Epilogue- Elariya
Six months later
Wolfe and I lay among the Moonfrost flowers, gazing up at the night sky. One of the things I’d come to love about Galaythia were the festivals and accompanying firework display.
Tonight was the start of the Vehytide. The celebration of Fae winter solstice where the stars were clearest in the sky.
I also had something more to celebrate and I’d been thinking of how to tell Wolfe.
It had been on my mind since the other day at Emabelle’s wedding.
Now as we lay here trading thoughts I thought it would be the perfect time, but I wanted to do it right.
We’d fallen into this game of ‘what’s on your mind?’ a few months ago.
It was reminiscent of that drinking game we’d played on our first date at the Lumiere festival.
Tonight felt just like that, filled with hope and anticipation.
Wolfe sighed, his eyes fixed on a burst of fireworks that had turned into a shower of twinkling purple lights.
“I was thinking of training dragons again,” he said, glancing at me.
I turned my head and smiled at him. “I think you should definitely do that.”
“I think I am. The academy put in a request. I didn’t want to let the kids down. But I also remembered how much I missed it.”
“I’ll be excited for you to pick that up again.”
“What, excited to come?” He smirked, already knowing the answer.
“Is the grass green?”
“Hey only in some places.”
“You know what I mean.” I giggled. “I would love to join you.”
“Good. Mrs. Nightblade. The dragons seem to have an affinity to you. Not sure if I should be jealous.”
I leaned over and kissed him. “Nothing to be jealous of.”
He leaned into me. “So, what’s on your mind? You’ve been acting weird since the other day.”
I smiled, looking up at the sky. “I’ve been thinking that by this time next year, our babies will at least be crawling through the Moonfrost flowers.” I bit the inside of my lip and waited for him to process that.
He did and he sat up, gazing down at me. “What did you just say?”
I sat up too. “The babies.”
His face paled before his eyes grew with excitement. “What babies?”
“The twins. I’m… pregnant. With twins.”
He caught my face, held me and gazed into my eyes. “What?”
“My mom… she guessed. I mean about the pregnancy part. Then grandmother did the rest. She picked up two heartbeats.”
“Gods be good, Ziyka.”
“Are you happy? I know two is—”
He pulled me in for a kiss, stopping my next words. “Two is half way to four. Two down, two more to go. I’m ecstatic.”
“Me too.”
“Thank you for making me the happiest person alive.”
“And you, Wolfe Nightblade.”
My happiness began with him. And the best part was knowing there was no ending.
