Epilogue- Wolfe

Kaem carried more baby presents into the manor. Of all the people who had gone crazy over the news of my wife’s pregnancy, he was by far the worst.

That was saying something considering Bastian, Arielle, and Garrick had gone to Thalyrius on a shopping spree to get baby things, and still hadn’t returned.

I stood with Alaric in the garden. I’d just come out here to find him. Then Kaem portaled in.

Now he was carrying a rocking horse. At least I thought that’s what he was. Like everything with Kaem, nothing was ever what it was.

Casually, he lifted a hand and waved before disappearing through the door.

“Are you going to do something about him?” Alaric asked, amused.

“No. Remember what I said that time when Kaem brought Zyrra that fish toy.”

“Wolfe that wasn’t a toy. That was one very, very ugly and very real fish. If you’re not careful, he’ll bring things like that into your home. Zyrra couldn’t sleep for weeks.”

We both laughed and I took a moment to appreciate that we could talk about her now.

Talk about fond memories without the darkness.

“Father said to humor him, so… I’ll do the same.”

“Hmmm, very well.”

“Besides you can have all the toys we don’t use.”

“Like fuck. I’m not having kids any time soon. That’s your thing.” He laughed heartily.

“We’ll see.”

“How about you tell me what you summoned me for.”

I had a special mission for him. “Fancy making another visit to Dravkava?”

“Can I say no?”

“No.”

“Gods Wolfe. What’s the point of asking? Why am I going to Dravkava?”

“The Seer came to see me yesterday. She said destiny awaited us there.”

“Destiny?”

I folded my arms. "Our alliance with House Thagar changed everything during the battle. It made me realize we've spent too long keeping ourselves separated."

"You want stronger ties with the vampires," he surmised correctly.

"I do." I looked back at him.

"If destiny is drawing our attention toward Dravkava..." I smiled. "...I think we should find out why. And who better to do so than my brother?”

He cocked his head. I thought he was going to protest again, but he nodded. “Okay. I’ll go. I’ll go see what more destiny has in store for us.”

Just then Elariya walked through the door with Kaem.

She looked across the distance at me.

Destiny had already given me so much.

My favorite was her.

There was nothing better than my wife.
