Chapter 11 Double Trouble
Chapter eleven
Double Trouble
Twin StepBrothers
Summer is almost over and it’s time to start packing for college.
Two years down, two more to go. I’ve been in the dorms the last two years, but Mom got married and Charlie insists that I live off campus.
I don’t know if he’s trying to buy me or if he is just like this but he’s trying buy me things left and right.
Mom said he’s just like that and his sons are as well.
I don’t know much about his sons, which is odd because I went to middle and high school with them.
We’ve attended the same college for the last two years as well.
“Mia, your mom and I want to talk to you downstairs,” Charlie says from my doorway. I set down the box in my hand and turn to him.
“Uh, okay,” I say. I follow him out and meet my mom and his sons in the living room.
Declan and Darian are identical twins. Gorgeous twins. They have a god-like body that is perfectly sculpted. There is over a foot difference between us as I am just over five feet, and they are six foot four. I am just short, awkward, and shy.
“Everything okay?” I ask, trying to avoid the twins’ gaze. They’re always watching me, but I can’t figure out what they are thinking.
“Yeah, we just wanted to let you know something,” Mom says, and I nod once.
”So… Charlie wants you off campus so that you have more freedom than if you were in a dorm.
He also wants to set up an account for you so you can focus on school instead of trying to work full time and go to school full time. ”
“That’s not necessary,” I say, shaking my head. “Seriously… it’s okay.”
“Mia… it’s not. You hardly sleep and we never see you,” Charlie says.
“I know you and your mother have never had anyone in your life try to take care of you, but that’s what this is.
I want to make sure I am doing the same for you that I do for Darian and Declan.
I have the ability to help, so I want to help.
You three are responsible and understand what hard work is.
This isn’t about buying your affection or spoiling anyone. I just want to make your life easier.”
“Okay,” I sigh.
“Thank you,” he smiles. “Now… I would like for you to stay with the boys because I don’t feel comfortable with you living alone. It’s not that I don’t trust you…”
“He’s afraid someone will hurt you,” Declan says when Charlie doesn’t.
“Ya know… follow you home and whatnot,” Darian adds.
“I guess it’s better than sharing a bathroom with thirty girls,” I say. “Alright. I don’t do much, so I won’t take up much room.”
“We’re not concerned,” Declan says with a smile. “Just don’t bring guys home.”
“Do I get the same courtesy?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.
“We won’t bring home guys either,” Darian laughs.
“Smartass,” Charlie says, smacking the back of his head, making me laugh.
“Ow, old man,” Darian says, rubbing the back of his head. “I’m kidding. Jeez. We won’t bring home any girls.
“I was kidding. It’s your home,” I say and Charlie sighs.
“No,” Declan says. “It’s our home.”
“Okay,” I sigh.
“Also,” Mom says. “I’ll start with saying I’m doing this, not Charlie. It’s not up for debate.”
“God. What?” I ask.
“You are taking my car and we are getting rid of that death trap of yours. It is unreliable and not safe. I gave you the option for a while but now I’m not. I don’t wanna hear anything about it,” she says firmly.
“Well… it won’t start anyway… so…” I say.
“Oh… that’s because I took the spark plugs out,” Declan says with a smile. “We were afraid it was going to kill you.”
“All of you are annoyingly nice,” I frown.
“We will help load your stuff and we can hit the road tonight,” Darian says as he stands.
“Uh, okay,” I say. “I just have a few things left to pack.”
“Tell me if they annoy you,” Charlie says as he hugs me.
“I will,” I say before hugging Mom. “I’m going to go finish I guess.”
“We will be up in a second,” Declan says.
I nod before going back to my room. I hurry up and finish packing the rest of my things.
I try not to focus on the fact that I’m going to be in the same house as them for two years.
They’re my stepbrothers and I definitely can’t continue thinking the dirty thoughts about them that I do.
I’m pretty sure that is frowned upon now that we’re family.
The guys come up with Charlie and they all grab my things. I managed to get a hold of one bag and my purse before they take everything else. “I could’ve gotten something,” I say.
“You packed it. We can load it,” Charlie says with a shrug. I don’t know what to say to that, so I just follow them downstairs.
“We will come visit,” Mom says as she hugs me.
“Okay, Mom. Thank you,” I say as I hug her. When she pulls away, she goes to her purse and gets the keys to her car out.
“You’re welcome. Your new debit card is in the glovebox and the PIN is on a sticky note attached to it. I’m picking up a new car this week.”
“Is he good to you?” I ask. “Honestly?”
“He is amazing,” she smiles. “It’s been an adjustment going from being abused by everyone that I am in a relationship with to being treated like a human.
He is so patient with me because I’m having to relearn what a relationship is supposed to be.
Maybe being around the boys will show you how you are supposed to be treated.
They are just like their father, so I know that they will take care of you. ”
“I can take care of myself,” I laugh.
“You can try,” Declan says as he and Darian prop their arms on my shoulders.
“I’m already annoyed,” I sigh.
“This will be quite an experience, I’m sure,” Mom laughs.
I set the one box I managed to grab on my new king-sized bed.
I don’t know why one person needs this much room, but I won’t complain.
The house is beautiful and spacious. The guys warned me that they are having a welcome back party but promised that it won’t get too crazy.
I’m not a party kind of person so I will just hole up in my room.
No one knows that our parents are married and at this point, we are deciding not to tell anyone.
It will be easier to explain that I am just a roommate than that our parents are making us live together.
Not that there is anything wrong with it, but some people are just stupid and will turn it into something that it's not.
“So that's everything,” Darian says. “We are going to unload our stuff and try to get unpacked before people get here. We had a buddy come by and bring everything and get us some basic groceries so we should have something to eat tonight.”
“Well… I am just going to be in my room all night, so I will grab something to eat before you guys have people over,” I say as I open my closet.
“What? No you have to join us, Mia,” Declan says.
“I’m a very socially awkward person. I’ve always just kept myself. I’m surprised you guys even knew who I was. I literally don’t talk to anyone besides Shauna. She’s not coming in until tomorrow,” I say.
“Shauna thought you were dating us, right?” Darian asks.
“Yeah,” I laugh. “Something like that.
“Why is that funny?” Declan frowns. “Too good for us, Mia?”
“No,” I laugh again. “I’m just not the person guys like you two would date.” I open up one box and start pulling hangers with clothing on them out to hang.
“That’s dumb. Who told you that?” Declan says with a frown.
“Me,” I say. “Go, so you can get ready for your party.”
They sigh heavily but leave me to unpack alone.
I think it’s sweet of them that they want to include me, but I don’t think they really realize just how much I’m going to be there.
Involving myself in their life is only going to make it hard to live together.
I will just bring the vibe down for everyone.
Shauna is insistent that I should try something with them, even if they are my stepbrothers.
I had the biggest fucking crush on them all through school.
Even though we didn’t really know much about each other, they were always extremely nice to me.
They were the only two jocks who didn’t make fun of or belittle me in any way.
They defended me against their own friends countless times.
I think all that means is that they were raised right, and their father made sure that they were respectful people.
Once I get everything unpacked and put away, I go downstairs to get something to eat and grab a few snacks, so I don’t have to come down later. When I step into the kitchen, nearly a dozen pairs of eyes turn to me and I freeze. “Hey,” Declan says with a smile. “Get unpacked?”
“Uh. Yeah,” I say. “Sorry… I was just coming to get something to eat so I can get out of the way.”
“You’re not in the way, Mia,” Darian says. I just nod because I don’t wanna argue with him in front of his friends.
“I’ll just come down later,” I say. I try to turn but Declan grabs my arm and pulls me back. ”Declan, it’s not...”
“Mia, stop. Please join us,” he asks.
“Why?” I ask with a sigh.
“Because they want to show off their hot roommate,” one of the guys say with a shrug.
“Shut up, Jared,” Darian snaps.
“Oooh. Protective, are we?” he asks with a grin.
“That’s Jared. He likes to fuck women then never call them back,” Declan says flatly and Jared shrugs.
“Got it. One night stand only,” I say and everyone laughs when Declan and Darian narrow their eyes at me.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mia,” Jared says, offering me his hand.
“Likewise,” I laugh and shake his hand.
“You know what they say about a girl with a good grip?” he asks, still holding my hand.
“Jared,” Declan growls.
“Single, apparently,” I say with a sweet smile.
“Alright. You’re grounded,” Darian says as he grabs my waist and pulls me away from his friends. “I thought you said you were socially awkward?”
“I’m good at faking it,” I shrug.
“Oh, you won’t have to fake it with me,” Jared says with a wink, and I giggle.
“Jared. Seriously?” Declan asks.
