Chapter 14
“How long is he gonna be out of it?” I start to hear a female’s voice off in the distance.
“He’ll come around soon,” another female says.
“Can’t you put some smelling salts under his nose and make it happen quicker?” I hear my best friend ask.
“No, Riot, I’m not going to do that. He’ll wake shortly. His body needs the rest after what’s happened today,” I hear Melissa’s voice say.
“A good smack to the face will wake his ass up,” Brass says with a chuckle and several deep laughs follow.
“You could try, but I’d beat your ass into a coma,” I mumble as my eyes focus, and I see my brothers with Raegan and Melissa in the room they shoved me and Stone in earlier.
“Glad to see you back, Havoc,” Melissa comments, coming over and shining a light directly into my eyeballs.
“What happened?” I ask, still a little fuzzy.
“You passed out in the burn unit,” she informs me while taking off the pressure cuff around my upper arm.
“Almost knocked your head on the floor if Riot and Reaper hadn’t caught you,” Stone tells me.
I shake my head, remembering seeing Sutton in her bed.
“When can I go back up there and sit with her?” I ask.
“Doctors don’t want anyone up there until sometime tomorrow morning,” Melissa answers.
“That’s not gonna work for me,” I let her know.
Raegan stands in a panic from the chair next to Stone and gasps. “What about the baby? Is the baby going to be okay?”
“Don’t think Havoc can carry a baby. Unless he needs to share something with us,” Brass says and I scoff.
“Not him, Sutton,” Raegan calls out and all the chuckles and laughing from the room halt.
Melissa stops listening to my chest with her stethoscope and takes a step back. Her eyes widen like she’s realizing something.
“I need to go check with Dr. Kemp,” she says then takes a step to the door. You could hear a pin drop in the room, it’s so quiet.
“Sutton?” I look between the two women. “She’s pregnant? How do you… Why didn’t I know?” They both look to one another. “Somebody better start talking,” I snap, and Stone stands from his chair and places his hands on his wife’s shoulders.
“That’s why she came over today,” Raegan tells us. “Said that she’d been feeling off and thought she might be.” She shrugs. “We both took tests, and they came back positive. Mom came over to draw our blood to make sure and then left before y’all came home.”
“It…was positive?” I can’t keep the shock out of my voice when I ask, but there’s also a little bit of hope.
“Yes,” Raegan answers.
“You took one too?” Stone whirls his wife around to face him and she nods. “And?”
“Positive,” she says with a smile, but before she can finish her answer, he pulls her up in an embrace and twirls her in a circle then back on her feet.
The room erupts in cheers and congratulations for our president and brother. Having Zane is the best thing I’ve ever done in this life, so I can imagine how Stone is feeling right now.
“I need to speak with Sutton’s doctors about the possible pregnancy,” Melissa says then darts out of the room.
“Why did she say possible if the tests already came back positive?” Brass asks.
“The blood test makes it official and helps show how far along we might be,” Raegan tells Brass then turns back to me. “She might be farther along than me. Didn’t you notice her stomach getting rounder?”
I noticed some changes in her body but didn’t want to bring attention to it to make her self-conscious.
She was finally eating regularly, and I thought the few extra pounds were because she’d basically been starved for four years.
Her body changing was a turn on and not once did I bat an eye to it.
It also wasn’t like I was trying to prevent knocking her up either.
The only time I used a condom with her was the first time we met at Frankie’s bar months ago, and even then I only used it the first session. The second time over the desk was raw.
“I noticed but it didn’t matter to me. She’s been exhausted the last few weeks, but that’s about it. Thought it had to do with the renovation of the house.” I shrug.
“About the renovations,” Stone starts to share. “All those were for Rocky. Melissa finally came around to letting him live on his own, so she recruited Sutton to help turn the house into Rocky’s dream house. Even had him helping to make sure it was everything he wanted.”
“Really?” I ask. “Where was Sutton supposed to live if Rocky was moving in?”
“She was moving in with you and Zane. She had everything planned out to tell you tomorrow,” Raegan speaks up, and it makes my stomach drop.
I feel a pat on my boot and look up to see Riot. His eyes are soft and understanding. He knows how long I’ve been waiting to have a family, and Sutton completed that for me.
There’s a tap on the glass and when Bull slides the door open, Turner strides in. He nods to Stone and then me.
“How’s everyone doing?” he asks, looking between me and our president.
“As can be expected,” Stone says.
“Is your woman doing okay?” Turner looks over to me.
“She’s holding on for now,” I say.
“What you got?” Stone pulls the chief’s attention back his way.
“Wasn’t natural by any means. They used C4 but also had an accelerant to burn the place up to try to hide the evidence,” Turner says.
“When the fuck would someone have the time to rig up C4 without anyone knowing it?” Reaper asks.
Stone snaps his head over to Hawk, who’s standing by the sink in the corner of the cubicle.
“Get to the street and start checking the cameras. Start at my house then Blaze’s house. If you have to go door to door to ask to see their security footage or doorbell cameras then fucking do it,” Stone orders.
“And if they don’t want to share it?” Hawk asks.
“Don’t give them a chance.”
“I’ll come with you,” Twitch offers, and Bear follows them out.
“This retaliation?” Turner asks Stone after the door closes.
“Not sure,” Stone says with a shrug then secures an arm around Raegan. “But we’ll handle it.”
“That’s what I’m afraid of,” the chief mumbles.
“I’m going to try to keep this quiet for as long as I can, but you need to act fast before the wrong people get word that houses are blowing up in the city because of some turf war or whatever shit y’all are doing.
” Turner rubs his temple. “Got the fire marshal to say it was an isolated gas leak, so hopefully that will squash any rumors for now.”
“Thanks for the heads up, Chief,” Stone says then nods for Turner to leave.
Once we are alone, Stone turns to the room.
“I want the MC on lockdown. Make the calls and get everyone important there until we figure out who our threat is.” Brass starts to say something, but Stone holds his hand up.
“I want someone outside Sutton’s room standing guard.
If there needs to be a schedule then make it happen.
” Stone turns to Reaper. “Call the MC Chapters, I want a conference call with all the presidents…” He looks over at the clock above the door.
“In one hour. I want every available Nomad here in the next forty-eight hours.”
“Yes, sir,” Reaper says with a nod then exits the room, phone in hand.
“Lockdown starts now. I want everyone behind our walls within the next forty-eight hours,” Stone states then dismisses the brothers as I sit and ponder what the hell has just happened in the last few hours.
