Chapter 17 The Basement
I took advantage of the chaos while Sheng Tianyun was in a panic and led people into his underground basement.
There were over a thousand monsters inside, almost drained dry. They were tied to experiment tables, tortured day after day, until they could barely maintain any monstrous form.
Just transporting them out of the basement took an entire day.
I held one of the black rabbits in my arms. He was so haggard he could no longer transform into human shape. He lay weakly in my embrace, on the verge of death.
I fed him food and water, gently stroking his head. "I'm sorry I came so late."
With a bang, the office door was kicked open.
I was about to see who had the guts to be so rude when I saw Sa'er, covered in wounds, throwing Sheng Tianyun to the ground. His eyes were blood-red. I assessed it as a sign of frenzy.
"Sa'er?"
He took a step toward me. I instinctively tightened my hold on the rabbit in my arms.
This action enraged Sa'er. White scale patterns appeared on his neck. His voice shook with emotion. "So you never liked me at all, Suiyu. You were just using me as a weapon to save him, right?"
"Who told you that?"
I looked at Sheng Tianyun, who was still breathing on the ground. "Did you tell him?"
"Isn't this the truth?"
Sa'er said, "Put him down."
I didn't move.
"Say it properly."
"I told you. If you dare show kindness to anyone else, I'll kill you!"
Sa'er turned invisible. The next second he reappeared only five steps away from me. In the following instant, I sensed a strong killing intent.
It wasn't directed at me, but at the rabbit in my arms.
Without time to think, I turned and shielded it in my embrace.
A sharp hiss sounded.
Sa'er's clawed hand pierced through my chest. He froze for three full seconds before pulling his hand back, looking completely at a loss. "I... I didn't mean to."
I placed the rabbit on the chair, stroked its head to comfort it, then stood up straight. "This is the third time."
