Chapter 14

Chapter Fourteen

By the time Evan got to Albuquerque, he thought he might just lose his mind. Everything that could go wrong with this trip so far, had.

His flight had been delayed twice in Boston.

He’d gotten an email while he was laying over in Denver that he’d had to deal with a serious allegation about one of the players he represented.

The guy had gotten drunk and wrecked his car, and Evan was not gonna cancel this trip to go fucking deal with it in person, so he got his assistant on everything.

The days of sweeping something like that under the rug were over for Evan’s agency, but they still had to do some damage control and provide as much support as they could, making sure the guy got the appropriate authorities involved.

Then he’d gotten stuck in Denver for hours because of a mechanical issue with the plane.

It had lasted so long that the crew had gone on another plane, and they’d had to gather together a new crew to do the short hop to Albuquerque.

He almost got a fucking rental car and drove.

But the weather in Raton was bad, and he didn’t want to take a chance on driving through that.

The SunPort in Albuquerque was a welcome home. He loved that airport and even though it had grown a little bit recently, it was still small and easy to navigate, the people were nice, and, when he came out of the secure area Sam was waiting for him.

Evan met his cowboy halfway and gave him a huge hug. The kissing and stuff would wait for when they were in the truck, but he needed to hold Sam for a second and pound him on the back. Nobody would think they were more than just friends from that, he guessed. Not that it mattered. They were.

He didn’t want to take a chance on getting their asses kicked in the airport.

“Hey, guapo, I missed you.”

The words were simple, but it was absolutely one hundred percent what he needed to hear.

“Ditto. Thanks for coming to pick me up. I know it’s late, and—”

Sam winked at him. “No big deal. I got us a hotel room for tonight.”

“You did what?”

“I thought, what the hell? You and me, we could spend one night in a hotel and then have breakfast and drive home in the morning.”

That was his man. “I think it’s a great idea. How far is the hotel from here?”

“It’s just right here.” Sam started walking him towards the exit. “I figure you and me just need a bed, possibly a burger, and then you can come home.”

Home. He liked those words, no question. In fact, they kind of made him stupidly happy.

Sam looked so good, solid in his white button-down, his big belt buckle, his hat. Evan might have drooled a little bit.

“How’s Hillary?”

“Good, good. Big. I think that it’s really obvious now that she’s got a big ole baby bump.”

They got on the escalator and headed down so they could walk to the parking garage. “Did she decide to repaint the nursery pink?”

Sam shook his head. “Balloons, hot air balloons. Everything is hot air balloons, so all the colors, rainbows and rainbows, everything. It’s beautiful.”

Oh, someone was having a little bit of baby love himself.

“She’s been talking to Max’s mama a lot, and the baby shower is going to be a big thing.”

“Is she going to dress up and do Halloween?”

Sam shrugged. “She’s going to do something with her friends from school. It’s not anything big. I think she’s dressing up like a pumpkin.”

“Because it seems suitable.”

They shared a laugh as they got outside and ooh, it was crisp.

Sam reached over and brushed his fingers over the back of Evan’s hand, which made Evan’s curl up, the hairs on the back of his neck lifting. God, he loved it when Sam touched him. He was starved for it, in fact.

They put his suitcase in the back of Sam’s truck, and it was a hop skip and a jump to one of the airport hotels. They didn’t even have to leave the complex of airport roads to get there.

Sam had made a good choice with the Hyatt because they had a bar/restaurant that was open late and it served burgers, fries, and fruit cups. That was all he needed. With that, they got their food to go and headed into the room.

Sam sort of stared at him for a second, and the door closed behind them.

“What?”

“I’m just looking at you; you need to eat your food.”

That hadn’t been what he’d expected to hear. “Okay?”

“Seriously, because once we’re done eating, I’m gonna tear your ass up.”

He’d never heard more beautiful words in his entire life.

They didn’t touch each other—they sat at the table, one across from the other, and they ate. The air between them was like a field of electrical wires, sharp and tingly and wonderful.

By the time he was done with his last piece of pineapple, he was hard as a rock.

Sam put all the boxes away, so careful, set them aside, and sat down to take off his boots.

Evan followed along—shoes, socks, then he took off his shirt.

Sam set his watch aside and unbuttoned his cuffs. There wasn’t a single second that he didn’t feel as if Sam wasn’t aware of him.

There was no noise but their breathing, and the rustle of their clothes

Finally, they stood there bare naked. Sam erect, posing there hip-shot and proud, and it occurred to him no one but him would see this. This view was all his to drink up.

He stepped closer to investigate the series of near-black bruises dancing over his cowboy’s chest and down near his belly. “What the hell happened?”

“Got caught by a bull. Ain’t no big thing.”

Still. Ow. Sam was tough as any goalie on earth. And about as crazy.

“You make my mouth dry.”

Sam shot him a quick grin. “That’s gonna make sucking me really hard.”

Oh, damn. Sam was on fire. “Is it? I guess I can try.”

Sam reached out and reeled him in. “Kiss me first, then we’ll figure out who’s doing what?”

“I—I don’t suppose you thought of condoms? Slick?”

“You kidding? They’re in my little ditty bag.”

Evan had to beam. “My brilliant cowboy.”

That had Sam shaking his head. “I just know what I want.”

“I’m glad, because I want you, too.” He let his fingers rest on the cut and hollow of Sam’s hip, then slid his hand around one ass cheek so he could pull Sam close.

Their mouths met and instead of the storm he expected, it was slow and deep and lingering. Evan pushed his tongue into Sam’s mouth, loving the little hint of mustard there, the tiny bite of green chile.

Sam wrapped an arm up around his back, fingers sliding into his hair, which was getting a little long in the back, and holding him right there so they could keep kissing.

Sam rocked and swayed as if he were dancing, as if there was music playing in the man’s head that no one else could hear.

Evan sort of loved that. He felt like he was being invited in to a world of emotion and dance that he wasn’t used to.

Sam was just short enough that his cock slid against his inner thigh, nudging his balls and so often bumping his hip. He had a way easier time because he had that rippled belly, that eight-pack, to rub off on.

Not that that was what the endgame was, but for the current game, it was just fine.

“You make me dizzy, man. I just can’t…” Sam met his eyes, swallowing hard. “Please, I need to touch you all over, and if I don’t sit down, I’ll fall down.”

“I understand. Believe me, I understand.” Evan pulled the bed clothes back, and they climbed in and turned off all the lights.

It was easy to sink into the sheets, the pillows, and start again. Sam offered him soft, slow, drugging kisses that stole his breath and made his eyes cross. “You make me absolutely nuts.”

“I can think of worse things.” Sam winked at him. “I’ve missed you, guapo. It’s been a long few weeks. I missed your face, no?”

“I missed your everything, but I missed your face the most.” God, those dark eyes made him feel things he never had before.

Evan knew at some point they were going to have to talk about finding a way to be closer to each other, to not be on the damn road all the time apart. That could come. He was that serious.

Right now, it was about them getting reacquainted and ironing out all of these little parts of the relationship first.

Sam’s hands were callused, the palms, tough and ridged. He’d seen them at work— on reins, ropes, bull horns.

Evan had calluses himself, but his were on his thumb and middle finger from gripping the stick. Sam’s were fascinating because they were new to him, because they were different.

Because he loved how they felt dragging over his body.

Sam was not a fast lover. He took his time, lingering over every touch as if he had nothing but time and patience.

“Have you always been a patient guy?”

Sam chuckled softly. “No. No, I was actually the least patient person you’d ever meet. I learned fast, though; them bulls don’t care if you’re all patient or no. Bulls are going to take you and turn you inside out if you try to push them. You have to be knowing when to wait.”

One thumb rubbed over onto one of his nipples, dragging across it, and his lips parted on a gasp.

“You have to know when to move.”

The other hand danced down his belly, tugging at his chest hairs and his short hairs, and his toes curled.

“And then when to move fast.”

Suddenly, both hands were around his cock, pulling, surrounding him with rough, hard heat, pushing into the tip and backing off.

He wanted to scream, and he bit out. “Fuck! Sam.”

“That’s the idea, honey.” Sam chuckled, thumb pushing against his slit again, and all he could do was spread his legs and hump because Jesus, all of a sudden it was crawling up his spine, this terrible need he had for Sam.

“Fucking love how you touch me. Don’t stop, Sam. Love it. I need you so bad.”

“See, you hockey players, you do everything fast.”

That had him laughing as he slid a hand down over Sam’s hip and thigh. “True, we’re speedy guys.”

“Yep. Now me? I know when I need to slow down and savor something.” Sam leaned down and stole another kiss, one hot enough to light him up.

“You do know how to be a thorough detail kind of guy.”

“Mm-hmm.” Sam stroked and pulled and tugged until he thought he was going to scream, and then he got the condoms and lube out. “You gonna fuck me?”

“Fuck, yes.” He grabbed the lube when Sam handed it over. Evan would gladly fuck Sam anytime he wanted it.

“I’m ready, all you got to do is get me slick.” And he could feel those sturdy thighs spreading to let him in between.

“I like it when a man’s ready.” He slicked his fingers and then pressed them back behind Sam’s balls and stroked.

He wouldn’t hurt this man for anything.

Nothing made him happier than to see the expressions crossing over the strong face—the little gasp, the parted lips, the way Sam licked and bit his lips, the way his nostrils flared, and how he nodded when it was good. It suited him down to the bone.

Evan took his time. Sam hadn’t been in any hurry, and so neither was he.

It was so easy to give Sam exactly what he needed and then maybe some things that he didn’t know he needed after all.

He curled his fingers searching for that little spot, and when he found it, Sam’s shoulders actually lifted up off the pillows, and his eyes went wide.

“Motherfucker.”

He stroked it again, and then again, and then once more because he could.

“I’m gonna fucking explode if you don’t be careful.”

“We hockey players—” Evan leaned in, his lips close to Sam’s ear. “—aren’t good at being careful.”

Then he bit Sam’s earlobe and pressed again, hard this time, loving the way that Sam’s muscles clenched and rippled all around his fingers.

Sam made this noise that was a cross between a grunt and a sharp bark. “God damn it, Evan. I need you inside me.”

Oh hell, Sam had blasphemed, and he’d invoked Evan’s actual name. It must be time to get on with it.

He gently slid his fingers free before rolling a condom on and slicking himself up. He raised Sam’s hips and then pushed the head of his cock against Sam’s open hole. “I’m coming in now, baby.”

“So fucking ready.” Sam reached up to grab his upper arms when he pressed forward with his hips, holding on tight where Evan had propped himself up.

He stared down at Sam and, even in the low light, he could see how Sam stared at him, how his jaw clenched, as he sank deep inside Sam’s body.

They paused there, his forehead against Sam’s, both of them breathing the same air. Then he kissed Sam hard, needing more even as his hips began to move,

Evan pulled back, then pushed into the incredible pressure of Sam’s body around him, hot and tight and perfect.

Sam sighed against his mouth, nipping at his lower lip in the next second.

One leg came up around his hip, and Sam yanked them together, Evan’s cock slamming inside him.

He got a rhythm going then, and he could hear all the breathy curses Sam let out and all the wild noises following that, and he was glad they were in a hotel for this round, and not in the same house where Hillary might have to hear them.

The chances of them ever seeing anybody who was their neighbor at a hotel were incredibly remote.

He chuckled against Sam’s mouth at the thought of that, and Sam dug short nails into the back of his neck. “What are you laughing at, guapo? Fuck me.”

“I was just thinking how the neighbors were probably listening.” His voice sounded breathless and thready, and Evan was kind of losing his mind. His ass he was clenching, his balls, drawing up tight.

“Touch me, please.” Sam yanked at his arm, so he braced himself on one hand and used the other to reach down between them so he could jack Sam’s cock.

Sam cried out, his head falling back, tendons in his neck standing out as he swallowed hard. Evan slammed into him knowing he had to be pegging Sam’s gland with every thrust, the angle perfect for that.

“Gonna,” Sam grunted out, and he knew it because he could feel the wet tip of Sam’s cock, could feel the way Sam vibrated against him.

Sure enough, it wasn’t but seconds later that Sam spent all over his hand, the hot wetness of his seed sliding over Evan’s wrist.

That was all Evan needed to move harder and faster, thrusting a few more times before he was groaning and coming deep inside Sam’s body, filling the condom.

They landed together on the mattress, both of them a little sticky and gross, but unable to move.

Finally, he was able to pull free and dispose of the condom before flopping down next to Sam. “Give me a minute to be able to feel my legs, and then we can go take a shower.”

Sam hooted this sort of hilarious sound and nodded, putting one arm up over his head. “You know it, guapo. Right now, I can’t move my fingers.”

They laughed, and he turned his head just enough to kiss Sam’s cheek, lifting one shoulder up off the bed so he could reach. “Damn, it’s good to see you, baby.”

“Same here.”

They lay there for a while until it got cold and a little clammy, and then they got up and headed for the shower. Evan knew it had been a matter of months, not years or anything, but he was going to have to figure out how to be able to do this more often.

He wanted Sam in his life more than just a few days a year.
