Chapter 6
Sa'er snapped at me. "Get lost."
"I know it wasn't you."
One sentence instantly calmed the violent aura around him.
"If you really wanted to escape, you wouldn't have left any survivors."
"Why didn't you say anything?"
Sa'er lowered his head in grievance. "No one would have believed me."
"I believe you... huh?"
The venom-filled tail spine pierced straight through my abdomen. The Sa'er who had been red-eyed with grievance a second ago was now smiling. He hugged me and looked toward the world outside the drainage outlet.
"I'm sorry. You're a good person, but I can't turn back anymore," he whispered in my ear. "Compared to that, I want freedom more."
Sa'er pushed away my now-silent body, used sorcery to copy my fingerprint and iris data, and dragged his injured leg to stand up. He had only taken two steps when he heard the sound of bones cracking behind him.
I rotated my wrist and asked him, "Where are you going?"
Sa'er's expression shifted from shock to numbness. "What the hell are you?"
I had no answer to that question either.
Since I could remember, I had possessed this strange immortal body, but I had no other abilities besides that.
Sa'er had been half right earlier. The reason I sought him out was so he could work for me. Ideally, he would become a loyal fighter.
"Will there be a third time?"
Sa'er's face tightened. He said nothing.
