50. CHAPTER 45

AXL

Every second the doctor takes to speak is another bone I want to break in his body.

“She’s stable for now.” He holds his hand up before I can push past him.

“She’s not awake. We pumped her stomach, and we’ve got her on fluids and oxygen.

Her vitals are improving, but her body took a hit.

We’re running bloodwork now to identify exactly what she was given and how much damage we’re dealing with. ”

My knees start to buckle, and Priest grabs my shoulder. “When is she going to wake up?”

“I can’t give you a timeline. It depends on what she ingested and how long it was in her system before you got to her.” He pauses and looks at me. “She might have neurological deficits. We’re going to run some tests.”

My entire body is shaking, ready to explode. “I need to fucking see her.”

“Give us another twenty minutes to get her settled and finish the bloodwork, and then I’ll come get you.”

He disappears behind the doors quickly, not giving me a chance to object. I stand there staring at the spot where he was.

Whoever did this is already dead. And if they took any part of what makes her the woman I love, I’ll still watch the world burn just to make sure I fucking kill everyone associated with them.

I’ll love her no matter what, but I’m selfish and I want every fucking piece of my heathen.

I want her to have everything she wants in this world, just the way she is. She deserves triple that.

Priest is on his phone, speaking low. “Crew, we need you and Kase at Axl’s suite right now. Someone drugged Saylor and tried to kill her. We need you to go over the entire room and tap into the hall cameras. Axl’s cameras were tampered with. Don’t let anyone in that fucking room.”

He hangs up and looks at me. “They’ll take care of that. You can focus here.”

I nod. I can’t sit down. I can’t stand still. I’m pacing the hallway, and my wrapped hands are throbbing. My girl is through those doors trying to come back to me, and I’m fucking useless.

The twenty minutes feels like twenty years.

Priest stays beside me, doing something on his phone.

He doesn’t talk, and I don’t need him to.

I’d have sent him to go help Crew and Kase, but I know he wouldn’t have gone.

And depending on what goes down here, I’m going to need him to slow me down.

Because if something happens to her, I’ll kill everyone in this building.

I don’t care that it’s not their fault. Everyone’s going to fucking pay.

I pull her phone out of my pocket and watch the video again. I can’t stop watching it. Every time I press play, I’m looking for something new and to see my perfect girl alive and breathing.

The double doors open. The same man in scrubs steps out, and I’m in front of him before he can open his mouth.

“She’s resting. Vitals are steady. She’s not conscious yet, but her oxygen levels are improving.” He holds the door open. “If you can control yourself, you can sit with her.”

If I wasn’t in such a desperate state to see her, I would beat the shit out of this guy. I walk through the doors and Priest follows.

She’s the only patient here, and they have her in the last bed on the right.

There’s a curtain half-drawn around her.

There are monitors beeping and an IV running into the back of her hand.

Her face is pale against the white pillow, and her freshly dyed hair is fanned out around her head.

Her lips aren’t blue anymore. They’re pale pink.

I swallow the knot in my throat at the sight of her.

My hoodie is gone. They must have cut it off her. She’s in a hospital gown, and her arms are on top of the blanket. I stare at her hot pink nails against the white sheet.

I lower my lips to hers, needing to feel the warmth in them. “Hey, little heathen.” I whisper against them. “I’m going to find who did this. There’s not a corner of this fucking earth they can hide from me.”

I kiss her again and pull a chair to the side of the bed and sit down. Priest leans against the wall on the other side of the bed.

I pick up her hand and hold it in both of mine. She’s warmer than she was in the car, and she’s breathing on her own.

“Wake up for me, baby.” My voice cracks, and I don’t give a fuck. “I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”

I press her knuckles against my lips and close my eyes.

My girl is loud, and she fights me as much as she submits.

I want to go back to this morning, when I was in bed with her before all of this bullshit.

I’d have never left her. I’d have tied her to our bed and told her how much I fucking love her.

I’d have told her that I want her to marry me and give me our children, and I want to go through everything this fucked-up world throws at us together.

And I’m never letting her go.

I hold her hand against my mouth and watch her. Whoever did this is on borrowed time, and I’ll find them once I know she’s alright. I know my girl didn’t try to kill herself. I would bet my life on it, but my life isn’t worth shit without Saylor.

Watching her sleeping in this bed, I’ve never felt more helpless in my entire goddamn life.
