Chapter 2
I flipped through Sa'er's file and praised the person sitting in the office chair across from me. "Pretty impressive."
Taking out those arrogant bastards in the Monster Supervision Office could even be considered a good deed.
Half an hour earlier, despite the guards' strong objections, I had released Sa'er from the White Cube.
The sound of him sharpening his dinner knife against the porcelain plate suddenly stopped.
"You aren't going to interrogate me?"
"Should I?"
The monsters in the Supervision Office enjoyed equal human rights. Without major offenses, private torture was forbidden, and even authorized punishment had to be recorded.
Yet Sa'er was covered in wounds while his punishment record was completely blank.
Based on how the previous Directors had died with their clothes in disarray, I could guess the truth.
"New officials usually like to establish authority by targeting the most troublesome monster in the office, right? Like me?"
Sa'er looked up. The jellyfish lights above his head illuminated half of his cold, pale face. He was smiling, the shadow cast by his long lashes falling across his face.
"You're the first one who hasn't made things difficult for me."
After elegantly finishing his eightieth plate of grilled meat, Sa'er slowly stood up straight. The alarm light on the restraint collar around his neck changed from green to rapid flashing red.
It meant he was about to go berserk.
"I don't like unprovoked kindness. It always means I have to pay an unequal price."
"So—"
"Since you let me eat my fill, I'll make your death quick."
A flash of silver streaked before my eyes. A dinner fork stabbed straight into my throat.
Having succeeded, Sa'er lowered his gaze and curved his lips. "In your next life, remember to stay far away from me."
