Chapter 20 Major

Two months later

I sat up in bed and watched Tumy pace the space in front of her closet.

Every so often, she would mumble something, but I couldn’t hear what it was.

She was so deep in her thoughts that she didn’t even realize I was awake.

It was in the middle of the day, and after a busy morning at work, I’d come straight to Tumy’s house.

Once I was here, I showered, and we chilled a little bit until I fell asleep.

For the last two months, we spent almost every day together.

If I had to work, I would go to her house afterward.

She would cook dinner, or we would order out and continue to connect.

Some days she would come to my house, and I would fix dinner.

On the weekends, we spent time outside, going to different places around the town or just to the mall to hang out.

It didn’t matter what we did, as long as we got to spend time together.

“Come here, Tumy.”

Tumy jumped and stopped pacing.

“How long have you been awake?”

“Long enough to see and hear you pacing and talking to yourself.” I used my finger to motion for her to come to me.

I watched her as she walked toward the bed. She wore a black silk robe that was open, giving me the perfect view of her black bra and panty set. I licked my lips at the way the bra cupped her breasts.

She climbed onto the bed, and when she was within arm’s reach, I pulled her to me.

She straddled my lap and rested her head on my shoulder.

I wrapped my arms around her waist and rubbed her bare skin.

I could tell she used her body butter because her skin glistened and was soft.

Her signature cookie scent filled my nose.

“What’s going on?” My hand rubbed up and down her back as my other one rested on her hip.

Tumy looked up at me. “I’m nervous. It’s been a long time since I had to do something like this, and especially this soon.”

We agreed on meeting each other’s people, but now she looked like she wanted to do everything but that.

She would be meeting my parents, and I would be meeting her best friend and her husband.

She said she hadn’t talked to her brother, and she wouldn’t start now.

I hated that she didn’t want to try to restore her relationship with him, because he was the only family she had.

I placed my finger under her chin and kissed her forehead.

“There is nothing to be nervous about. My momma is excited to meet you. It’s all she’s been talking about.”

“Oh, God.” She put her hand over her face, then dropped her head to my chest.

I chuckled and hugged her.

“Baby, look at me.” She gave me her eyes.

“Do you think I would introduce you to my people if I thought they wouldn’t like you?

” She shook her head. I smiled and kissed her lips.

“Okay, then. I can tell you are still tense, though, so I have an idea.” I scooted down in the bed with Tumy still in my lap. “Come sit on my face.”

“What? Major, I still have to figure out what to wear.” She tried to get off my lap, but I held her in place.

“Right now, I need you to relax, and there is only one way to do that. Now, get up here.” I helped her remove her panties then climb over my face.

As soon as her pussy was in the right spot, I swiped her slit with my tongue. Tumy held on to the headboard as she rode my face.

“Major.” Her hips bucked when I sucked her clit into my mouth.

Her pussy gushed, wetting up my face. I let her ride my face until she came twice, then I slid her down to my dick.

There was no way I could make it through the day without feeling her, especially not after tasting her.

Tumy’s pussy was too good to resist. It was like eating my favorite snack. I couldn’t get enough of her.

When we were done, we got dressed for the day, then headed to my parents’ house.

On the ride to my parents’ house, Tumy still looked nervous, but she really didn’t have anything to worry about.

“Are you good?” I asked as we pulled into their driveway.

“Yes. Still a little nervous, but I’ll be okay.” She glanced down at her jeans and sweater. “Do I look okay?”

I leaned over the middle console and turned her face toward mine. “You look perfect.” I kissed her lips, then released her.

She looked pleased with my response, so I shut the car off, then walked around to her side to open the door. She placed her hand in mine as I helped her out of the car. Her phone chimed as we walked to the door.

“It’s Mariah letting me know they would be here in about twenty minutes or so.”

I rang the doorbell. “That’s cool.”

Tumy informed me that she and Mariah agreed that she should meet my parents before she and her husband came.

My father was the one who opened the door. “What’s up, Son?”

“What’s good, Pops?” I put my hand on Tumy’s back and led her inside.

The heat and whatever my mom cooked greeted us as soon as we entered. My stomach growled because I hadn’t eaten since breakfast, and I knew my mom cooked a feast. It had been a long time since I brought a woman home, and she was excited about it.

“Pops, this is Tumy. Baby, this is my dad, Marcus.”

“Hi, Mr. Marcus.”

“Hi, Tumy. Welcome.” My father shook her hand.

I helped her out of her coat, then the three of us walked to the living room. My mom came out a minute later.

“You are so pretty.” She gushed as she walked toward Tumy.

Tumy stood from her seat to greet my mother, and being who she was, my mom pulled her into her arms.

“Thank you, Mrs. Nelson.”

“Call me Janet. It is nice to meet you. I don’t know the last time my son brought anyone home, especially not this pretty.”

Tumy glanced my way and giggled.

“Was that necessary?” I asked my mom as I kissed her cheek.

“Very. The food should be done in a minute.”

“Do you need help?” Tumy asked, and I knew my mom loved that shit.

My ex never offered to help my mother with anything, and my mom reminded me every time she was around. Tumy was alright in her book.

“See, I like her,” my mom said as she looked at me. My father chuckled from his spot in his favorite chair. My mom turned back toward Tumy. “No, but you can come keep me company.” She grabbed Tumy’s hand and led her into the kitchen.

I sat down on the couch across from my dad. When I looked up at him, he had a big smile on his face.

“You look happy, Son.”

I peeked toward the kitchen, then back at my dad. “I am. In fact, . . .” I reached into my pocket and pulled out the box I’d been holding on to since we returned from the mountains. “I want to ask her to marry me.”

“This soon?”

“Yes. I know you and Mom never married, and it works for y’all, but Tumy wants to be married. I know she’s the one for me.”

My father leaned forward and looked at the box. I opened it so he could see the ring.

He let out a low whistle. “I know you, and I know you wouldn’t do it if you didn’t feel like it’s the right thing. I’m proud of you. I know your mother is going to lose her shit.” He chuckled.

“I know. I’m going to wait until after dinner. I want her best friend to be here.”

I tucked the box in my pocket, just as the doorbell rang. I got up to answer because I figured it was Tumy’s friend.

“What are you doing here?” Instead of Mariah, it was Marcel.

“You didn’t think I would miss a meet-the-family dinner, did you?” Marcel smirked as he stepped into the house.

Before I could close the door, a car pulled near the curb, and I figured it was Mariah.

I waited for her and her husband to get out.

“Hi, you must be Major,” Mariah said as she walked up the steps.

“I am. You must be Mariah and Keith.” I stretched my hand out to shake theirs, then led them inside.

I took their coats and hung them in the closet. Marcel and my pops were talking about something on TV when we walked into the living room.

I introduced Mariah and Keith to my dad and Marcel. A few seconds later, Tumy and my mom came from the kitchen.

“Hey, bestie.” Tumy greeted Mariah, then Keith.

“Hey, girl.”

Tumy introduced Mariah and Keith to my mother, then I introduced them to Marcel. After all the introductions were done, my mom informed us that dinner was ready, and we all filed into the dining room. I told them where the bathroom was so they could wash their hands.

Just as I expected, my mom went all out. The table was filled with chicken, a pineapple-glazed ham, mac and cheese, yams, collard greens, string beans, and cornbread.

“Damn, Momma. You would think it was Thanksgiving,” I teased as I pulled Tumy’s chair out.

“I wanted to make sure we had options.”

My father just shook his head. Once everyone was seated comfortably, my father blessed the food, then passed everything around. I made sure I got a good helping of ham because my momma played no games when it came to making her ham.

“Ms. Janet, this food is so good,” Tumy complimented after a few minutes passed.

Everyone was too busy stuffing their faces, so they nodded. Marcel was used to my mom’s cooking, but he nodded anyway.

“Thank you. I love to cook, as you can probably tell.” My mom laughed.

“My mom liked to cook as well.” Sadness washed over Tumy’s face for a second, but it quickly disappeared.

I hadn’t told my parents much about Tumy’s background because I wanted her to be able to tell her own story.

“She doesn’t anymore?” my mom questioned.

“No, ma’am. My father died of a heart attack, and my mom died not too long after from a broken heart. I have a brother, but we don’t have much of a relationship.”

I rubbed Tumy’s thigh under the table as I continued to eat.

“Aww, I’m sorry. Well, you have us now,” my mom told her.

“Thank you.”

The conversation switched to something more lighthearted. Tumy told my parents about her business, and Mariah and her husband told us about their careers. Everyone at the table had something going for themselves.

Of course, my mom asked Marcel about his love life, and he informed her of the chick he was dating, but he wasn’t ready to introduce her. Hopefully, things worked out for him. For him to even mention her meant he had some type of feelings for her.

After we finished eating, we all moved to the living room.

Somehow, we got on the subject of marriage, and it was the perfect segue to do what I had planned.

I was nervous because it was soon, but I was sure of my feelings for Tumy.

“May I have everyone’s attention?”

All conversation stopped as everyone gave me their undivided attention. My heart thumped in my chest, but I ignored it and pulled the box out of my pocket. I heard my mother dramatically gasp. I wanted to laugh, but I needed to hurry up while I had the courage.

I got down on one knee in front of Tumy, and instantly, moisture filled her eyes. I grabbed her hand and held it in mine.

“Tumy, I never thought when my cabin was double-booked that I would find someone like you. Not only were you someone nice to look at, but you also didn’t care that I had a gun in your face, and that changed everything for me. I knew right off the bat you weren’t going to take my shit.”

My mom gasped. “Major.”

I left that part out when I told them about meeting Tumy. Tumy giggled as tears fell from her eyes. I would definitely have to explain the story to my mother later.

“It didn’t matter that we got off to a rocky start.” I continued. “Those few days we spent together were enough for me to know that I love you. I know it hasn’t been that long, but my heart is in this, baby. Will you marry me, Tumy Reed?”

She nodded her head.

I slipped the ring onto her finger, then kissed her. I made it quick because I didn’t want to get too carried away in front of our people.

Everyone congratulated us, and the smile on Tumy’s face made my chest swell. I knew I made the right choice every time she looked at me. Even when she was on the other side of the room, every time our eyes connected, I knew she was my forever.
