Chapter 15 Tumy
I hated that Major made me feel things I didn’t expect to feel.
The weekend was supposed to be about me escaping the world and resetting myself.
Instead, I’d fucked around and fallen for a man I would probably never see again.
Major had a lot of good qualities about him.
I loved waking up to him, but it was too soon to feel like that.
When I woke up in the morning, his side of the bed was empty. I didn’t hear any noise in the front of the house, so I called Mariah to see if she could help me make sense of the thoughts I had.
“Hello,” she answered on the second ring.
“You weren’t busy, were you?” I sat up against the headboard.
“No. I have some time to talk. What’s wrong?”
Sparrow jumped up on the bed, so I rubbed his head. I figured Major fed him for me since he was so relaxed.
“I think I’m in love, or at least close to it.”
Mariah gasped, then whispered something to her husband. I heard her moving around, then it got quiet on her end.
“Why do you sound sad about it?”
I closed my eyes and bit my bottom lip.
“Because I don’t know if it would work outside of here. It’s one thing to be trapped in our little bubble, but he could be a totally different person in the real world.”
“Or he could be the exact same. I understand your fear, but don’t let it ruin the rest of the time you two have together. You know what I say, what’s meant to be will be. There is nothing that’s going to stop what God put together.”
“God probably isn’t pleased with how I been bussing it open for this man.” A shiver ran through my body when I thought about the ways Major took control over my body the night before. Each time I thought he was done, he would do something else and make me scream to the high heavens.
Mariah cackled in my ear. “He knows you are still a work in progress. On a serious note, get out of your head and enjoy it.”
Sparrow jumped off my lap and ran out of the room when the front door opened. I assumed he was going to greet Major or hide from him.
“I think he’s coming,” I whispered.
“Okay. I’ll talk to you later. Stop worrying so much. Love you.” She blew a kiss through the phone and hung up.
Major entered the room with Sparrow in his arms.
“I see you two are well acquainted.” I teased Major as he walked over to the bed.
He put Sparrow on the floor, then leaned down to kiss my lips.
Even my damn cat fell for the man, and he didn’t like many people. This whole situation was complicated. We probably would have been better off being enemies this whole time.
“Yeah, that’s my little homey. You want some breakfast? The snow melted some more.”
“Breakfast sounds nice. Maybe I should go outside and get some fresh air afterwards. It feels like I been cooped up in here forever.”
“That’s a good idea. Get yourself together while I fix us a quick breakfast.” He kissed me again, but something in his eyes seemed different.
I wasn’t sure, but I felt like he was already starting to disconnect from me.
Maybe he thought the same things I did and was preparing for when we said goodbye.
“Okay.” I shook the thoughts off and got out of bed.
Major looked like he wanted to say something, but instead, he kept his mouth shut. He helped me make the bed, then left the room as I went to the bathroom.
While I cleaned myself, I thought about all the things I needed to do when I got home.
I had an idea to add a scented body butter for men, thanks to Major.
I wasn’t sure how I would achieve it, but I had a clue as to what scents I wanted to use.
There was no reason why men couldn’t have smooth skin but still smell manly.
I wanted to start with two scents. At least this trip helped my creative juices flow a little.
When I got out of the shower, I lathered myself with the vanilla body butter. I also took a moment to write the ideas I had in the shower. Once I was done, I dressed in jeans with a sweatshirt and long socks since I planned on going outside.
I left the room and went into the kitchen. Major had just turned the stove off when I entered.
“I hope you don’t mind, but I made pancakes, eggs, and sausage.”
“If they taste as good as the French toast, I won’t be mad at all,” I said as I took a seat at the table.
Major placed two plates in front of me. One held the pancakes, and the other one had the eggs and sausage. On the table was the butter and a bottle of syrup.
“I wasn’t sure how you wanted your tea, if you even wanted tea.” He placed a cup of hot water in front of me.
“Tea is perfect.” I reached for one of the tea bags next to the syrup.
He smiled at me as he took the seat across from me. Neither of us said anything as we took a moment to fix our food the way we wanted.
I drizzled some syrup on my pancakes and took a bite.
“Mm. Just as good as the French toast.”
“Thanks.”
I would miss Major’s cooking when we parted ways, among everything else about him. I tried not to get in my head again, so I struck up a conversation.
“Is there a toy you never got for Christmas because your parents wouldn’t buy it for you?”
My breath hitched when Major reached across the table and wiped the side of my mouth with his thumb.
“You had a little syrup.” He licked the syrup off his finger, and I squeezed my legs together.
“To answer your question. It was actually two things. A Super Soaker 50 and the original Game Boy. They never told me why I couldn’t get the Game Boy, but they did say they weren’t buying me a Super Soaker because they thought I would shoot them with it.
They weren’t wrong, though.” He laughed. “What about you?”
“A Furby. Mom always said they creeped her out, so she refused to get me one. Oh, and she would never buy me the Lip Smackers lip balms. She said I was too young to be walking around with glossy lips.” I let out a laugh.
My mother was serious about my not wearing any type of makeup or anything close to it. She made me wear regular Chapstick that nobody could tell I had on. All my friends wore makeup years before I could. She was probably the reason I hardly wore any as an adult.
“You never thought about buying a Furby as an adult?”
“No. I wouldn’t even know where to find one at this point.”
“Same for me.”
Silence fell over the kitchen for a moment.
“It looks like the sun is out.” I looked out the window behind Major.
He shifted in his seat and followed my line of vision.
“Yeah. I’ll clean up the kitchen if you want to get ready to go outside.”
It bothered me that he didn’t seem like he wanted to come with me, but I left it alone.
“Okay. Thanks for breakfast.” I got up from the table and headed to the bedroom to get what I needed to go outside.
I knew I wouldn’t be out there long, but I at least needed to grab my phone. I also wanted to check on Sparrow before I went.
Once I was ready, I stopped in the kitchen. Major was in the middle of wiping down the counters when I entered.
“I’m only going to take a little walk. Maybe we can watch a movie when I come back.”
Major turned to look at me. A strange look passed in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared.
“Yeah, we can do that. Be careful.”
“I will.”
I turned to leave the kitchen because that interaction felt weird to me. I made sure Sparrow was good, then left the cabin.
