Divorce Papers on Her Birthday
Chapter 1
When MuJinci once again ditched me because of a call from her first love, I didn’t try to stop her.
The next day, I calmly told her I wanted a divorce.
She didn’t get it. She thought I was just throwing a tantrum.
Then I slapped the divorce agreement right in her face.
“MuJinci, these five years of marriage to you? Consider me unlucky.”
At the dinner table.
MuJinci scooped a spoonful of soup and said casually, “I’m going to ChenYi’s place later.”
ChenYi. Her first love.
In the five years we’d been married, almost every fight we’d had was because of him.
I couldn’t stand how often she stayed in touch with him after we got married.
She called me petty and jealous, said I had no manliness at all.
She always liked to shut me up with lines like:
“ChenYi and I are just friends. Don’t overthink it. If there was really something between us, do you think you’d even get the chance to marry me?”
She was very good at blocking me with words like that.
If this had happened before, the moment she said she was going to ChenYi’s and might not come back tonight, I would’ve exploded. We’d argue, go cold for days, and eventually I’d be the one to cave and apologize.
Five years. Over and over. I’d lost count.
Suddenly, it all felt pointless.
Why bother dragging it out?
Let her do whatever she wants.
“Okay. I got it.”
“If I get held up late, I probably didn't come back.”
“No problem. Driving in the middle of the night isn’t safe anyway.”
“…”
MuJinci opened her mouth, but nothing came out.
After a moment of silence, she actually explained—something rare for her:
“ChenYi broke his leg. He just got discharged today. I’m just going to see if he needs any help. Nothing else.”
“Mm.”
I nodded calmly.
But she looked… unhappy.
Her brows furrowed slightly.
“Are you angry?”
Angry?
Maybe five years ago I would’ve been.
I used to be furious that she was still entangled with him even after marrying me.
Furious that she always made me choose between her and him—and I was the one who got discarded.
Furious that if she didn’t love me, why did she date me with marriage in mind, why did we have that grand wedding in front of both our parents?
Most of all, I was furious at myself—for every chance I had to walk away, I kept gambling, kept forgiving, kept hoping next time would be different.
Five years of that had left me covered in wounds.
But now?
I’m not angry at all.
“No. I’m not angry.”
I answered honestly.
Her gaze hesitated.
“Before, every time I mentioned ChenYi you’d fight with me. How come this time…”
“Before was before. Things are different now.”
I set down my chopsticks and gave her a small smile.
“What’s wrong? Haven’t you always told me to be more magnanimous?”
“…”
MuJinci narrowed her eyes. Her expression turned stiff.
“Are you being sarcastic with me?”
