up with having to make mistakes just to get you to speak to me and not through one of the brothers either.
I know Alex calling then hanging up, most likely taking things the wrong way with Roxy was hard, but she called brother, meaning she’s still thinking about you, even after all these years. ”
I ignore his words, and not just because I refuse to talk about my wife with him, and I remind him, “Remember when Trick was shot on that ambush, and poor Clark had to operate on him despite not being a fully trained nurse yet?”
“Yeah, what about…” His words trail off, and he curses, “Fuck,” then commands, “don’t do anything fucking stupid, I’ll call for backup!”
“Didn’t you know, stupid is my middle name,” I retort, the rush of shooting these fuckers already electrifying underneath my skin, and he snaps, “No, it’s fucking Kayden. I swear to God, don’t make me tell my best friend in a voicemail that her boyfriend, her old man, got shot!”
“Her phone is disconnected, remember Blaze, and she ignored my call when I tried that new number after she called Kodi yesterday,” I remind him.
Knuckles and Kodi tied the knot in a private ceremony at the courthouse, like Alexiana and I did, and the club celebrated with a reception despite being pissed that they missed the ceremony, and my wife called her friend.
Turns out Alexiana had been listening to my voicemails because she called, just not realizing she did so during the reception.
Kodi confirmed Knuckles is staying with the club, while my wife confirmed she isn’t seeing anyone.
Trick has been tracking her mom’s phone and all he’s found is sexting with her and a lot of men.
No messages from her daughter meaning she bullshitted about being in contact with her.
Alexiana has blocked my number on her new phone after ignoring my calls, so right now, I’m barely hanging on by a fucking thread.
I rev my bike high and say, “Get the gear away from here. I’ll try and catch up when I can,” before I hang up, then press my brakes hard as I spin around.
I hear Crash doing the same thing as me, which doesn’t surprise me, probably Deja vu for the fucker, and I grin as the van speeds up, one arm already hanging out of the window with a gun.
Bring it fuckers.
Chuckling, I rev my bike and drive towards them, causing the driver's eyes to widen as I grab my piece attached to my thigh, then hold it up, not giving a shit about the passenger holding a gun towards me.
I shoot towards the windshield just as the passenger shoots my way.
I hear Crash shout as the bullet hits my arm, and I grunt as I lose control of my bike and skid.
My bike instantly goes sideways and the asphalt digs into my left side as I’m dragged down the road before I flip, landing with a thump on the floor.
I relish in the pain just as my bike continues to skid past me and the van swerves and crashes into a ditch, and I chuckle.
Fuckers didn’t have a bulletproof windshield. Idiots.
“Fuck Crusher!” Crash shouts just as I hear him shoot his gun once, twice, three times, before I hear bikes revving their engines from a distance. I know Blaze has returned like a jackass instead of listening to me.
“Shit,” Crash chokes as he rolls me onto my back, and I cough with a groan at the pain down my side, my arm throbbing.
“Well, that was fun,” I choke, and Crash growls as Blaze comes into view, his hand on the back of his neck, his phone to his ear, and I slowly sit up with Crash’s help, grunting at the pain.
Okay, so being shot and losing control of your bike hurts like shit. Who knew, huh?
Tray instantly comes up behind me and helps me stand, making me groan at the pain, just as I hear Blaze panic, “Pres, we were fucking hit, Crusher’s been shot and knocked off his bike!”
“I’m fine,” I croak as Tray puts my asphalt arm over his shoulder, and Blaze snaps, “You most likely have a bullet in your arm, your bike is fucked, and your left side is wrecked!” before he says, “We’re five minutes out of town, we need a clean-up crew and fucking quick,” just as Trick revs his bike and stops beside us.
He went off five minutes ago to make sure the coast was clear of feds and Chargers, we just didn’t realize the fuckers were behind us.
“Shit, talk about déjà vu,” Trick snaps, “Why in the fuck did you confront them without back up? We’re close to the fucking clubhouse!”
I shrug then groan, “At least I’m not needing emergency surgery,” and Trick glares at me as he gently grabs my arm, then curses.
“The bullet is still inside,” he snaps, and I hum, feeling fucking drained.
“Well, dig it out then,” I croak, and he growls louder, and Tray helps me towards the club's van full of gear before helping me inside just as my dad roars down the road, and I roll my eyes.
Fuck’s sake.
“What the fuck happened?!” he demands as he stops near the van, “I got an SOS from Cage but no details,” but his eyes widen seeing my state, and I salute him as Tray shuts the door, and he shouts, “He was fucking shot?!”
Oh, so now he suddenly cares about me.
“Drive,” I command with a choke, and Lewis nods before putting the van in gear, I close my eyes, and my girl’s dark green ones hit me, and the urge to pick at my bullet wound slowly consumes me, making me want pain where she isn’t reason.
***
Lewis pulls through the club's gates ten minutes later, and he murmurs, “What the fuck is the Chief doing here in his cruiser?” and I look to see Kodi’s dad standing next to his car, handcuffs in hand and a very pissed off Cage and Kodi next to him.
Their eyes come our way as we stop near them and I slowly get out of the van, grunting at the pain, and Kodi’s eyes widen seeing the state of me, causing her to rush over and put my arm over her shoulder.
I give her a slight grimace as Cage curses, “Fuck’s sake, you look worse than Blaze said you did!”
I grunt a non-verbal answer as my mother gasps from the door and goes to run over to me, but pauses when I look at the Chief and confirm, “Let me guess, Roxy?”
His jaw ticks as he shakes his head, then reads me my fucking rights, and all I can think about is how I won’t get any conjugal visits.
Damn, that’s a sad thought, though to be fair, the last bitch I fucked was Roxy eight years ago, so…
“Hayes Smith, I’m arresting you on suspicion of assault and causing bodily harm,” he grunts, his anger coming off in spades.
“Damn, I won’t get any conjugal visits,” I grunt, and the Chief growls, “I’m not actually going to take you to the station, idiot, I’m doing it for show before I can then arrest that bitch who we know is watching right now for making false claims. I don’t want to risk her running.
I’ve seen the footage of her throwing herself at you, and I think you fucking controlled yourself. ”
I hum then ask with a smirk, “I thought you hated the club?”
“Shut up,” he groans, and I add, “I think Knuckles screwing your daughter and marrying her, has mellowed you a little, Chief. What happened to the badass who kept trying to raid our properties, huh?” I pout, “I’m actually a little disappointed.”
Okay, so I think blood loss may have made me a little loopy.
The Chief glares at me as Kodi chokes on her own spit next to me, while Cage snaps, “How fucking hard did you hit your head? Are you trying to get locked up?”
“Maybe,” I say, and Cage scowls at me, making me chuckle as the Chief gently takes me from his daughter, then shoves me into the back of his cruiser. I laugh despite the pain before he gets in front, puts his lights on, then reverses out just as my dad skids into the parking lot of the club.
“What the fuck? Why is he in the back of the cruiser and not in the medical room?” I hear him shout, and I lay my head back and close my eyes.
“You’re self-destructing, son,” Chief says, and I hum and admit, “I know…”
He sighs as he goes towards my house, clearly Cage telling him to take me there, and he mutters, “I’ll get the bullet out and bandage you up, but son, you can’t keep going on like this.”
“I just need my wife,” I whisper, and I feel him look at me, but not say anything.
He is the only one who knows about Alexiana and me, and that is only because he saw us walking out of the judge’s chambers hand in hand.
I just need my fucking wife.
