Chapter Nineteen #3
Sinetar smirks at me and explains, “Sometimes, when a dragon has too much unspent fire, it comes out at… Inopportune times.”
“I did that?” I ask incredulously.
“It’s a good sign,” he says. His torso is bare, and I can’t help but admire his long, lean muscles. “The more ready you are, the easier it will be to get a fertilized egg on the first try.”
“Fertilized egg. You really know how to make me feel sexy,” I mutter under my breath.
“Maybe not sexy, but a promising sign nonetheless,” True says. It’s so clinical. So cold compared to the fire I just saw raging in his eyes when he growled he was going to fuck me if no one else had the balls to do it.
Behind the door, I hear water running.
“My washroom is now in flames,” I point out. “How is that a good sign?”
“Nothing to worry about,” True assures me.
“Pax is taking care of it,” Sinetar says again. “He’s your servant, after all. That’s his job.”
“He’s my guard,” I remind him with a glare.
“Guard, servant, whatever,” Sinetar says with a shrug. “What’s important is that he can put out fires. I have a feeling he might come in handy again before too long.”
His eyes travel lazily over my body, and my nipples harden instantly, that hot coal of longing burning brighter inside my core. My sex is swollen and throbbing with need.
“So, Sea Clan,” I say, trying to distract myself from the fact that I’m naked and being thoroughly eye-fucked by my much older professor. “You’re Sky Clan. True?”
I turn to my other guard, who’s face has returned to its stoic, watchful expression.
“Ice,” Sinetar answers for him.
Like Shynia. It makes me wonder if they’re somehow related. She did call him by name.
“And what am I?” I ask.
“You’re the queen,” Sinetar says simply.
“In theory, a dragon has the powers of either parent. For common dragons, both are customarily from the same clan, so it’s simple.
But a queen has lovers from every clan, and therefore, her hatchlings harness all powers, with the fertilizing mate’s powers being strongest. All dragons start with fire, so that tells us nothing except you were so hot you couldn’t handle it. ”
He smirks towards the washroom door. My face flames at the reminder.
“Thanks for the lesson,” I mumble, turning away to hide my face and stumbling toward my bureau. “But I think I’m just going to put on some clothes now.”
“Don’t hurry,” Sinetar drawls. I can still feel his eyes on me, can almost picture what he sees, my round ass bouncing with each step, the way he’s probably picturing bending me over my desk the way he did that professor…
Pax steps from the washroom, a grin on his face. “Good as new. Can’t help but think maybe I’m the one who should be getting you all worked up next time. We didn’t see that happening when we fooled around.”
“Maybe that’s because I get her hotter,” Sinetar drawls, casually leaning back against my desk. “You should be thankful I let you watch, youngling. Count that as a free lesson.”
“Okay, let’s not get all competitive,” I say as I grab a nightgown out of my closet. It’s the only item of clothing that I can put on without my ladies, and I throw it over my head and yank it down. “You’re all hot—too hot for your own good.”
“It doesn’t matter who can get her hotter,” True says gravely. “That should never have happened at all. It’s more difficult than we realized to restrain ourselves during your mating cycle. We’ll do better, my queen.”
“I hope not,” I say with a wink.
True’s serious expression remains, and when he shoots Pax a murderous glare, Pax steps up beside him.
“He’s right,” Pax says. “You are not meant for simple guards, or even a royal scholar. We are not worthy of a queen, and it was wrong of us to take advantage of your current needs.”
“My needs that lit the washroom on fire.”
He nods. “Until you learn to control your powers, we will be much more careful, for our safety and yours.”
“Because I could have burned down the palace?” I ask, rubbing my face so I won’t have to meet their eyes. “Or because half the dragons here are looking for an excuse to kill me?”
Master Sinetar laughs. “You can’t burn down this place. It’s ninety percent marble and what isn’t marble is inessential.”
I sit on the edge of my bed, noticing how he didn’t answer the part about people wanting to kill me. “I could have hurt one of you, though.” Now that I say it, I notice that True’s shirt is singed and burnt. “True? Did I burn you?”
“No.”
Pax scoots onto the bed beside me and wraps an arm around my shoulders. “We’re all fine,” he says, squeezing me against him. “It’s not safe for you, Nessie. Princess Shynia is looking for any excuse to replace you. You have to at least pretend to give the dragon court what they want.”
“This is all the more reason to find out what you’re capable of and train you to use your powers,” Sinetar says. “Besides, if they found out I fucked the virgin queen before her husband, it would start a war with the Sky Clan, and Shynia could make a strong case for your disposal.”
Great. Just what I need. My hormones to start a dragon war.
