Chapter 10
Chapter Ten
By the time Xavier made it past a collection of table games and into the bar that hosted the sports book, hotel security had joined in the chase.
He wasn’t sure if they knew what was going on or if they were just responding to the two guys who were running crazily through the casino and weaving between patrons.
Whatever the case, more men were in the mix now.
The one Xavier pursued was surprisingly quick and agile. They darted around people, through groups, and at one time even jumped high onto a blackjack table where they bounded off and hit the ground running on the other side without barely breaking stride.
“What the hell? I’m chasing a damn ninja or something!” Xavier growled angrily to himself.
He was losing strength, but the guy he was chasing seemed to still have full steam as he trekked on through the entire casino before eventually getting outside.
Xavier lost him. The few seconds the fleeing man had gained proved vital in his escape, as once out the doors he blended in with the sea of people milling about the Vegas Strip.
“Damnit. He could be anyone!” Xavier said.
“Sir! The police are on their way!” a uniformed security guard said as he approached, his hand on the gun he wore at his side.
As if on cue, LVPD cruisers began to pull up with their lights flashing as they flooded the valet drop-off area.
Raising his hands, Xavier said, “I’m a former police officer. I’m working security for Nova Monroe and was pursuing someone who snuck into her dressing room.”
The front doors slid open again with an electronic hiss and some of the plainclothes guards who’d been in the performance hall spilled out.
“He’s with us!” the lead one said.
It helped that several of the responding police officers recognized Xavier and rushed to him to make sure everything was all right as he lowered his hands.
Thankfully, no one had been hurt in that whole ordeal and Nova was safe.
But unfortunately, the possible stalker got away.
And the Daddy Guard was no closer to figuring out who was behind all this.
